SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

ROCKHAMPTON 22/4/2025
Race 7 - LJ Hooker Rockhampton BM70 Handicap (1200 METRES)

PARADE GROUND – Trainer Ricky Vale reported to stewards after conducting blood tests that the results showed signs of a throat infection, he further advised that he has sent further blood tests and would reassess the preparation following these results.


GENERAL

As jockey Ryan Wiggins was not riding at today’s meeting due to injury stewards approved rider replacements as per the race day summary.

As jockey Ashley Butler was stood down for a medical at Tuesday’s Townsville meeting he was examined by QAS prior to the running of race 1 and was cleared to fulfil his engagements.

Stewards approved the following overweights:

Race 3 – LOLLIES – Jockey R Stewart +0.5kg
Race 4 – SPIRITED – Jockey R Stewart +0.5kg

The following horses underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after competing on Saturday the 3rd of May: RISING RUBY & DEEPSTRIKE (NZ).

Both trainers R Vale and C Taylor were reprimanded under the provisions of LR36(6) for failing to scratch their runners FLYING MAPLE and HENRY’S BLADE (NZ) from all but one of their engaged races by the prescribed time.


RACE 1: SKY RACING MAIDEN HANDICAP (1300 M)

JOYOUS STEPS – Was fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly and shifted inwards, bumping GLAD RAG DOLL, and as a result was slow into stride. Contacted by LOUIS AUGUSTE near the 200m when thar runner laid out.

REMLAP KAVA – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

MAGIC TYLA – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Upon pulling up post-race, jockey A Sewell was harmlessly dislodged and MAGIC TYLA was captured shortly after in the mounting yard. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no significant abnormalities.

LOUIS AUGUSTE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Commenced to lay out near the 200m and made contact with JOYOUS STEPS.

FIRE SPHERE – Slow to begin. Elected to shift wider to improve at a point near the 600m. Held up in the early stages of the home straight and elected to shift wider near the 200m to obtain clear racing room.

GLAD RAG DOLL – Bumped by JOYOUS STEPS when that runner shifted outwards shortly after the start. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Following this race, the track was upgraded to a GOOD 4.


RACE 2: BOOK EVENT CENTRE FOR FUNCTIONS OPEN HANDICAP (1560 M)

FAROOQ – Slow to begin. Upon returning to scale, jockey A Butler reported that FAROOQ would be better suited racing over further distances and would derive benefit from today’s run. Post-race it was reported to stewards that the gelding lost its left fore shoe. Underwent a veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to be showing signs of lameness in the left foreleg. Trainer’s representative J Doolan was advised that FAROOQ would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again

STAMPEDE WARRIOR – Blundered on jumping and as a result was slow into stride.

FOR VALOUR – When asked to comment on the improved performance, trainer L Wright stated that FOR VALOUR had gained significant fitness over its previous starts and had been working well in the lead up to today’s event. Trainer Wright further added that the step up in distance proved beneficial to the gelding’s overall chances and connections were expecting a more forward showing.

CABALO ESCURO – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Elected to shift wider in an attempt to improve a point near the 500m.

MOKTAFFY (IRE) – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

DEEPSTRIKE (NZ) – Refused to jump and was extremely slow to leave the barriers and as a result was retired from the event in the early stages after having no contact with the remainder of the field. Apprentice E Molloy reported to stewards that DEEPSTRIKE (NZ) resented the tongue-tie. Trainer’s representative J Doolan was advised that DEEPSTRIKE (NZ) would be stood down to an official trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.

AIDENABET – Inclined to hang in during the early stages of the home straight.


RACE 3: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (1100 M)

The start of this race was delayed approximately 4 minutes when SUPID DATE dislodged its rider and galloped a distance and made heavy contact with the fence in the 1560m chute before being captured by the clerk of the course.

DRAGON TALES – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards abruptly, making heavy contact with MONTANA EXPRESS, carrying that runner outwards across the heels of SOOVITA. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

PRECISE TORQUE – Over raced in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

PROFITS PRAYER – Shifted inwards on jumping, bumping FABULEAN. Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide until obtaining a position outside the lead near the 800m.

FABULEAN – Shifted outwards on jumping, bumping PROFITS PRAYER. Leaving the 600m, had to severely check and lose its rightful run when SOOVITA shifted inwards when insufficiently clear. Apprentice B Johnson (SOOVITA) subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) for allowing her mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of FABULEAN. Apprentice Johnson’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days, with the suspension to commence midnight 13th May 2025 and to conclude midnight 26th May 2025. In determining penalty, stewards took into consideration apprentice Johnson’s guilty plea, previous record, and the QRIC careless riding template.

LOLLIES – Began awkwardly, making contact with the outside barrier partition.

