After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, A. Butler, the rider of DESPIRITO, placed 3rd by the Judge, lodged an objection against LAST CHANCE being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that although both horses had bumped near the 70m, this was attributable to both runners shifting ground at that stage. In the circumstances, stewards did not consider that the Judge’s margin separating both runners at the finish had been exceeded by the interference and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored.
