SMOOTH FLIGHT – Upon arrival at the barriers, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Over-raced in the early stages. Laid in rounding the home turn and for the remainder of the home straight. Obliged to shift out rounding the home turn to obtain clear running. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, rider L. Tarrant advised that his instructions were to be closer to the lead, however his mount was outpaced in the early stages and for this reason he elected to obtain cover. He further stated that his mount travelled well throughout and approaching the home turn had elected to ride for luck, until upon entering the home straight when held up behind DEVINE RENDEVOUS, he then elected to shift out to obtain clear running. Stewards, having considered the matter, felt that rider L. Tarrant had made an error in judgement in not electing to take a run to the outside of runners near the home turn at an earlier stage. However, when considering the evidence and the gelding’s tendency to lay in throughout the event, Stewards determined rider L. Tarrant’s error in judgement was not culpable under the rules of racing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

Wheeler further added that the filly possibly didn’t handle the tight turning track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Stewards will follow up with the stable.

MIGRATORY – Near the 700m, improved onto the heels of BERNICE’S SPIRIT and was steadied and obliged to shift wider.
