GENERAL
Jockey C Lennon did not attend today’s meeting due to personal reasons and was replaced on his ride in race one BRIGHT BEAN by A Sewell
 
L O’Donnell advised Stewards she had been injured the previous day and was replaced on her mounts as per the summary. Ms O’Donnell was advised she requires a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.
 
The following weight alterations were authorised by Stewards
Race 1: S Sheargold – I’M FAMOUS - + 1kg – 55kg
Race 3: C Whiteley – ANGELS LANDING - + .5kg – 55kg
Race 5: A Layt – SOUND OF SLEAT - + 1kg – 55kg
Race 7: L Tilley – RUN PEGGY RUN - + .5kg – 56.5kg
 
The track condition was upgraded to a Good 3 prior to Race one.
 
 
Race 1: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
 
ALL POWERED UP – Shifted outwards at the jump.
 
BRINGYATICKET – Lay inwards in the home straight. Rider J Murphy advised the gelding raced greenly throughout.
 
LOUIE GREYSTAR – Hampered on jumping. Lay inwards under pressure in the home straight. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding rider N Day could offer no explanation for the below market performance other than he believed it would benefit from the outing.
 
MISTREY EMPEROR – Improved off heels approaching the 200m to obtain clear racing room.
 
DIVINE SIENNA – Lay outwards for the majority of the home straight while being ridden out under pressure.
 
I'M FAMOUS – Impeded at the jump. Improved onto heels approaching the 100m and had to be steadied.
 
 
Race 2: SKY RACING QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
 
ALL ELEMENTS – Jumped awkwardly and was very slow to begin. Tailed the field throughout.  A warning was placed on the racing performance of the gelding.
 
OLY BOOM – Raced greenly in tight quarters over the early stages. When questioned regarding the performance rider A Butler advised the gelding only travelled average throughout and when a run presented it failed to let down. He believed OLY BOOM would be better suited to further distance in its upcoming events.
 
MIA'S DREAM – Bumped another runner at the start.
 
TAMINGO FOLLIES – Hampered on jumping. Had to be restrained when racing in tight quarters after approximately 100 metres. Stewards inquired into the incident questioning riders A Sewell, A Butler, J Murphy and A Layt. It was established FANCIFUL MR FOX (A Layt) had improved on the outer of the other runners and OLY BOOM had shifted marginally resulting in TAMINGO FOLLIES being tightened for room. A Layt was issued with a reprimand pursuant to AR131(a) – careless riding. When considering penalty Stewards took into account the corrective action taken by Mr Layt and the actions of the other horses involved.
 
KINGMATE – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 3: HAPPY EASTER FROM THE MTC Maiden Handicap 1300 metres
 
Prior to declaration of correct weight N Day the rider of GLOWSTICKS placed third lodged a Protest against the second placed CHAIN OF FIRE (R Wiggins) alleging interference for the majority of the home straight. After hearing submissions from both riders and their respective trainers Mr C Taylor and Mr K Smyth and viewing the footage, the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that GLOWSTICKS would have finished ahead of CHAIN OF FIRE without the alleged interference and the Protest was dismissed. Stewards took into account the degree of interference, the margin and the manner in which the horses finished off the race.
 
GLOWSTICKS – Over raced over the early stages. Bumped with CHAIN OF FIRE on several occasions in the home straight.
 
CHAIN OF FIRE – Lay outwards throughout the run home bumping with GLOWSTICKS on several occasions. A warning was placed on the racing manners of the gelding.
 
FLYING CARMEN – Slow into stride. Commenced to race keenly over the middle stages.
 
ANGELS LANDING – Was inspected by the veterinarian pre-race due to racing within the previous seven days and was cleared to race. Raced wide over the early stages.
 
FREYA'S CHOICE – Hung outwards on the bend by the 500m. Apprentice T Leslight was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(6)(c) for using his whip on his mount when out of contention.
 
MISHANI PATRIOT – Was inspected by the veterinarian pre-race due to racing within the previous seven days and was cleared to race.
 
 
Race 4: BOOK FOR AMATEUR CUP SAT 28TH MAY OPEN Handicap 1300 metres
 
DEEP BREATH – Lay  outwards near the 300m.
 
AGUSTAWYND – Raced wide over the early stages.
 
LIFETIME QUEST – Bumped with SUCH A WHIT near the 200m.
 
SUCH A WHIT – Slow to begin. Lay outwards and bumped with LIFETIME QUEST near the 200m. Continued to lay out over the concluding stages.
 
 
Race 5: JETSON SALVAGE & SCRAP METAL QTIS Class 4 Handicap 1300 metres
 
Prior to the declaration  of correct weight a Protest was lodged by the trainer of the second placed READY FOR MAGIC Mr R Vale against the winner THISLAND IS MYLAND alleging interference near the 300m. After hearing submissions from the respective trainers Mr Vale and Mr G Green and the riders R Wiggins and L Tilley and viewing the footage the Stewards upheld the Protest and the placings were amended. Stewards took into consideration the degree of the interference, the ground and momentum lost and the manner in which the horses finished off the race.

COCHRANE – Shifted ground outwards just prior to the home straight.
 
THISLAND IS MYLAND – Shifted inwards near the 300m.
 
READY FOR MAGIC – Checked near the 300m when THISLAND IS MYLAND improved on its outside and shifted ground inwards. L Tilley the rider of THISLAND IS MYLAND pleaded guilty to careless riding - AR131(a) and his race day rider’s licence was suspended for a period of nine days from midnight 11 April to midnight 20 April 2023.
 
TRICKY BEANS –  Raced wide for the majority of the race.Shifted off heels approaching the 300m.
 
MISHANI TULIP – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 6: SMARTSTATE RENTALS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1560 metres
 
RUFFIN' IT (NZ) – Raced keenly through the middle stages.A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor cut to the near hindside fetlock.
 
DEVIL KICK – Shifted outwards abruptly near the 150m.
 
DELIUS – Raced wide throughout. Lay inwards over the concluding stages.
 
MILKY ROCKET – Slow into stride.
 
MISSION HOUSE – Raced keenly over the early and middle stages.
 
PHOENIX FLYER – Inclined to lay inwards for the majority of the home straight.
 
HUNUA HANK (NZ) – Slow into stride.
 
ST MORITZ – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 7: RACING AGAIN THURSDAY 27TH APRIL RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1200 metres
 
FARMER'S FRIEND – Denied clear racing room through the early stages of the home straight.

ADMIRAL ASH – Slow into stride. Shifted off heels near the 250m to improve its position.
 
BOLD ZIP – Slow to begin. Held up for clear racing room through the early stages of the home straight.
 
LITTLE MISS QUINN – Made the bend near the 500m awkwardly. Returned to the mounting enclosure with blood from both nostrils. A post-race veterinary examination confirmed the mare had bled. Trainer J Wehlow was advised LITTLE MISS QUINN was stood down for a three-month period and must complete a satisfactory 1000m gallop in the presence of Stewards. Mr Wehlow advised it was his intention to retire the mare from his stable.
 
RUN PEGGY RUN – Raced wide throughout.
 
ROCKETING TO WIN – Lay outwards under pressure in the home straight.
