The following weight alterations were authorised.
Race 3: J Stanley – PLANET WARRIOR - +1kg – 55kg
Race 8: J Stanley – MASON’S CHANCE - +1kg – 55kg
 
Apprentice Jockey S Nielson was indisposed due to illness for today’s meeting and was subsequently replaced as per the steward’s summary. 
 
Apprentice Jockey S Willis was unavailable for today’s meeting and as was subsequently replaced as per the steward’s summary.
 
Jockey N Day encountered travel delays and he was unable to take his ride on QUE CEE SPADE in race two and was replaced by A Sewell.
 
Race 1: SKY RACING QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1200 metres
 
ISIS CARMELLA – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.

FIRE KING – Jumped away awkwardly. Was momentarily inconvenienced and had to steady to avoid the heels of ISIS CARMELLA which shifted in passing the 1000m. Apprentice Jockey T Fenlon was reprimanded under AR131(a) for allowing her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey R Wiggins was fined $200 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip six times prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
AGUSTAWYND – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 2: BLACK MEMORIAL RACEDAY FRIDAY 15TH JULY Maiden
Handicap 1100 metres
 
MISHANI HURRICANE – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Jumped away awkwardly and shifted in bumping MONEY TRAVELS. Raced wide throughout the event.
 
CANTOR – Slow to begin. Shifted out off the heels of QUE CEE SPADE to obtain clear racing room passing the 200m.
 
BROADWATER – Jumped away awkwardly. Shortly after the start commenced to lay inwards making heavy contact with MOTORED forcing that runner onto the inside running rail. Continued to race ungenerously placing Apprentice Jockey C Collis in difficulty. Further continued to strike the inside running rail for several strides. Had to be severely restrained and eased taking no further competitive part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer R Cussons was advised that BROADWATER would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards for its racing manners prior to its next future race start.
 
QUE CEE SPADE – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted in bumping PLAYING HOOKIE.
 
MONEY TRAVELS – Bumped on jumping by MISHANI HURRICANE.
 
PLAYING HOOKIE – Bumped on jumping by QUE CEE SPADE and as a result was slow to begin.
 
WHOOPIE WOOP TRAIN – Was awkwardly placed on the heels of REAL TIDY and had to be  restrained passing the 600m.
 
 
Race 3: S.H. TAIT & CO CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS OPEN Handicap
1560 metres
 
NORTH AFRIKA – Jumped away awkwardly. When questioned regarding the performance in today’s event, Jockey R Wiggins advised that the gelding failed to see the trip out and anticipated would gain improvement from today’s run.
 
SO YOU DREAM – Jumped away awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages of the event. Raced wide throughout the event. When stewards questioned Apprentice J Cornish regarding the tactics used in today’s event she advised that it was her intention to push forward and obtain a position outside the leader however SCHAPPOSE (NZ) had improved outside the leader leaving her caught wide and unable to obtain that position. Apprentice Cornish advised that she then attempted to settle her mount rather than taking a hold and be eased to the rear of the field. Stewards noted Apprentice Cornish’s explanation.
 
PLANET WARRIOR – Slow to begin. Was held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the home straight.
 
SHADOW GODDESS – Slow to begin. Improved onto the heels of SCHAPPOSE (NZ) and had to be restrained passing the 1400m. Raced keenly throughout the event.  
 
 
Race 4: MACKAY CUP SATURDAY 23RD JULY BENCHMARK 60
Handicap 1560 metres
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow Apprentice Jockey C Collis, the rider of second placegetter SPRINGTHORPE, to view the judge’s photo. After viewing the photo correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings.  
 
BOLD KINGSTON – Raced keenly throughout the event. Held up for clear racing room for majority of the home straight.
 
VELARO – Raced wide with cover throughout the event. Had to be restrained near the 50m when placed onto the heels of NERUMBERG CASTLE which had been dictated outwards by SPRINGTHORPE. Apprentice Jockey C Collis was reprimanded under AR131(a) for allowing his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear over the concluding stages. When considering penalty Stewards took into account mitigating circumstances where VALARO had been dictated inwards by horses on its outer.
 
SPRINGTHORPE – Jumped away awkwardly making contact with SOUND OF SLEAT. Laid out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages dictating NERUMBERG CASTLE wider.
 
JOEL – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
KEEP ON LOVING YOU – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight placing BATTLE in restricted room approaching the 50m.
 
LUCKY FOR SOME – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
NUREMBURG CASTLE – Was carried outwards over the concluding stages by SPRINGTHORPE which shifted out.
 
SOUND OF SLEAT – Jumped away awkwardly shifting in bumping SPRINGTHORPE.
 
NAOMI – Slow to begin. Raced wide with cover throughout the event. 
 
