GENERAL
Due to several abandoned meetings in the area, all race times were amended with the following rider change permitted to allow the rider to fulfill their engagement at Toowoomba.
Race 3. EPIC PLAYER – (a) M Philpot replaced (a) T Wheeler
Race 1: THE JACQUI O COOKBOOK CUP / SEARLE FAMILY KILCOY QTIS 3YO MDN – 1200M
WAR OF LOVE – Began awkwardly and hampered shortly after. Brushed the running rail and shifted out approaching the 800m.
MISS DAURIAN – Raced wide through the early stages before obtaining cover near the 700m. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey C Bayliss stated that he wasn’t overly disappointed with the performance as he believes MISS DAURIAN failed to handle the tight turning track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery and showing symptoms of the thumps.
KISS THE LASS – Raced wide in the early stages. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey J Stanley stated that KISS THE LASS was inclined to overrace throughout the event which placed him at a disadvantage.
CLAUDIUS – Slow to begin. Approaching the 800m was hampered when WAR OF LOVE brushed the running rail and shifted out.
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a Heavy 8.
Race 2: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY / KILCOY EXCHANGE HOTEL MDN HCP – 1500M
DOTNED – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages and made the crossing awkwardly.
BILLIRUBIN – Hung out rounding the first turn.
BOND GIRL – Underwent a post-race veterinary examination at the request of its rider which revealed no abnormalities.
CROSBY ROAD – Raced three wide for the majority. Forced wider leaving the 800m.
HAZ DE BEE = Bumped on several occasions with LEADBURN LION leaving the 1200m. Approaching the home turn was severely crowded and had to be restrained when racing in restricted room when MUM’S MY ANGEL shifted in and away from GOLDEN WHITT. Apprentice E MacPherson was reminded to ensure there is sufficient room when shifting ground. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey A Sewell could offer no other explanation apart from the consistent contact with LEADBURN LION throughout the event and the incident close to the home turn which influenced the performance. Trainer A Barling undertook to report back to the Stewards on the condition of HAZ DE BEE in the days subsequent. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
HOKE’S RUN– Steadied when commenced to overrace rounding the first turn. Forced wider when leaving the 800m
LEADBURN LION – Apprentice M Kennedy stated that her saddle shifted slightly placing her at a minor disadvantage throughout the event. Bumped with HAZ DE BEE for a short distance leaving the 1200m.
GOLDEN WHITT– Leaving the 800m had to be steadied when the pace slackened and as a result, shifted out onto HOKE’S RUN.
FROM THE GONG – Declared a late scratching on Stewards order at 8.25pm. Trainer D Knight was fined $200 under AR181(1)(b) for failing to scratch by the prescribed time.
Race 3: GAYLE'S 5OTH BIRTHDAY CUP C3 HCP – 1500M
High I Cue – Permission was granted for jockey B Appo to ride the gelding 1kg over its allotted weight. Jockey B Appo stated that the off-side winker became loose during the event.
EPIC PLAYER – Raced wide throughout.
MRS SHMICKELBERG– Crowded for several strides shortly after jumping.
RED MONKEY– Pulled hard in the early stages and approaching the first turn had to be steadied off the heels of SEA ECHO.
Race 4: THE GREAT NORTHERN KILCOY CANNONBALL LIGHTNING BM65 HCP – 800M
EARLY PLEA – Apprentice J McGrath reported that her mount was inclined to hang in during the event.
Race 5: CABOOLTURE SPORTS CLUB GROUP C4 HCP – 1200M
OCEAN WAVES (NZ) – After beginning only fairly was restrained to a position closer to the fence. Pulled hard in the early stages and approaching the 800m turn commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of HARRY’S ME BOY. When questioned regarding tactics rounding the home turn, apprentice J Molloy stated that upon straightening his mount was travelling well and rather than alter course to the inside of MR STORM (NZ), he elected to allow his mount to lay out to improve to the outside of that runner in a effort to keep his momentum. He added that when doing so, MR STORM(NZ) laid out and SCARE CAMPAIGN which was to his outside shifted in marginally and disappointed him for a run. Stewards advised apprentice Molloy that it may have been more beneficial for OCEAN WAVES (NZ) to attempt a run to the inside of MR STORM (NZ), however when considering the explanation provided and bearing in mind the specifics of the Kilcoy track, accepted the explanation of apprentice Molloy.
VALAR DOHAERIS – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority. Near the 1000m when slightly overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of SCARE CAMPAIGN (C Small) which shifted in marginally. Jockey C Small was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
HARRY’S ME BOY – Began awkwardly.
PARLOUR – Underwent a post-race veterinary examination at the request of its trainer which revealed a laceration to the off hind.
SCARE CAMPAIGN – Bumped on the hindquarters by OCEAN WAVES (NZ) shortly after straightening.
Race 6: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS KILCOY CHRISTMAS CUP BM58 HCP – 1200M
DEVILLAIN – Reared on jumping and raced wide throughout.
POETIC CHOICE – Forced wider at the 800m turn when DRATINI overraced and shifted out.
AIRWING – Leaving the 800m when racing in restricted room had to be restrained when KENTFORD (C Meehan) shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey C Meehan was reprimanded under AR131(a).
DRATINI – Approaching the 1000m commenced to overrace and shifted out off the heels of AIRWING and continued to overrace for some distance after.
MOUNT PADRAO – Raced wide throughout.
CYCLONE DIVA – Raced wide in the middle stages and was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.
