GENERAL
Medical clearances were received for R Wiggins and M McGillivray.
DREAM OF DUBAI and LEFKAS ISLAND were both examined by the veterinarian pre-race and cleared to race after racing within the previous seven days.
Race 1: SMARTSTATE RENTALS Class 3 Plate 1800 metres
SAYL (GB) – Raced keenly through the middle stages.
BATTLE – Raced wide over the early stages.
HIGHMASTER – Raced keenly over the early and middle stages. Returned to the enclosure with blood present in its mouth with a post-race veterinary examination confirming the gelding had suffered minor lacerations to its mouth.
ANGOLA MISS – Rider M McGillivray advised the Stewards ANGOLA MISS failed to stretch out throughout the race most noticeably over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer J Wiggington advised he would have his veterinarian complete a follow up examination and he would advise the Stewards of the outcome.
OR ELSE – Raced without both front plates. A pre-race veterinary examination cleared OR ELSE to start. Apprentice rider C Collis was fined $600 for using his whip on two more occasions than permitted prior to the 100m pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii). When accessing penalty Stewards took into account this was Mr Collis’s ninth breach of the rule since the introduction of the whip template in August 2020.
Race 2: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1300 metres
OLLIE'S STAND – Raced three wide without cover over the early stages. Over raced early stages. Rider W D’Avila lost his whip near the 150m.
TAVIVALLEY (NZ) – Was a late scratching at 12.47pm after it became fractious in the barriers and struck itself on its hind quarter. Prior to correct weight being declared Stewards ordered all bets invested on TAVIVALLEY prior to 12.47pm subject to the following deductions;
6 cents for the win and 8 cents for the place winner MISSY MILE.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be suffering from an abrasion to its hind quarter. Trainer J Manzelmann advised it is his intention to spell TAVIVALLEY however he was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to TAVIVALLEY resuming racing.
After hearing submissions from trainer J Manzelmann the Stewards took no further action with TAVIVALLEY due to it being ascertained a barrier blanket had been failed to be applied as per its notified gear.
BERNIE BEEL – Slow to begin.
Race 3: BOOK YOUR EVENTS AT THE CLUB Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
The Stewards accepted Apprentice rider C Collis’s explanation when he dually accepted for both MISHANI MORTAL and SNEAKY GAL. Mr Collis was however advised to ensure he communicates with his rider agent in a more professional manner in the future.
M McGillivray was examined by the QAS officers prior to this race and cleared to ride.
YUAN FEN – Shifted inwards at the start impeding GOLDEN TREASURE.
GOLDEN TREASURE – Hampered on jumping.
MISHANI MORTAL – Raced three wide with cover over the early stages.
DO IT FOR VIV – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
SNEAKY GAL – Stewards permitted rider S Sheargold to ride the mare 1kg over its allocated weight due to no other available riders. Struck the barrier on jumping and was slow to begin as a result. A post-race veterinary examination failed to detect any abnormalities.
SPANISH SPIRIT – Over raced early stages. Raced greenly outside the leader in the middle stages.
Race 4: MORE THAN JUST A RACECOURSE QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1100 metres
There was a three-minute delay due to some runners being difficult to load.
COCHRANE – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
ISIS CARMELLA – Rider M McGillivray reported his saddle shifted over the early stages placing him at a disadvantage.
MILKY ROCKET – Proved difficult to load with a warning being placed on the barrier manners of the colt.
MISHANI DUDE – Slow to begin then was buffeted between runners.
SHESAYSTHANKS – Begun awkwardly making contact with the barriers then shifted inwards hampering MILKY ROCKET. Following the race SHESAYSTHANKS made the crossing awkwardly and stumbled dislodging rider W D’Avila. Mr D’Avila was transported to the Mackay Hospital for further examination and observation. Mr D’Avila was replaced on his remaining rides as per the summary. Mr D’Avila was advised he requires a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.
MOONLIT ROSE – Shifted outwards at the start.
ONE LAST TIME – Tightened for room at the start.