BATTLE – Had to be restrained approaching the 50m when placed in restricted room to the inside of KEEP ON LOVING YOU which laid inwards. Apprentice Jockey T Fenlon was reprimanded under AR131(a) for allowing her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear.
 
 
Race 5: JETSON SALVAGE & SCRAP METAL RATINGS BAND 0 - 55
Handicap 1200 metres
 
BETTER DAYS AHEAD – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination prior to loading after being kicked by another runner at the barriers and was cleared to start. Jockey J Taylor reported that his mount had over raced and it was not his intention to place pressure on the leader WREN PLUCKED.
 
GUMNUTS – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Reared on jumping as the gates opened and as a result was slow to begin. Trainer O Cairns was advised that a warning was placed on the geldings record for its barrier manners.  
 
SHOCK ZONE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lost its right hind plate in running.
 
STRATOBEL – Slow into stride.
 
MISS CONFIDANTE – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
REAL EMPRESS – Slow into stride. Over raced in the early stages of the event. Raced in restricted room for majority of the home straight.
 
WREN PLUCKED – Shifted in abruptly passing the 1000m before being steadied.
 
 
Race 6: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY Class 6 Plate 1300 metres
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey R Wiggins, the rider of SPIRIT ESPRIT and trainer G Taylor to view the stewards patrol footage over the concluding stages. Once footage was viewed both parties elected not to proceed with a protest and correct weight was declared.
 
CAVELLTON – Slow to begin.
 
DR DEMON – Slow to begin.
 
BOOM GATE – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
SPIRIT ESPRIT – Over the concluding stages blundered when KEFALONIA (N Day)  shifted outwards when insufficiently clear. Jockey N Day was suspended under AR131(a) for allowing his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of SPIRIT ESPRIT causing that runner to blunder. Jockey Day’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of eight days to commence midnight 09/07/2022 to conclude midnight 17/07/2022. In determining penalty stewards took into consideration Jockey Day’s guilty plea, his disciplinary record and the horse’s racing manners throughout the event.
 
KEFALONIA – Shifted off the heels of WIDESPREAD when over racing placing jockey N Day in difficulty passing the 1100m. Upon returning to scale, Jockey N Day reported that he had difficulty controlling his mount throughout the event. Laid out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages of the event placing SPIRIT ESPIRT on heels. Causing that horse to blunder.  

WIDESPREAD – Bumped with ZIPSPUR which improved on its inside passing the 100m.Stewards questioned rider T Fenlon regarding the instructions she received from trainer C Attard after she led in today’s event. Ms Fenlon advised she was instructed to be positive and after the gelding jumped well she elected to settle in front. Stewards intend to speak with trainer C Attard regarding the tactics adopted and the instructions given to Ms Fenlon.
 
THE ABYSS (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
ZIPSPUR – Over raced in the early stages of the event. Bumped with WIDESPREAD when attempting to obtain a marginal run passing the 100m.
 
 
Race 7: SMARTSTATE RENTALS Class 3 Plate 1100 metres
 
SANTORINI SUMMER – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
HARRY ROCKET – Held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the home straight.
 
RAMBLIN' MAN – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
LAST CHANCE DANCE – Stewards granted permission for Jockey J Stanley to ride the mount due to no other apprentice jockey available. Upon returning to scale Jockey J Stanley stated that the mare had worked hard over the early stages and over raced throughout the event.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a slow post-race recovery.
 
SPIRIT HOUSE – Stood flat footed on jumping and as a result was slow to muster early speed. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised that a warning was placed on the mare’s barrier record. 
 
SUNDARA – Slow to begin. Was momentarily inconvenienced and had to steady to avoid the heels of RAMBLIN’ MAN which shifted in. Apprentice Jockey I Teh was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances in the future. Laid out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.  
 
CAT IN THE RAINE – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event.
 
 
Race 8: BARRY WILLIAMS MEMORIAL LIGHTNING OPEN Handicap 1100 metres
 
MARWAY – Jockey A Coome advised he believed the gelding had got its tongue over the bit during the running and he would be recommending the addition of a tongue tie for its upcoming races.
 
BRAD – Bumped with FANAAR (NZ) on jumping. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
BOLD STYLE – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Bumped with FANAAR (NZ) when improving to its inside near the 300m.
 
FANAAR (NZ) – Bumped with BRAD on jumping. Made contact with BOLD STYLE and was shifted wider when it improved to its inside near the 300m.
 
CABALO ESCURO – Slow to begin. Had to steady off the heels of FANAAR (NZ) when it was carried out by BOLD STYLE near the 300m.
 
OUR ALICIA'S LANE – Slow to begin.
 
MASON'S CHANCE – Slow to begin. Jockey J Stanley was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip six times prior to the 100m one more than permitted.
