STEWARDS REPORT

LAURA AMATEUR TURF CLUB

SATURDAY 28 JUNE 2025

WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 3 RAIL – TRUE

OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – S. Copelin.
Stewards – P. Gillard, A. Holzhauser.

GENERAL

Race 1: As the gelding BALLROOM BOSS had not raced for a period of 12+ months, after satisfactorily completing AR 88B protocols, and also underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to race.

Race 2: As the geldings BEAN WARRIOR and SIR ROLAND had not raced for an extended period (6+ Months), they also underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and were both cleared to race.

Prior to the commencement of the race meeting, all riders competing were subject to a random breath test and all cleared to fulfil their engagements.

Race 1: PATRON BILL WARE Maiden Plate – 1000 Metres.

BALLROOM BOSS – Delayed the start after proving difficult to load. Trainer R. MOLLER was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

LICHFIELD ANGEL – Raced ungenerously leaving the 600 metres and shifted wider on the track. Momentarily laid in under pressure at the 100 metres until corrected by the rider.

Race 2: LAURA BRACELET RATINGS BAND 0 – 50 Handicap – 1000 Metres.

REEMYA (NZ) – Bounded on jumping and lost ground.

LASER BEAM – Slow into stride.

LOOK AT ROSA – Slow into stride. Raced three wide for the majority of the race.

Race 3: PIONEER CUP BENCHMARK 60 Handicap – 1200 Metres.

IMELDA MAYHEM (NZ) – Slow into stride.

NO LOVE LOST – Moved out under riding leaving the 50 metres tightening the running of LUCKY LENI.

LUCKY LENI – Checked leaving the 50 metres.

STRATEGIST – Moved in marginally leaving 50 metres crowding LUCKY LENI which was forced outwards.

LUCKY LENI – Protest lodged by trainer (Scott Cooper) on behalf of the third placed horse LUCKY LENI ridden by App. Ms. S. Willis against the second placed horse NO LOVE LOST ridden by Jockey C. Meehan alleging interference within the last 50 metres of the race. After hearing all evidence and viewing of available footage, it was established that leaving the 50 metres NO LOVE LOST shifted out under hard riding when not fully clear resulting in LUCKY LENI being checked. It was also noted STRATEGIST racing to its outside shifted in marginally. Given where this incident took place and the close proximity of the winning post along with a margin of 1-1/4 lengths stewards dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the judges’ numbers. Subsequently Jockey C. Meehan pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 131(a) in that leaving the 50 metres whilst under riding he permitted NO LOVE LOST to shift out and take the running of LUCKY LENI which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey Meehan’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven days from midnight 6 July 2025 to commence at the completion of a current suspension to commence midnight 30 July 2025 to midnight 13 July 2025. Jockey C. Meehan was advised of his right of appeal.

Race 4: LAURA 10,000 QTIS BENCHMARK 50 Handicap – 1200 Metres.

THE HOME TEAM – Tightened between runners on jumping and lost ground.

NAPOLEON STRIKE – Raced in restricted room near the 1000 metres and was steadied. Shifted wider on the home turn. Momentarily held up early into the home straight.

PURPOSE ‘N’ VISION – Raced wide in the middle stages.

SUPERSTITIONS – Shifted wider rounding the home turn.

Race 5: LAURA CUP BENCHMARK 70 Handicap – 1450 Metres.

VINCENZO – Began awkwardly and shifted in on jumping causing App. T Wheeler to hit his right knee on the barriers. Raced up three wide from the 650 metres until the home straight. Attended to by QAS and injury sustained to right knee and App. Jockey T WHEELER was advised a medical clearance was required prior to next race ride.

PREMIUM STAR – Made the turn out of the straight on the first occasion awkwardly and lost ground.
