GENERAL
As Jockey D Evans was unable to attend today’s meeting due to transport difficulties and there was a shortage of jockeys available, changes were made as per the Stewards Raceday Summary.
The following horses were declared late scratching’s by Stewards due to no riders being available at the meeting:
Race 2: WAYFARER’S WAY, TAHKIAN BUBBLES.
Race 4: NASSAU COUNTY, ISHOTTHEDEPUTY, ARMSTRONG BAY, FINAL MISSION.
Race 5: OCEAN EMPEROR
Stewards accepted all reasons given by trainers for the late notification of riders at today’s meeting.
Race 1: WELLSHOT HOTEL CLASS B HANDICAP 1000 Metres
CALL OUT – Slow into stride. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Jockey J Rudd reported that after beginning well, CALL OUT blundered shortly after the start and then raced ungenerously in the early stages of the event when resenting the kickback from todays racing surface. Trainer H Forster was advised that a warning would be placed against the racing manners of the gelding.
NOVAYA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 2: COMMERCIAL HOTEL QTIS CLASS 3 PLATE 3-Y-O & Up 1000 Metres
DIRTY MERCHANT – Raced wide throughout the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
LASTING PROMISE – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
ALL VALOUR – Slow to begin. Jockey N Morton reported that the gelding was inclined to lay in for the majority of the event.
DAWN EMBERS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. When asked to comment on the gelding’s performance, Jockey E Bell reported that after beginning awkwardly, DAWN EMBERS was inclined to race ungenerously in the early stages of the event and failed to respond to her riding, adding that in her opinion the gelding proved to be disappointing. A post-race Veterinary inspection revealed no significant findings.
WAYFARER'S WAY – Declared to be a late scratching at 8.10am when there was no rider available at the meeting to ride the gelding.
SALT LAKE BETTY – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.
TAHKIAN BUBBLES – Declared to be a late scratching at 10.07am when there was no rider available at the meeting to ride the mare.
Race 3: LONGREACH RSL MAIDEN PLATE 2-Y-O & Up 1200 Metres
ANXO – Shifted out under pressure passing the 50m before being straightened by its rider.
MISHANI OUTLAW – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
NAORO – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
PENSIERO – Raced wide throughout the event. Jockey E Bell reported that after beginning well, PENSIERO was caught wide in running and as a result the mare was unable to respond to her riding when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race Veterinary inspection of the mare revealed no significant findings.
SALTCLAY – Inclined to lay out under pressure over the final 100m.
SIMPLY SMASHING – Shifted wider passing the 1100m. Raced wide throughout the event.
Race 4: BIRDCAGE HOTEL / LONGREACH TAVERN BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
The start of this race was delayed when the rider of YES LARRY was dislodged on route to the barriers and the gelding was required to be captured and returned to the mounting yard.
NASSAU COUNTY – Declared to be a late scratching at 10.07am when there was no rider available at the meeting to ride the gelding.
ISHOTTHEDEPUTY – Declared to be a late scratching at 10.07am when there was no rider available at the meeting to ride the gelding.
PARUES – Passing the 1100m, bucked and shifted out abruptly, dislodging Jockey A Bakos. Jockey Bakos was treated by oncourse QAS officers before being transferred to Longreach hospital for further treatment. A post-race Veterinary inspection of the gelding revealed minor lacerations to the off-hind leg. After reviewing the racing history of PARUES, Stewards have advised Trainer H Forster that the gelding would be required to complete two Official trials to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again.
ALL TOO LUCKY – Shifted out abruptly approaching the 1000m to avoid PARUES which was bucking and shifting out. Laid in from the 200m to the 100m.
YA LOVE HER – Slow to begin. Jolted sharply and shifted in abruptly to avoid the heels of PARUES which was bucking and shifting out, resulting in Jockey N Morton being dislodged. Jockey Morton was treated by oncourse QAS officers before being transferred to Longreach hospital for further treatment. A post-race Veterinary inspection of the gelding revealed no significant findings.
YES LARRY – Jockey R Faehr was harmlessly dislodged on route to the barriers when his stirrup leather broke. YES LARRY was declared a late scratching by Stewards at 3.29pm after dislodging its rider and galloping a significant distance before being captured and returned to the mounting yard by the clerk of the course, delaying the start.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets placed on YES LARRY be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st – ALL TOO LUCKY - 55c win, 27c place
2ND – WANT TO BE PROUD - 27c place
3rd – VALIANT JOAN - 27c place
ARMSTRONG BAY – Declared to be a late scratching at 10.07am when there was no rider available at the meeting to ride the gelding.
FINAL MISSION – Declared to be a late scratching at 10.07am when there was no rider available at the meeting to ride the mare.
WANT TO BE PROUD – Shifted out passing the 150m.
INVADER'S GIRL – Shifted out abruptly passing the 1100m to avoid PARUES which was bucking and shifting out.
VALIANT JOAN – Became fractious and dislodged Jockey J Rudd on route to the barriers. Jockey Rudd was examined by oncourse QAS Officers and passed suitable to ride the mare in the event. Trainer Henry Forster was advised that VALIANT JOAN would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again. A post-race Veterinary inspection of the mare revealed no significant findings.
Race 5: BUNDABERG RUM PUBLICAN'S CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1200 Metres
The start of this race was delayed waiting for an ambulance to arrive on course after transporting injured jockeys to hospital from the previous race.
OCEAN EMPEROR – Declared to be a late scratching when there was no rider available at the meeting to replace Jockey A Bakos after being injured in the previous race.
HERE HE LOOMS – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
COLD ONE – Shifted in passing the 300m to obtain clear running.
HIGHGROUND – Slow to begin.
DIVINE COURAGE – Raced wide in the early stages of the event.
GREGARIOUS – Began awkwardly.
