GENERAL: Race 2 – Stewards accepted trainer Mr C Prow’s explanation for the booking of jockey J Babarovich, who was already engaged on another runner, and the late replacement rider of K Aho for CHANDELIER LASS.
RACE 1: VICE PRESIDENT Class B Handicap 1200M
1st – Spurred Up 2nd – Flirting Dragon 3rd – Hughie and Me 4th - Sweeney
The start was delayed when COWARDOFTHECOUNTY proved difficult to load.
SPURRED UP – raced wide in the early stages.
DEVIOUS MAN – raced wide rounding the home turn and in the home straight.
VANGUARD – performed poorly and was post-race vetted. The vet reported the gelding to be mildly dehydrated. When questioned, trainer Mr G Rafter advised that the horse had shown signs of scouring on race morning but on arrival at the track he was happy with its condition. As stewards were not advised of this information until after the race, Mr Rafter was reprimanded for not notifying stewards prior to the race of any condition which may affect the horse’s race performance.
RACE 2: ANDERSON & HARRIS BOOKMAKERS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1100M
1st – Vice President 2nd – Me Myself and I 3rd – Malibu Thief 4th – Chandelier Lass
BUNDABURRA – On jumping away was hampered slightly between VICE PRESIDENT and ME MYSELF AND I, which jumped outwards and then raced wide in the middle stages.
VICE PRESIDENT – raced wide in the middle stages.
RACE 3: INVERGARRY EQUINE CENTRE OPEN HANDICAP 1100M
1st – Reigning To Win 2nd – Holey Gadoley 3rd – Joe Blow 4th – Foreclosure
STANDOVER – was declared a late scratching at the barrier at 3.00pm when the jockey became ill. Jockey J Babarovich was examined by ambulance personnel who recommended he not continue to ride. On this advice he was stood down from riding for the remainder of the day and advised to get a medical clearance prior to riding again. All bets on STANDOVER prior to 3.00pm were to be refunded in full and deductions were:

27 cents for the place for first # 4
27 cents for the place for second # 3
FORECLOSURE – blundered on jumping away and lost some ground.
RACE 4: MARLIN PTY LTD CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1000M
1st – Count Blevic 2nd – Rickshawtoraffles 3rd – Forced Salute 4th – Another Shade
AGENT OF MERCY – late scratching at 3.15pm due to no rider being available.
The start of this race was delayed while a delegation of stewards, jockeys and trainers assessed the track after a shower of rain. Upon doing so, all parties were happy to proceed.
RICKSHAWTORAFFLES – was hampered shortly after the start for a short distance when racing in restricted room between ANOTHER SHADE and NATURAL MIST.
COUNT BLEVIC – wanted to lay in in the early stages approaching the first turn. Hung in under pressure, inconveniencing rider for a short distance in the run to the finish post.
Correct weight was delayed to allow the rider of the fifth placegetter, D Rewald, to view the photo finish image for fourth. After doing so, jockey Rewald was satisfied with the judge’s decision and therefore stewards declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored by the judge.
RACE 5: ARTHUR MOODY MEMORIAL CLASS 6 PLATE 1000M
1st – Last Pardee 2nd – Kev’s Destiny 3rd – Rhythm Nation 4th – Conquistador
HEART THROB – was a late scratching at 3.15pm due to no rider being available.
DOMINANT PLAY – was slow to jump.
KEV’S DESTINY – began awkwardly and made contact with LEGAL STAR.
LEGAL STAR – was reluctant to hold a position in the early stages of the race. When questioned, jockey Ms K Aho stated that the horse was resenting the dust and the kickback. When also questioned, trainer Mr W Irwin stated that the only explanation he could put forward was that the horse had not had a start for four months and may have been slightly underdone going into today’s race. Stewards noted both explanations.
