RACE 1: SHANE KNUTH/ROC'S STOCKFEED/WATTO'S EARTHMOVING Maiden Plate 1350M
PILLAGER – Delayed the start when proved difficult to load.
FRENCH DRAGON – Slow to begin.
NOT A WORRY (NZ) – Slow to begin.
GRIGIA – Raced keenly in the early stages.
RACE 2: CMC MUSTERING/SMITH BROTHERS TRANSPORT GUNNAWARRA SHIELD CLASS B Handicap 1350M
CHATEAU VON TESS – Slow to begin. Jockey N. Thomas reported on scale he felt his mount jarred up in the run. A post-race veterinary examination established that the filly was sore in both front hooves. Co-Trainer Peter Rowe advised stewards that the filly was now to be sent for a spell, however, he was also advised a veterinary certificate of soundness would be required prior to the horse racing or trialing again.
FLORAL LEGEND – Threw its head in the air on jumping and then raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages of the race.
READY AND BETTA – Over-raced in the early stages of the race. When questioned in regard to its performance today, which was below market expectations, Jockey L Morrison advised stewards the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages, however, was disappointing over the concluding stages. Ms. Morrison further stated she was of the opinion the gelding may have come to the end of its current preparation. Trainers’ representative, Mr. J. Manzelmann advised stewards it was the stables intention READY AND BETTA would now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.
RACE 3: DUFFY'S FURNITURE COURT BEDS R US ATHERTON/STOCKLICK TRADING BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 1000M
PROPERLEIGH – Stewards accepted the explanation by trainer Scott Seymour for the late jockey declaration.
LECONFIELD – Slow to begin.
MISS MOLOKAI – Slow to begin.
CHARM TELLER – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
LORD VALEN – Shifted in at the start bumping with BLONDIE’S SECRET. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
BLONDIE’S SECRET – Shifted out at the start bumping with LORD VALEN and then commenced to over-race for some distance and had to be restrained off heels near the 800 metres.
XINGXING – Jockey I. Fry reported on scale the gelding had a tendency to lay out from the 600 metres and did not appreciate the kickback.
RACE 4: SILVERBACK UTE TRAYS/HONEYCOMBES SALES & SERVICE QTIS BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1200M
DEAL AN ACE – Shifted out at the start bumping with LA MANO.
LA MANO – Shifted in on jumping bumping with DEAL AN ACE. Jockey C Jokic reported on scale the mare was reluctant to stretch out and, in her opinion, did not appreciate today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.
BELLZEN – Slow into stride.
ELLIE’S DREAM – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 800 metres.
SUPERSTITIONS – Raced wide in the early stages.
BRAVE INTENT – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
RACE 5: TROY CUMMINGS LOCKSMITH/CENTRAL TYRE FNQ MM/ROB KOCH MEM/FNQ U&C STAYERS BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1680 M
The start of this race was delayed when the on-course QAS Officers were required to treat a member of the public who required medical attention.
ECLIPSION – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Slow into stride. Raced wide with cover in the early and middle stages of the race. Brushed for a short distance approaching the 400 metres by REMLAP KAVA which shifted out to obtain clear running.
FLOURISH – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start.
THIRD MASTER – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. When asked to explain the tactics adopted in the race, apprentice Jockey S. Pointon advised stewards that the horse had taken charge of her in the early and middle stages and it was not her intention to lead by such a margin. Trainer A. Malliff was in agreeance with apprentice Pointon and further added that due to early travel the day prior to race-day his usual training methods had been interrupted and as a result THIRD MASTER raced fresh. Stewards noted their explanations.
REMLAP KAVA – Slow to begin. Shifted out to obtain clear running approaching the 400 metres brushing ECLIPSION for a short distance. Put in an awkward stride near the 50 metres.
BRAND NEW – Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the race.
