GENERAL:
Stewards carried out inspections of the stables of local trainers who had runners engaged at today's meeting. No breaches of the rules were detected.
RACE 1: Champion C Stud Equestrians Class 3 Plate - 1560 metres
1st - POUSSIN 2nd - MAKOSSA 3rd - SUPREME ROCKET 4th - STRIKE ZONE
The start was delayed when the Clerk of the Course was late arriving on course, due to transport difficulties.
PACEMAKER - Was slow to begin.
STRIKE ZONE - Was slow to begin.
NINE TIMES - Pulled hard in the early and middle stages and refused to settle.
POUSSIN - Was inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight.
Following the running of this race the track rating was downgraded to Good 4 retrospectively.
RACE 2: NE Food Maiden Handicap - 1050 metres
1st - TESTATIME 2nd - ON THE BID 3rd - THE TEENY HASS 4th - LYKELY
LISTEN TRIST - The start was delayed when the filly had to be re-saddled.
MOUNTAIN LANE - Was standing awkwardly in the barriers, began awkwardly and lost ground, then raced greenly and wide throughout.
THE TEENY HASS - Shifted in at the start and bumped another runner. Momentarily held up for clear running on the home turn.
RED HOT FLASH - Crowded for room at the start.
LYKELY - Rider reported that his mount was inclined to lay out throughout the event.
IN RECOVERY - Rider accidentally droped her whip passing the 200 metres.
PUMPED UP KICKS - On returning to scale the rider reported that his saddle slipped over the concluding stages, which placed him at a disadvantage in riding his mount out to the finish.
RACE 3: Opteon Central & Southern BenchMark 70 Handicap - 1050 metres
1st - SURAH SURAH 2nd - SAMMY JUNIOR 3rd - IRON JACKET 4th - GEARSTICK
GEARSTICK - Slipped behind on jumping.
SAMMY JUNIOR - Slipped behind on jumping.
KINGS ROAD - Brushed the running rail near the 700 metres.
GREEDY - When questioned regading the poor performance of the gelding App. Holt explained that the horse performs best when able to dictate terms in front. He said that after a runner improved quickly to his inside, his mount was then inclined to lay out, rounding the home turn ran wide, and weakened noticeably over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer G. Wehlow was told that GREEDY must perform satisfactory in a trial prior to being permitted to race again.
RACE 4: Magpies Sporting Club 3-Y-O Plate - 1200 metres
1st - EXECUTED 2nd - OUR NEDDY BOY 3rd - CHARCOAL MELODY 4th - RED BOHEMIA
EXECUTED - Was slow to begin.
CHARCOAL MELODY - Raced keenly in the early stages.
RACE 5: Connole Carlisle BenchMark 70 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st - PERFECT KNOWLEDGE 2nd - CLEAVER 3rd - MY KING OATH 4th - ARIADNE
BLOWIN' YOUR MIND - Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight.
MIN MIN MAN - When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding Apprentice K. Aho explained that her mount travelled comfortably throughout, however when another runner improved to her outside near the 600 metres the gelding was reluctant to race genuinely inside runners and was disappointing.
RACE 6: News Xpress Mt Pleasant Class 2 Handicap - 1100 metres
1st - KILLER WASP 2nd - ZAHA EXPRESS 3rd - RELEVANT GIRL 4th - LUCKY BOBBY
RANGILA - After being late arriving on course because of transport difficulties, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. On returning to scale jockey explained that the gelding never travelled throughout and was disappointing. He said that in his opinion the horse may not have handled today's soft track conditions.
PASCALINO - Was slow to begin.
BANTRY HOUSE - Slow to begin.
REAL FRENCH SAGA - Slow to begin.
SHINKASHU - Raced wide throughout.
LUCKY BOBBY - Approaching the first turn, near the 1000 metres, had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of another runner.
CRYSTALS'N'PEARLS - Rider accidentally dropped his whip approaching the 100 metres.
KAYAN - Near the 100 metres was momentarily crowded and had to be steadied when attempting a narrow run to the inside of another runner.
KILLER WASP - Jockey J. Felix was fined $200 under A.R. 137A for excessive use of the whip.
RACE 7: Knight Frank BenchMark 60 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st - FRAIDSO 2nd - PERFECT RAINBOW 3rd - RIGHT OR ROME 4th - BLEACHING
VON MOGLICH - Was fractious whilst parading, then struck the fence leaving the enclosure. The gelding was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon. Acting on her advice that the horse was unfit to take its place in the field, stewards declared it a late scratching at 4.47 p.m. Stewards ordered that all bets made on the gelding be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply:
5¢ in the dollar for the win, for the winner FRAIDSO
6¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, FRAIDSO
5¢ in the dollar for the place for second, PERFECT RAINBOW
6¢ in the dollar for the place for third, RIGHT OR ROME
Trainer G. Wehlow was told that he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness before the gelding will be permitted to race again.
HIGH CHANCELLOR - Missed the start (2 lengths).
COOL TRICK - Raced ungenerously in the early stages with its head up.
RAPID DRAGON - Raced wide throughout.
LA RIVE DROITE - Hung out rounding the home turn.
RIGHT OR ROME - Approaching the 100 metres was disappointed for a run and had to be shifted to the outside to obtain clear running.
WHAT'S UP SNIP - A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had sustained an injury to its nearside knee. Trainer K. Shaw informed stewards that the gelding will now be spelled. Nevertheless, he was advised that he must furnish a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.
