As W. D’Avila was not riding at today’s meeting, replacements were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
 
Race 1: Mojo’s Class 6 Plate – 1560m
 
THANKGODFORGRANC – Slow to begin.
 
OPTION – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages. Following this performance, trainer M. Attard advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
 
CASTA – Trainer T. Bannon was fined $100 for the late declaration of A. Spinks as the rider of the gelding. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
Stewards interviewed apprentice A. Spinks (CASTA), and jockey S. Wiseman (MALKARA) into the reason both horses started from incorrect barriers. After hearing evidence from both riders, they both pleaded guilty to a charge under AR128(1)(2) and were fined the sum of $100 each. Stewards were satisfied that this error had no bearing on the horses’ finishing positions. Starter Mr P. Conway was admonished in that the horses started from the incorrect barriers, and the CEO of Mackay Turf Club, Mr J. Hynes, was advised that going forward the club must provide an Assistant Starter for future meetings.
 

 
 
Race 2: Taylors Solicitors QTIS 2yo & 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1300m
 
TEREX – Began very awkwardly and lost ground.
 
RED RIPPA – Slow to begin.
 
WIRRAWAY – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly for the majority of the race.
 
ESTRELLA FELLA – Laid out under pressure in the home straight and shifted out near the 200m, hampering another runner.
 
ALPHORN – Was disappointed for a run near the 250m and shifted out to obtain clear running and near the 200m was hampered by another runner, which laid out.  Approaching the winning post, rider N. Day was struck heavily 4 times by the whip of another rider, placing him at some discomfort.
 
Race 3: Toxfree QTIS 2yo H’cap – 1100m
 
LAST CHANCE – Blinkers were advertised in the race-book which was incorrect and the gelding was permitted to race without them which it had done at its previous start. This was advertised via media outlets. Began awkwardly.
 
CRAIGLEA RUBBLE – Slow go begin. Hung in shortly after the start, inconveniencing another runner.
 
WITTY SON – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced by another runner shortly after the start, which hung in and had to be steadied. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s competitiveness after finishing tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.
 
Race 4: Natural Body & Beauty Clinic Maiden H’cap – 1050m
 
THE VOLTO – Began very awkwardly and lost ground.  Hung out rounding the home turn, shifting wider.
 
SNOOZE YA LOSE – After being bumped on the hind quarters shortly after the start, attempted to buck. Trainer T. Bannon was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s racing manners.
 
ICE WARRIOR – Jumped out at the start, making contact with the hind quarters of another runner, and then shifted in, inconveniencing a runner to its inside. Raced greenly in the home straight.
 
YAKAPARI – Hampered shortly after the start by another runner, which shifted in. Shifted in abruptly near the 200m when placed under pressure.
 
 
 
Race 5:  Case IH Benchmark 60 H’cap – 1800m
 
BAROQUE GIRL – Slow to begin. Forced wider by another runner near the 900m and raced wide from that point onwards.
 
FRISKIER – Made the turn out of the straight on the first occasion awkwardly, and then over-raced for a short distance. Held up for clear running near the 300m before shifting wider.
 
FASSLER – Improved onto heels leaving the 1500m, having to be steadied.
 
CATASTROPHE KISS – Shifted in at the start, bumping another runner. Raced wide in the early stages before assuming the lead near the 1350m.
 
PORTSEA – Trainer I. Prizeman was fined $100 for the late declaration of A. Spinks as the rider of the gelding. Bumped by another runner, which shifted in at the start.
 
RAMSDEN STREET – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
Race 6: Tait & Co Chartered Accountants Ratings Band 0-65 H’cap – 1200m
 
HEYINTON – Slow to begin. Unable to take an advantage of a run near the 300m before shifting wider near the 150m and finishing the race off strongly.
 
KWANZA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight proving difficult to ride out. 
 
Race 7: Leketek Open H’cap – 1100m
 
GYPSY SECRET – Declared a late scratching at 4.49 pm by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice after the horse became fractious in the barriers. On the announcement of correct weight, all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions applicable.
 
8 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
10 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bet for the place
11 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets.
 
Trainer C. Garland was advised that the horse must obtain a further barrier certificate before it will be permitted to race again.
 
ALL ROUND GLORY – Jumped inwards at the start, inconveniencing another runner.
 
ELJAY ATOM – Inconvenienced between runners on jumping away.
 
GRAND EMPEROR – Bumped by another runner on jumping away.
 
PRINCELY – Slow to begin.
 
EMBRACE THE PAIN – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
