He was also of the opinion the horse may have come to the end of its preparation.

ICE WARRIOR – Near the 900m shifted in when not fully clear of PRINCE OF MINE, and was advised by stewards to exercise more care.  Raced ungenerously in the early stages and commenced to hang out from the 800m, and as a result near the 600m AIRLIE BEACH had to be steadied. The horse continued to hang out and near the 400m, JACKOH was taken wider on the track.  A post race veterinary examination of ICE WARRIOR failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Connections were advised that ICE WARRIOR will be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

PRINCE OF MINE – Raced keenly at the heels of ICE WARRIOR and near the 900m shifted out and became unbalanced.

AIRLIE BEACH – Obliged to steadied near 600m. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race. Commenced to yield ground from the 500m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

SAMBA RIO – Bumped at the start.

ANA’S IDOL – Hampered on jumping away.

CRAIGLEA VELVET – Stewards questioned apprentice A. Thomson regarding her leading on the horse in the event.  Apprentice Thomson stated that her instructions were to attempt to obtain a forward position from the wide barrier, however she was also of the opinion she may have gone too hard. However, App Thomson was mindful of further instructions to not restrain her mount due to a tendency for the horse to over race.

Race 5: Merry Chirstmas Class 3 Plate- 1300 metres

CARDA MOJO – Was buffeted at the start between GOLD TORQUE, which jumped outwards, and COLLYWOBBLE, and as a result, CARDA MOJO lost ground.  When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey J. Stanley stated that he had been informed the horse was racing well and was expected it to perform well, that the horse may get back in the race and was able to perform best when able to get to the outside of the field.  He added that after suffering some interference at the start he raced back in the field, however placed the horse under pressure leaving the 600m, and from the home turn had complied with instructions and raced to the outside of the field, however he added his mount was under pressure upon straightening. Jockey Stanley further stated that the horse’s failure to let down may be attributed to it being affected by the firm track conditions.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a routine swab sample was taken.
