GENERAL

As Jockey S. Sheargold was unable to attend today’s meeting (Illness), rider replacements were approved as per the steward’s race day summary. Jockey S. Sheargold was advised that a medical certificate would be required prior to any future riding engagements.

The following runners all undertook a veterinary examination prior to their event after having raced within the previous 7 days:

Race 1: LADBROKES YARD COMMENTS MAIDEN PLATE 1560M

BRAND NEW (NZ) – Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.

KEY TO THE ZOU – Jumped away awkwardly, bumping STILLWATER. Raced greenly in the early stages. Passing the 600m was bumped by WHATJEUDOIN’ on the hindquarters and became momentarily unbalanced. Laid in upon entering the home straight.

THE EIGHTH I AM – Hampered on jumping by FAIRYBOWER FLYER which shifted out abruptly.

WHATJEUDOIN' – Overraced in the early and middle stages of the event. Shifted out passing the 600m and contacted the hindquarters of KEY TO THE ZOU. Hung out rounding the home turn. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

ATHENA'S SECRET – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

FAIRYBOWER FLYER – Shifted out abruptly on jumping hampering THE EIGHTH I AM. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormalities.

STILLWATER – Bumped on jumping by KEY TO THE ZOU.


Race 2: DONATELIFE 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1560M

ROGER EXPRESS (NZ) – Slow to begin. Was hampered shortly after the start when PLUCKERCARN shifted in. Raced wide throughout the event.

PLUCKERCARN – Shifted in shortly after the start hampering ROGER EXPRESS. Raced wide and commenced to overrace in the early stages of the event. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

ANSELMO – Slow to begin. Held up upon entering the home straight before obtaining clear racing room approaching the 200m.

DOOM DIVA – Shortly after the start shifted out bumping FLYING CARMEN which was carried out hampering ROGER EXPRESS.

DUCHESS ADELE – Raced wide in the early stages of the event.

RUFFIN' IT (NZ) – Raced wide throughout the event.

FLYING CARMEN – Slow into stride. Held up for the majority of the home straight before shifting out to obtain clear racing room approaching the 100m.

HUNUA HANK (NZ) – Apprentice B Johnson dropped her whip at the 100m.

Following Race 2, the track was upgraded to a Good 3 retrospectively.


Race 3: HORSE OF YEAR-IN BEL’S SHADOW BM70 HANDICAP 1560M

OVERSEAS (NZ) – Shifted out on jumping bumping ABSOLUTE CHARMER. Passing the 1050m was momentarily inconvenienced when MOENAVE shifted in marginally. Apprentice N Olzard was reminded of her obligations when shifting ground in future.

CLASS OF ROYALTY – Overraced in the early stages of the event.

MOENAVE – Raced wide early stages of the event.

SUCH A WHIT – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid in rounding the home turn. Jockey J. Taylor was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.

ABSOLUTE CHARMER – Shifted in on jumping, bumping OVERSEAS (NZ).


Race 4: LEADING TRAINER JARED WEHLOW QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1300M

CHUCKA DUMMY – Jockey C. Lennon reported that his mount was inclined to hang out throughout the event. Was carried outwards across ONOMATOPOEIA by EYES ARE LION which laid out near the 50m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Jockey C. Lennon pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(5) for using his whip on 18 occasions in totality throughout the event. Jockey C. Lennon’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight 19th September 2023 and to conclude midnight 26th September 2023.

ONOMATOPOEIA – Shifted in on jumping, bumping SEA MUD ‘N’ SUN. Over the final stages near the 50m, had to momentarily steady and restrain to avoid heels. Stewards conducted an inquiry into the incident and it was established that over the concluding stages, ONOMATOPOEIA had to momentarily steady and restrain to avoid the heels of CHUCKA DUMMY, ridden by Jockey C. Lennon, which was carried outwards by EYES ARE LION, ridden by Jockey R. Wiggins, which resented being struck the whip and commenced to lay out despite its efforts from its rider in straightening and MISHANI TYCOON, ridden by Jockey A. Sewell, which laid inwards when placed under pressure. After taking evidence from all riders involved and viewing the available patrol footage, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that any one rider was fault for the interference and stewards reported it as a racing incident.

