The following overweight was approved by stewards:
Race 4. Sean Cormack – +1kg
Race 7. Justin Stanley - +1kg
As apprentice N Olzard was unable to attend today’s meeting due to personal reasons, a replacement rider in race 6 was approved by stewards as per the steward’s race day summary.
Trainer L Manzelmann was fined $100 for failing to scratch dually accepted RUBUNKER from one of the races by the prescribed time. When considering penalty, stewards were mindful of the time that RUBUNKER was scratched and Trainer Manzelmann’s good record in relation to the rule.
The following runners all underwent pre-race veterinary inspections after having competed within the previous seven days and were cleared to start:

RACE 1: SKY RACING MAIDEN PLATE (1050 METRES)
DIAMOND BLADE – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages.
JOYOUS STEPS – Was fractious in the barriers and reared prior to jumping. Subsequently underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Shifted inwards on jumping tightening MAGIC TYLA. Trainer T Simmons was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record for its barrier manners.
HUSTLER'S AMBITION – Shifted outwards on jumping tightening MAGIC TYLA.
SECRET BOOM – Over raced in the early stages. Improved onto the heels of HUSTLER’S AMBITION whist over racing near the 800m and had to be restrained. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. When questioned in relation to the seemingly improved performance, jockey A Butler stated that the gelding was first up today for some time and in a most recent trial, SECRET BOOM had shown improvement since last preparation however the stable where not expecting such a strong showing today. Stewards noted the comments.
LADY DE VEGA – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout.
MAGIC TYLA – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground when HUSTLER’S AMBITION shifted out and JOYOUS STEPS shifted inwards.
MISSIN' DE QUO – Over raced in the early stages and had to be restrained on a number of occasions. Jockey J Taylor was fined $500 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for his use of the whip 9 times prior to the 100m and 10 times in totality. When considering penalty stewards where mindful that jockey Taylor has had no breaches under this rule in the preceding six months and the QRIC whip penalty guidelines.
HEY JEALOUSY – Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 2: BOOK EVENT CENTRE FOR EVENTS CLASS 3 PLATE (1560 METRES)
JUPITUS – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
COMBATTANT DE RUE – Raced wide until 1300m. Commenced to weaken near the 800m and took no further competitive part in the event. When questioned in relation to the performance, jockey A Sewell stated that his mount had never travelled at any stage throughout the event. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities. Trainer K Russell was advised that COMBATTANT DE RUE would be stood pending an official trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again due to being uncompetitive.
OUR TURN NOW (NZ) -
HEARSAY – Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 800m for a short distance to avoid the weakening COMBATTANT DE RUE. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
MOON OVER MATILDA – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
MOMENT OF TRUTH – Raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned in relation to the performance, jockey W Satherley stated that his mount travelled well during the early stages however when asked for an effort near the 600m, the mare failed to respond. Trainer K Smyth added when questioned that in his opinion MOMENT OF TRUTH may have raced flat in today’s event and further added that he would consider sending the mare for a spell. Trainer Smyth was advised to report to stewards on the condition of the mare in the coming days.
RACE 3: LADBROKES SAME RACE MULTI BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1560 METRES)
MONEY MAN – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
SOUTHAVEN – Jumped away awkwardly. Elected to shift outwards near the 200m to obtain clear racing room.
ALL POWERED UP – Shifted outwards on jumping, bumping WELL RESTED and shortly afterwards shifted inwards and impeded MISHANI PERFECTION. Raced wide until obtaining a position outside the leader near the 1100m. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey A Sewell stated that he could not offer an explanation for the overall performance, however stated in his opinion the gelding may have raced flat. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities. Trainer I Shaw was advised that a warning would be placed on ALL POWERED UP’s record for its poor performance.
REMLAP KAVA – Slow to begin. When asked for a comment on the performance, apprentice E Molloy stated that she was disappointed with the overall performance and added that her mount travelled well however failed to let down at any stage when asked to.
SADDLES – Jumped outwards at the start bumping MISHANI PERFECTION. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
MISHANI PERFECTION – Bumped and impeded shortly after the start when SADDLES shifted out and ALL POWERED UP shifted inwards. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. When asked for a comment on the seemingly improved performance, trainer K Russell stated that MISHANI PERFECTION is better suited racing over further distances, in comparison to its most recent start, where the mare has time to be allowed to build momentum over the final stages. Trainer Russell further added that the addition of winkers proved beneficial to the mare’s overall chances today.
QUEENBEEL (NZ) – Jumped away awkwardly. Commenced to over race upon entering the course proper near the 1400m for a short distance.
WELL RESTED – Bumped on jumping by ALL POWERED UP. When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted in allowing his mount to obtain a position of distance clear of the remainder of the field in the middle stages, jockey W D’Avila stated that his instructions were to obtain a position in the lead and allow WELL RESTED to settle where comfortable. Jockey D’Avila added that once obtaining the lead, he allowed his mount to race along without attempting to restrain as WELL RESTED races one paced and often fails to quicken when asked upon. Jockey D’Avila further added that these tactics were similar to those adopted at its most recent start, however in his opinion, believes that the mare may not be suited racing over similar distances as that of the race today. Stewards noted the comments.
