SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
RACE 6 BARCALDINE RACING CLUB 4TH SEPTEMBER 2021
Stewards concluded an enquiry in relation to the handling of QUICK VERSE by jockey Ric McMahon. Stewards found QUICK VERSE was slow to begin despite Mr McMahon’s attempt to jump on terms from the inside barrier. QUICK VERSE settled at the back of the field on a fast early tempo. Mr McMahon was urging at his mount prior to the 800 metre mark in an attempt to improve his position however QUICK VERSE failed to respond. Mr McMahon elected to save ground rounding the bend and in the home straight he encountered a chequered run requiring him to shift ground. Mr McMahon failed to show vigor in his riding over the concluding stages in which the Stewards believed cost him the opportunity to finish in fifth placing.  Subsequent enquiries in relation to the betting on the race failed to disclose any betting irregularities. The Stewards did not believe Mr McMahon’s ride was at the required standard for a breach of a running and handling charge pursuant to AR129(2) however Mr McMahon was charged with a breach of AR131(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out over the final stages costing him fifth placing. Mr McMahon plead guilty to the charge and was fined $200.
