Gazzman – Hampered on jumping away. Raced wide throughout the event. Rider reported that his mount raced greenly and made the home turn awkwardly. He added that his breastplate broke during the event.

Approaching the 50m was disappointed for a narrow run between LIFE’SAGIFT and OMBRE VOLANTE, which shifted in under pressure. Shortly thereafter was obliged to shift in to improve into clear running. Jockey B Stewart, rider of OMBRE VOLANTE, was reminded of his obligation to stop and straighten his mounts when they shift ground in future.

Race 2: KILCOY GIFT AUSTRALIA DAY SPRINTS RUNNING IN JUNE 2022 Maiden Handicap 1900 metres

Spooke – Overraced throughout the event and commenced to weaken passing the 800m. Rider reported that in his opinion the gelding may have resented the tongue tie. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer G. Lane was advised that SPOOKE would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to accepting for a future race start.

Oconee (NZ) – Stewards accepted the reasons for the late arrival of OCONEE (NZ) on course. Slow to begin. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 800m after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of the weakening SPOOKE. Approaching the 400m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of RUNARD REDNUT, which shifted in when insufficiently clear.

Infinite Joy – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin.

Blazing Fairy – Slow to begin.

Force Me (NZ) – Stewards permitted the mare to race without a tongue tie as a result of the mare becoming fractious when attempts were made to affix the gear.

Haz De Bee – Passing the 400m was momentarily inconvenienced when racing in restricted room to the inside of OCONEE (NZ), which was carried in by RUNARD REDNUT, which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice M. Sava, rider of RUNARD REDNUT, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.

Somebody Stop Me (NZ) – Slow to begin. When questioned in relation to tactics adopted in the early stages, Apprentice I. Teh stated that she was instructed to settle at the rear of the field, but shortly after jumping was mindful of the racing mannerisms of WAIKATO and therefore she was reluctant to position herself closer to that horse which resulted in her losing touch with the field. She added in hindsight she should have made a greater effort to place her mount under pressure to maintain contact at the rear of the field. Stewards agreed with Apprentice Teh that she had erred in not riding with vigour in the early stages and reminded her of her obligations to ride her mounts in a manner that does not invite question.

Race 5: KILCOY DIGGERS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1900 metres

Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey S. Collett, rider of 3rd placegetter HAYATE, to view the stewards patrol footage to ascertain if she had grounds to lodge an objection. After declining to do so, correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers.

Star Centre – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted in today’s event, Apprentice Savva stated that after being slow out of the barriers and mindful of the large weight STAR CENTRE was carrying, she felt she would have had to exert to much energy and cover extra ground if she attempted to position the gelding further forward in the field. She added that her mount travelled well throughout the event but commenced to weaken when placed under pressure in the straight. Trainer K. Kemp advised stewards that he felt the gelding is better suited when able to race in a forward position and attributed the disappointing performance to being slow into stride and having to race in a rearward position. He further added that he would freshen the gelding and may experiment with a change of gear prior to racing again in an effort to improve the starting manners of STAR CENTRE. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

Buddy's Tale – Carried wider on the track passing the 1400m and raced wide for the remainder of the event as a result.

Starbuster – Jumped away awkwardly. Carried wider on the track passing the 1400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had bled from both nostrils postrace on the first occasions. Trainer Mr Gore was advised that subject to the provisions of AR79(4), STARBUSTER will not be permitted be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of 2 months and also is not permitted to start in any race for a period of 3 months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward.

Passing the 200m had to be severely checked to avoid the heels of RED DRESS, who was carried in by TRIP THE LIGHT, which attempted to improve into a position where there was insufficient room between RED DRESS and SHE’S SO VAIN. Apprentice Z. Lloyd, rider of TRIP THE LIGHT, was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for attempting a run where in the opinion of stewards there was insufficient room to do so. In determining penalty, stewards took into account the racing mannerisms of SOPHIE’S LASS which hung out rounding the home turn and SHE’S SO VAIN which shifted in marginally both of which were contributing factors to this incident.

Hedonie – Laid out when placed under pressure in the straight.

Shotgun Socks – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn. Displaced the near side winker during the event.

Boom Ranga – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Raced in restricted room for a number of strides passing the 800m.

Zou Zouamore – Upon arrival at the barriers underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the request of its rider and was passed fit to start. Stewards questioned Trainer K. Kemp regarding the performance of the filly. Mr Kemp could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance other than the filly was stepping up in grade from a maiden win last start in which it was able to lead, whereas today the filly was obliged to race in a rearward position. Mr Kemp added that he would report back on the condition of the filly in the subsequent days with the likelihood that ZOU ZOUAMORE would probably be spelled.