RACE 4: MACKAY CLASSIC QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
KRACKACAN – Raced ungenerously in the early stages. Apprentice M Apel was harmlessly dislodged upon pulling up after the race.
DON'TDOUBTHELADY -
TEN PINS – Shifted inwards on jumping, impeding NEV. Raced keenly in the early stages.
NEV – Slow to begin and impeded shortly after by TEN PINS which shifted inwards.
WHO ASKED ZOU – Shifted outwards abruptly on jumping, resulting in jockey C McIver becoming unbalanced. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. When asked for a comment on the performance, jockey C McIver stated that his mount raced greenly throughout the event and proved quite difficult to ride out. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised that WHO ASKED ZOU would be required to official trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again due to its racing manners.
FABULEAN – Over raced onto the heels of DON’TDOUBTTHELADY near the 900 and had to be restrained.
LOUIS AUGUSTE - Slow into stride. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised that a warning would be placed on LOUIS AUGUSTE’s record for its poor performance.
RACE 5: BOOK FOR AMATEUR CUP SATURDAY 24TH MAY BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
DAIMYO (JPN) – Blundered on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned in relation to the performance, jockey A Butler stated that DAIMYO (JPN) may not have handled the step up in distance today, and when asked for an effort in the straight the gelding failed to respond. Trainer N Walsh advised that in his opinion the gelding may have choked down in running and that it was intention to experiment with gear prior to its next race start.
UPSTART LEGEND – Raced wide in the early stages.
BEPPE – Jumped away awkwardly. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
AIDENABET – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Upon returning to scale, jockey J Murphy stated that AIDENABET’s tendency to lay inwards proved difficult in allowing him to fully test his mount out over the final stages.
ANSWERING – Raced wide until obtaining a position outside the leader near the 900m.
RACE 6: LADBROKES FORM GENIUS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
WELL HELD – When asked for a comment on the performance, jockey J Stanley stated that he was not overly disappointed in the performance as WELL HELD was having its first start since January, further adding that the gelding would derive significant benefit and fitness from today’s run where it will allowing the gelding to better performance over further distances where its is better suited towards.
FRASER'S RIDGE – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid inward when placed under pressure in the home straight.
UNDER THE SHADOW – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.
LOOMING LEGEND – Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
VALENTINO MISS – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages.
RACE 7: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE OPEN HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
STAMPE – When asked for a comment on the performance, jockey A Butler stated that STAMPE never travelled at any stage in the event and that the gelding did not feel comfortable throughout. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to be displaying cardiac arrythmia. Trainer L Horstman was advised that STAMPE would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of ECG results prior to galloping satisfactorily of at least 1000 Metres followed by a cardiac auscultation performed by a veterinarian within 15 minutes of completion of the gallop.
SIR ROCKET – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
SUNNYCOAST – Raced wide until obtaining the lead position near the 900m. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight and had to be straightened on a number of occasions.
CABALO ESCURO – Slow to begin.
MAJOR ARTIE – Slow to begin.
GRAND DE LAGO – Elected to shift outwards near the 500m to obtain clear racing room. Approaching the 200m, disappointed for a run and had to be steadied from the heels of FOR VALOUR.
BRAD – Slow into stride. Had to be restrained when over racing onto the heels of MAJOR ARTIE near the 600m. Held up for clear running until a point near the 200m and elected to shift outwards to obtain clear racing room.
RUBUNKAR – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
FOR VALOUR - Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid outwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 8: RACING AGAIN THURSDAY 8TH MAY RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)
UNIVERSAL HARMONY – Laid outwards when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
DETERMINATION – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
ME TIME – Raced wide throughout.
ENCROACHMENT – Jumped away awkwardly and shortly after the started was impeded by TORQUE OF DREAMS which stepped in after being buffeted between runners.
MISS DE BOOM – Bumped with TORQUE OF DREAMS shortly jumping. Commenced to hang in shortly after the start and had to be restrained from the heels of multiple runners on a number of occasions throughout the event, most notably at a point near the 600m where the mare had to be checked from the heels of DETERMINATION. Trainer D Johnstone was advised that MISS DE BOOM would be required to official trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again for hanging in throughout the event.
TORQUE OF DREAMS – Jumped away awkwardly and shortly after the started was buffeted between MISS DE BOOM and ISSHEGREY, losing ground and stepping inwards impeding ENCROACHMENT. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
ISSHEGREY – Shifted inwards on jumping, buffeting TORQUE OF DREAMS. Raced wide throughout.
RED BEAUTY – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. Upon returning to scale, jockey J Murphy reported that RED BEAUTY travelled well in the early stages, however from a point near the 600m, the filly failed to respond to his riding urges. Jockey Murphy also stated that at a point near the 500m, the filly took an awkward step which resulted in his mount losing some momentum. Jockey J Murphy was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out fully to the finish.
