SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
MACKAY TURF CLUB 22 OCTOBER 2021
Stewards concluded an inquiry in relation to an incident involving licensed apprentice Ms Alisha Donald and licensed jockey Mr Adam Sewell following the running of the last race in the jockeys weighing room. After taking evidence from both riders and hearing from other witnesses both Ms Donald and Mr Sewell were issued with a charge under AR115(1)(a) in that they misconducted themselves. Both riders pled guilty to the charges with Ms Donald being fined $800 with $300 of the fine suspended for a two-year period. Mr Sewel was fined $200 together with a suspended fine of $500 from Rockhampton on the 29th of April 2021 which was invoked. Both riders were advised of their rights to an internal review.
Race 1:TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1100 metres
AMMOUDI BAY - Slow to begin. Laid inwards in the home straight.
HURRICANE FIGHTER (NZ) – Trainer O Cairns was fined $100 pursuant to AR206(2) for a late change of gear with the addition of blinkers. Over raced early and middle stages.
QUART POT – Was reluctant to load. Reared in the starting gates after being loaded and was inspected by the club veterinarian and cleared to race. A warning was placed on the barrier manners of the mare. Eased of heels shortly after the start.
Race 2: PROFESSIONALS REAL ESTATE RATINGS BAND 0 – 58 HANDICAP 1100 metres
Correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of JOHNNY WHITESOX to view Stewards footage of the start and make submissions regarding being declared a non-runner pursuant to AR204(1). After hearing submissions from the stable representative J Doolan, the Stewards deemed JOHNNY WHITESOX to be a runner as its slow start was due to its own barrier manners and correct weight was declared on the judges’ placings.
JOHNNY WHITESOX – Reared at the start losing considerable ground. The connections were advised the gelding was stood down to complete a satisfactory trial.
SPANISH SPIRIT – Shifted outwards approaching the home turn.
BILL “N’ TED – Apprentice T Fenlon was reprimanded for using her whip on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted under AR132(7)(a)(ii).
SASANQUAS – Trainer O Cairns was fined $100 pursuant to AR106(1) for presenting SASANQUAS with the incorrect saddlecloth number. Reared on several occasions prior to the start. Laid inwards over the final stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A warning was placed on the barrier manners of the mare.
SETLIN SAGE – Apprentice rider A Donald was reprimanded for failing to claim her full apprentice claim pursuant to AR143(14)(a). Laid inwards early and middle stages
Race 3: NEXT ACCOUNTING MAIDEN PLATE 1200 metres
SECLUSION – Over raced early and middle stages.
LENNY ROCKEY – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Over raced early and middle stages.
BIRD’S NEST – Over raced in the early stages and became awkwardly placed on heels. A warning was placed on the mares pre-race manners after she bucked during the preliminary.
GIRL ON TOP – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin.
PERIODIGAL – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced greenly throughout the running.
TATEYAMA – Raced fiercely in the early stages and passing the 1100m had to be restrained and shift wider after improving onto heels. Raced greenly for the remainder of the event.
Race 4: KEY SOLUTIONS GROUP BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1300 metres
CATMOSPHERE – Raced wide through the early and middle stages.
READY FOR MAGIC – Bumped with another runner shortly after the start.
SCENT OF FEAR – Raced wide with cover early stages. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
CHERONKOH – Laid out in the early stages of the event. A post-race veterinary examination confirmed the mare to be lame in the off fore knee with the connections advised the mare requires a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing.
SPRINGTHORPE – Raced in restricted room approaching the 900m.
TAVI MCBRIDE (NZ) – Jumped away awkwardly. Bumped with another runner shortly after the start. Shifted off heels over the final stages.
SCHATZI – Slow to begin. Raced keenly through the early stages. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages to the inside of SCENT OF FEAR which laid in under pressure.
GETOUT OF MY NEIGH (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.
Race 5: GARDIAN GROUP BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1560 metres
MASON’S CHANCE – Over raced early and middle stages.
BERNIE’S TIGER – Slow to begin.
QUIDNI – Laid inwards in the home straight.
JACKPOT JAY – Raced keenly middle stages.
SKAGERAK (NZ) – M Haley replaced D Simmons after he was stood down due to sustaining a shoulder injury.
WATCH LIST (NZ) – Jumped away awkwardly. Over raced early and middle stages. Trainer J Manzelmann advised it was his intention to make further gear changes to the mare prior to its next race day start. Stewards intend to follow up with Mr Manzelmann regarding the post-race recovery of WATCH LIST.
