GENERAL
 
All horses that competed at the Emerald race meeting, Tuesday 22/09/2026 underwent a pre-race veterinary examination prior to starting today and were cleared to start.
 
As STRAYA PRIDE gained a start in Race 6 as an emergency and jockey P Hamblin was dually engaged in the race, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Stewards permitted the following overweights at today’s meeting:
Race 4: Jockey N Fazackerley +0.5kg = 56.5kg.
Race 7: Jockey N Fazackerley +0.5kg = 56.5kg.
 
Race 1 - THYNNE MACARTNEY MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M

BEL SONG – Began awkwardly. Hampered immediately after the start when SIMPLY SMASHING was carried inwards by FYANSFORD FLYER. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CORONATION DAY – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

FYANSFORD FLYER – Jumped inwards at the start and checked SIMPLY SMASHING, which was carried inwards and hampered BEL SONG

GRAPHIEN – Began awkwardly.

SIMPLY SMASHING – Checked immediately after the start when FYANSFORD FLYER jumped inwards.

MISS ANCHOR – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. Raced wide throughout. Weakened over the final 300m and was beaten 20 lengths at the finish. Trainer H Forster was advised that a warning has been placed against the performance record of the filly.


Race 2 - MARIST COLLEGE ASHGROVE / WQ HEALTH QTIS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000 M
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey N Fazackerley to view the replays as to whether his mount was denied a fair start by being held by a barrier attendant as the start was affected. After viewing the available replays, jockey Fazackeley declined to proceed as he was satisfied that the horses’ own manners resulted in HIGHGROUND being slow to begin and correct weight was declared.
 
BETTA THAN PRESLEY – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice G Semmens advised that she attributed the slightly disappointing performance of her mount to the gelding failing to muster early speed.

HIGHGROUND – Fractious in the barriers. Leapt in the air at the start, began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. Raced wide throughout. Shifted in under pressure passing the 200m.

SALT LAKE BETTY – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result.

IMMINENT BOOM – Began awkwardly.

PENROD – Raced ungenerously in the early stages when being restrained.


Race 3 - ARDROSSAN ANGUS / BSN TRADING CLASS 3 PLATE 1000 M
 
The start of this event was delayed slightly due to Riccarton race 8 running significantly behind schedule.
 
Correct weight was delayed to consider an application from the connections for NOBLE INTENT to be declared a non-starter on the basis of being denied a fair start. Upon review of the available replays, it was established that NOBLE INTENT was very fractious in the barriers and when the start was affected the gelding dropped its head and unbalanced the rider, who was ultimately dislodged. Stewards were satisfied that the manners of NOBLE INTENT was the sole reason for the horse dislodging the rider and therefore the gelding was deemed to have been afforded an opportunity to a fair start. Correct weight was subsequently given on the judge’s numbers.
 
NOBLE INTENT – Fractious in the barriers. As the field was released from the barriers, became extremely fractious, resulting in jockey C Bryen becoming unbalanced and being dislodged. Trainer T Schofield was advised that the gelding has been stood down from racing until the completion of a satisfactory trial or jump out.

ROYALIFY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

GALATH (NZ) – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

KENSINGTON'S JEWEL (NZ) – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to having not started in a race for an extended period and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure kin the home straight.

SALTCLAY – Began awkwardly.

TELL US TOLL – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride as a result.


Race 4 - SIMSTOCK RURAL OPEN HANDICAP 1200 M
 
THE HANGER CAT – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
SCORCHED LAND – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. Bumped with PENINSULA soon after the start. Crowded soon after the start when INQUISITVE LEGEND was carried inwards. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
PENINSULA – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. Bumped with SCORCHED LAND at the start.
 
I AM GOOD AT THIS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to having not started in a race for an extended period and was cleared to start.

I'M ZAC – Began awkwardly, shifted inwards and bumped with INQUISITIVE LEGEND. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SINGLE HONOR – Shifted outwards shortly after the start. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight and had to be corrected by the rider approaching the 100m.

INQUISITIVE LEGEND – Began awkwardly and was bumped inwards by I’M ZAC and as a result shifted inwards and crowded SCORCHED LAND. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.


Race 5 - GREALY / SAVAGE / REED MEMORIAL QTIS CLASS 5 PLATE1300 M
 
COLD ONE – Raced wide throughout. Momentarily raced in restricted room rounding the turn near the 700m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

DEFERENTIAL – Raced wide throughout.

REGAL JUDGEMENT – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. Impeded soon after the start when bumped by YOU KAY SQUEEZE. Momentarily raced in restricted room rounding the turn near the 700m. Passing the 100m, shifted wider to maintain clear racing room.

SCHMOOZER – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

DESERT STAR – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages.

FLOP TURN RIVER – Began awkwardly.

SHUT IT DOWN – Jumped outwards at the start.

YES LARRY – Began awkwardly.
 
YOU KAY SQUEEZE – Began awkwardly, jumped inwards and bumped with REGAL JUDGEMENT resulting in that runner being hampered. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.


Race 6 - GDL BLACKALL / BALLARD HAULAGE BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP1200 M
 
TAHKIAN BUBBLES – Over raced in the early stages. Impeded for a few strides near the 200m when FORGETABOUTIT shifted outwards when being corrected by its rider. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Passing the 80m, was obliged to shift in to maintain clear running when OUTBACK STEP shifted in and FORGETABOUTIT shifted outwards. Robbie Faehr (OUTBACK STEP) and apprentice Gabrielle Semmens (FORGETABOUTIT) were reminded of their obligations to ensure their mounts maintain a straight course.

OUTBACK STEP – Impeded at the start when FORGETABOUTIT shifted outwards. Shifted in under pressure over the final 100m.

RISE AND RESIST – Began awkwardly.
 
ARMSTRONG BAY – Slow to begin.
 
HOLY HOLY HOLY – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin.
 
MAYBE – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

FORGETABOUTIT – Shifted out at the start and impeded OUTBACK STEP. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When being corrected by the rider near the 200m, shifted outwards and impeded the progress of TAHKIAN BUBBLES for a few strides. Apprentice G Semmens was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding and advised to ensure that when she is correcting her mounts, that she does so in a manner that does not impede other runners. Inclined to shift out under pressure over the final 80m.
 
RUN FREDA RUN – Shifted outwards abruptly at the start and was slow to begin. A warning has been placed against the starting manners of the mare. Trailed the field in the early and middle stages. Jockey J Doyle reported on return to scale that her mount made abnormal respiratory noises during the run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer P O’Toole advised that the mare will likely now be spelled.

FREDDIE EDDIE – Began awkwardly.

STRAYA PRIDE – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.


Race 7 - HOMESTEAD AGRIBUSINESS LONGREACH CUP / COUNTRY CUPS CHALLENGE QUALIFIER OPEN HANDICAP1600 M

GREEN SHADOWS – Slow into stride. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

ECHO POINT – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result.

VICTORY BAY (NZ) – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result.

LITTLE COINTREAU (NZ) – Apprentice N Olzard reported that her mount was inclined to lay in for the majority of the event and in her view the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation.
 
JUNE – Over raced in the middle stages. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SPANISH BLAZE (IRE) – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

BADGE – Raced wide throughout.

BOLD SMUGGLER – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight when commencing to give ground.
 
FINAL MISSION – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