STRIKING ROCKET – Difficult to load.
Race 5: BOOK NOW FOR AMATEURS SATURDAY 29TH MAY BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1100 metres
There was a four-minute delay in this race due to the fall in the previous race.
THE EGYPTIAN – Lost its off fore plate during the running.
BARBADOS STORM – Slow to begin and failed to maintain contact with the field throughout. A post-race veterinary examination confirmed BARBADOS STORM was a bilateral bleeder. Due to this being the second occasion trainer M Bannon was advised BARBADOS STORM is now eligible to race again pursuant to AR79(6).
EMILY'S SONG – Bumped with ROCKETHEAD at the start. Raced three wide throughout.
BELLARINE – Began awkwardly.
ROCKETHEAD – Bumped with EMILY’S SONG at the jump.
EXELANT MOSH – Slow to begin.
Race 6: PETER & ALICJA BURNS BIRTHDAY BASH BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1300 metres
FRATELLINO – Rider A Butler advised the Stewards FRATELINO felt uncomfortable throughout the race with a post-race examination failing to reveal any abnormalities.
HEYINGTON – Slow to begin
STAR OF O'REILLY (NZ) – Raced keenly over the early stages.
STEELZ TIME – Begun awkwardly.
GENOA – Raced three wide without cover throughout. When questioned by the Stewards apprentice rider C Collis advised GENOA felt awkward in its action throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to detect any abnormalities.
SOLDIERS – Was a late scratching at 2.57pm after trainer L Smerdon did not wish to utilise the services of the available senior riders when W D’Avila was unavailable due to being injured earlier in the day.
Prior to correct weight being declared Stewards ordered all bets invested on SOLDIERS prior to 2.57pm were subject to the following deductions;
3 cents for the win and 4 cents for the place on winner STAR OF O’REILLY
5 cents for the second placed MISS SILKY
10 cents for the third placed HEYINGTON
MISS SILKY – Laid inwards in the home straight. R Wiggins was fined $600 for using his whip on one more occasion than permitted prior to the 100m pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii). When considering penalty the Stewards took into account this was Mr Wiggins 11th breach of the Rule since the implementation of the penalty guidelines.
Race 7: SKY RACING RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1200 metres
PROVOCATIVE MAN – Laid inwards in the home straight. Rider J Baker was suspended for a seven-day period from midnight the 22nd of May to midnight the 29th of May 2021 for using his whip excessively pursuant to AR132(5).
HAVANNAH SUNSET – Hampered AZIOC on jumping.
CLIFTON COUNTY – Apprentice rider C Collis was fined $600 for using his whip on two more occasions than permitted prior to the 100m under AR132(7)(a)(ii). When considering penalty the Stewards took into account it was Mr Collis’s 10th breach of the Rule since the commencement of the penalty guidelines in August 2020.
AZIOC – Contacted by HAVANNAH SUNSET at the start then failed to stride out over the early stages. Trainer O Cairns was advised AZIOC was required to complete one satisfactory barrier trial prior to resuming racing.
BON RUBY – Stewards permitted rider S Sheargold to ride the mare 1kg over its allocated weight due to no other available riders.
Race 8: RACING AGAIN NEXT SATURDAY 29TH MAY BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1560 metres
TYCOON FLYER – Begun awkwardly.
ROCK 'N' SOL – Laid inwards in the home straight.
CELEBRATION DAY – Over-raced through the early and middle stages. Raced in restricted room throughout the home straight and was unable to be fully tested by rider M Haley.
DACXI KABOOM – Held up in the early and middle stages of the home straight before obtaining clear racing room. Laid inwards when improving its position over the concluding stages. Rider J Baker was fined $300 under AR211(1) when he weighed in in excess of .5kg over the weight he was required to carry
NICKS – Over-raced early and middle stages.
FEATHER YOUR NEST (NZ) – Failed to maintain contact with the field throughout. A post-race veterinary examination confirmed the mare was lame in the off hind leg with a veterinary clearance required prior to resuming racing.
