WEATHER – OVER/CAST, TRACK RATING – SOFT 6/SOFT 5 FOLLOWING RACE 3 RETROSPECTIVELY

RACE 1: BOOK YOUR FUNCTION IN THE EVENT CENTRE MAIDEN PLATE – 1560M
 
RANGA ROCKET – Wide early and middle stages of the race.
 
REAL LUCKY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
COLOUR DRAMA – Hung out rounding the turn near the 1200m.
 
NEED A WARRANT – Inclined to race ungenerously when the pace slackened near the 1200m. Shifted out rounding the home-turn crowding another runner. Rider S. Wilson was advised to exercise more care.
 
THE SHOWMAN – Crowded for room rounding the home-turn. 
 
RACE 2: MORE THAN JUST A RACECOURSE OPEN H’CAP – 1300M
 
SPORTING PAGE – Held up for clear running approaching the 200m, until leaving the 100m, before obtaining a run to the inside of EMBRACE THE PAIN.
 
DANCHAI – Faltered near the 200m and was retired from the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have severely injured its near fore leg and it was subsequently euthanized on humane grounds.  
 
RACE 3: BECOME A MEMBER AND SAVE BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1560M
 
CARDO MOJO – Slow into stride. Raced 3 wide in the early and middle stages of the race. After questioning Mr L. Wright in relation to the scratching of FOUR EXCEL, leaving a field of four runners, Stewards were satisfied that no breach of the rules of racing had occurred and subsequently took no action.
 
FASSLER – Slow into stride. A post veterinary examination revealed the gelding had bled during the running of the race. As this was its first bleeding attack, Trainer D Micallef was advised FASSLER would incur the mandatory 3 month ban from racing under the provisions of AR53A and must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to being permitted to race again.
 
INFANTRY – Raced 3 wide for the majority of the race. When questioned regarding his riding of the gelding, in particular his lack of vigour in the early part of the straight, rider Q Krogh stated the horse was difficult to ride due to its unusual head carriage placing him at a disadvantage. He further added that in his opinion the gelding would be better suited in races over a longer journey than that of today’s event. Stewards noted his explanation.
 
The track was upgraded to a Soft 5 following this race retrospectively.           

RACE 4: PAYNE PRINT MACKAY CLASSIC QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1100M 
 
MISTA LONGHORN – Due to technical difficulties blinkers failed to show in the race book. Public announcements were made accordingly. Slow into stride. Raced ungenerously for some distance leaving the 600m. Bumped with another runner near the 200m.
 
LEGAL TIES – Awkwardly away after being fractious in the barriers. Raced wide early without cover. Rider J Stanley advised Stewards following the race the filly had a tendency to hang in from leaving the 600m until entering the home straight and was not entirely comfortable on today’s track surface.
 
WICKED DANCER – Slow into stride.
 
CYCLONE TOPGIRL – Stewards inquired into an incident near the 900m. After hearing evidence and viewing of the patrol film it was established that the filly, when racing forward and to the outside of ROCKETHEAD (C Jokic), commenced to race greenly, eased of its own accord and shifted in hampering that runner then again steadied of its own accord near the 600m. Trainer L Wright was advised a warning would be placed on the horses racing manners.
 
ROCKETHEAD – Hampered by another runner near the 900m.
 
OB LA DI – Restrained from heels near the 700m. Bumped with another runner near the 200m.
 
RACE 5: BACK TO MACKAY RACEDAY 23 DECEMBER MAIDEN H’CAP – 1050M  
 
HOT TEMPO – Stewards granted permission for the mare to race without ear- muffs when trainer Mr L. Wanless was unable to implement this gear change prior to the declaration of acceptances due to technical issues. Slow to begin.
 
PETITE ELLE – Fractious in the barriers rearing several times. Trainer R Bowen was advised a warning would be placed in the horse’s barrier manners.
 
BUD RICKS – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race.
 
DOUBLEO CI – Rider N Day reported to Stewards following the race that the gelding raced very greenly throughout, proving difficult to ride. Trainer J Campeao was advised a warning would be placed on the horse’s racing manners.

RACE 6: GET YOUR BUSINESS BRAND TRACKSIDE BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1050M
 
STRONG WILL – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have sustained lacerations to its mouth area due to making contact with the barrier gates after anticipating the start. 
 
PERSISTENT SHADOW – Slow to begin.
 
EASY WEEKEND – When questioned into the disappointing performance of the gelding, rider G Kliese was at loss to explain other than it was the horse’s first run at the track and it may not have been suited by the tight turning circuit under it’s heavy impost. He further added the gelding felt normal in its action however failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure. Trainer B Williams concurred with G Kliese and gave an undertaking to advise Stewards if anything should come to his attention in the following days that may have had, any bearing on today’s performance.
 
MISS ANNA – Rider M Barnham was fined the sum of $100 under AR120 (b) in that he returned to scale in excess of ½ kg over his allotted weight.        
 
RACE 7: JOIN THE 100 CLUB BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1300M
 
KILLER LOVE – Slow to begin.
 
ANOTHER LISTING – Slow into stride when crowded for room at the start.  
 
HILLCREST – Restrained leaving the 1100m when the pace slackened and commenced to race ungenerously. Steadied near the 600m when racing in restricted room.
 
LAMERICAN – Restrained near the 1100m and shifted wider when the pace steadied. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
PROFUSIVE – Restrained when forced out across heels near the 1100m when the pace slackened. Raced wide for the remainder of the race.
 
LIKER – Rider M Murphy was reprimanded under AR137 (d) in that he steadied the pace near the 1100m inconveniencing other runners. Shifted ground when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
FABULOUS CHILD – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race.