EYES ARE LION – Shifted out on jumping, hampering BETHEHORSE. Commenced to lay out over the concluding stages when struck by the whip and carried CHUCKA DUMMY outwards.

KARAKAROO – Jumped away awkwardly hampering BETHEHORSE.

SEA MUD 'N' SUN – Bumped on jumping by ONOMATOPOEIA which shifted in.

BETHEHORSE – Hampered on jumping by EYES OF LION which shifted out. Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

MISHANI TWILIGHT – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event.

MISHANI TYCOON – Raced wide in the early stages of the event. Laid in when placed under pressure across ONOMATOPOEIA which had to steady near the 50m.


Race 5: LEADING JOCKEY RYAN WIGGINS HANDICAP 1300M

OLD KINGSTON – Jumped away awkwardly.

ZOUVILLA – Slow into stride. Severely checked off the heels of FRATELLINO which was dictating inwards by KOBE ROCKS (NZ) and as a result blundered approaching the 1050m. Apprentice D. McGillivray pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) in that approaching the 1050m, Apprentice D. McGillivray, the rider of KOBE ROCKS (NZ), allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of FRATELLINO which was dictated inwards across ZOUVILLA which was severely check and blundered. Apprentice D. McGillivray’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence midnight 28th September 2023 to conclude midnight 8th October 2023.

FRATELLINO – Bumped on jumping by INVINCIBLE JET. Had to restrain after being dictated inwards approaching the 1050m when KOBE ROCKS (NZ) shifted in.

KOBE ROCKS (NZ) – Shifted in approaching the 1050m, dictating FRATELLINO inwards.

INVINCIBLE JET – Shifted out on jumping, bumping FRATELLINO.


Race 6: LEADING APPRENTICE TAHLIA FENL BM65 HANDICAP 1050M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered a protest by Jockey A. Sewell, the rider of third placegetter KAHAYLAAN, against the winner FLYING SHAMUS, ridden by Apprentice B. Johnson, alleging interference in the final 100m. After considering submissions from the riders, trainers and taking into account the available patrol footage it was determined that leaving the 100m, FLYING SHAMUS had shifted out under pressure and KAHAYLAAN had to slightly steady and alter course inwards. Bearing in mind the manner in which both runners finished to the line and the beaten margin, stewards could not be satisfied that the degree of interference warranted overturning the judge’s decision, therefore the protest was dismissed, and correct weight was declared.

KAHAYLAAN – Had to slightly steady and shift inwards to obtain clear racing room when FLYING SHAMUS laid out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages. Apprentice B. Johnson was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for allowing her mount to shift out over the concluding stages.

KNOCKKNEE – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

CHAMELEON CHOICE – Upon returning to scale, Jockey R. Wiggins stated that his mount felt flat over the concluding stages of the event. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormalities.

VAPORIZING – Jumped away awkwardly.

DENIMS – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

FLYING SHAMUS – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.

NEWITT – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.

SINGLE HONOUR – Raced wide throughout the event.


Race 7: CLASSIC RACEDAY SAT 30TH SEPT BM55 HANDICAP 1200M

REAL KEY – Raced wide early in the early stages of the event. Commenced to overrace near the 700m. Bumped with MATERIAL MISTRESS near the 500m. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

MCNAIR (NZ) – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

BOLD ZIP – Slow to begin. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

TRACK TALE – Raced wide in the early stages of the event. When questioned regarding today’s poor performance, Apprentice M. Apel stated that her mount felt flat throughout. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. When also questioned regarding today’s performance, Trainer R. Vale could offer no explanation regarding the performance however advised TRACK TALE will undergo blood tests in the coming days and will advise Stewards of any abnormalities that may arise. A post-race sample was collected.

SUPER VOGUE – Raced in restricted room near the 550m. Raced in restricted room near the 100m before electing to shift out to obtain clear racing room.

SWEET FANTASY – Stood flat footed on jumping. Trainer K Hansen was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s record.

MATERIAL MISTRESS – Raced in restricted room near the 500m and bumped with REAL KEY. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

PRIVATE SECTOR – Reluctant to load prior to jumping. Overraced in the early stages of the event. Raced in restricted room near the 150m.