MONTANA EXPRESS – Heavily contacted by DRAGON TALES which shifted outwards abruptly at the start, and was carried out across the heels of SOOVITA, making contact with the hindquarters of that runner and losing ground. Over raced in the early stages. Upon returning to scale, jockey N Thomas reported that MONTANA EXPRESS did not travel comfortably throughout the event. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer L Hatch was advised to report to stewards in the filly’s condition in the subsequent days.

SOOVITA – Was bumped in the hindquarters by MONTANA EXPRESS which was carried outwards shortly after the start.

HEROIC TALENT – Over raced in the early stages. Held up for clear running in the home straight until a point near the 250m.

SUPID DATE – Was declared a late scratching at 1:39pm by order of stewards after dislodging its rider enroute to the barriers and commencing to gallop a distance and making heavy contact with the fence in the 1560m chute before being captured by the clerk of the course. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards order that all bets placed on SUPID DATE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:

0 cents in the dollar for the winner (LOLLIES)
1 cent in the dollar for the place of the winner (LOLLIES)
2 cents in the dollar for second place (PROFITS PRAYER)
3 cents in the dollar for third place (HEROIC TALENT)

Underwent a post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities Trainer J Manzelmann was advised that a warning would be placed on SUPID DATE’s record for its pre-race manners.


RACE 4: BOOK FOR AMATEUR CUP SATURDAY 24TH MAY QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (1100 M)

CAPRICORNUS – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice M Apel stated that CAPRICORNUS did not begin as well as anticipated in comparison to recent starts. Apprentice Apel added that the gelding was inclined to hang in rounding the home turn and failed to let down in the home straight, and in her opinion raced flat throughout the event. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

SECRET BOOM – Shifted inwards on jumping, bumping the hindquarters of LITTLE IFFY. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

DIAMOND CODE – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.

I'M STELLAR – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

LITTLE IFFY – Bumped with RISING RUBY on jumping and shortly after the start, was bumped in the hindquarters by SECRET BOOM which shifted inwards.

NEVADA SUN – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey J Stanley reported that due to the wide barrier draw and the fast tempo in the early stages of the event, NEVADA SUN had to settle further back in the field that anticipated. Jockey Stanley further added that the filly raced greenly throughout and was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn, however stated that he was not overly disappointed in the filly’s overall performance and that NEVADA SUN would gain significant benefit from today’s run. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the filly to be lame in the left foreleg. Trainer C Taylor was advised that NEVADA SUN would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

RISING RUBY – Bumped with LITTLE IFFY on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages and had to restrain off the heels of DIAMOND CODE near the 900m. Was momentarily inconvenienced by DIAMOND CODE which laid out near the 250m. A post-race examination revealed the filly to have lost its right hind shoe in running.

SPIRITED – Jockey R Stewart was fined $500 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 9 times prior to the 100m, 10 in total. In determining penalty, stewards took into consideration jockey Stewart’s previous record and the QRIC whip penalty template.


RACE 5: LADBROKES SAME RACE MULTI BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1050 M)

SIGHTSEER – Over raced in the early and middle stages and had to be restrained from heels on multiple occasions.

HENRY'S BLADE (NZ) – Commenced to lay in and placed BEPPE in restricted room for a number of strides, resulting in that runner being carried inwards bumping FLYING MAPLE near the 900m. Raced wide until obtaining a position outside the lead near the 750m.

DEVIL DEVIL – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages.

JUKEBOX LUCY (NZ) – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.

BEPPE – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early states. Raced wide throughout. Near the 900m was placed in restricted room by HENRY’S BLADE (NZ) for a number of strides which laid inwards, and as a result was carried in by that runner, bumping FLYING MAPLE. Jockey R Stewart was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for allowing his mount to shift inwards when not fully clear.

FLYING MAPLE – Bumped by BEPPE which was carried inwards by HENRY’S BLADE (NZ) near the 900m. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide throughout.


RACE 6: LADBROKES FORM SURGE CLASS 3 PLATE (1200 M)

CANNY BE BETTER – Raced keenly in the early stages.

NOLAN – Raced wide throughout. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Near the 50m, put in an awkward stride and stepped outwards, bumping RAINBOW CONNECTION.

RAINBOW CONNECTION – Slow to begin. Elected to shift wider near the 600m in an attempt to improve. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Bumped by NOLAN which stepped outwards near the 50m.

GANGITANO – Was fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly.

MISHANI AVIATOR – Was fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.


RACE 7: LADBROKES SAME RACE MULTI BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP (1200 M)

BOOMING LAD – Over raced in the early and middle stages.

DIVINE OKAY – Began awkwardly. Dislodged apprentice E Molloy near the 1000m. Stewards intend to inquiry into the circumstances regarding apprentice E Molloy being dislodged shortly after the start at a later date and time to be fixed. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed a superficial wound on the right hindleg and to be lame in the left foreleg. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised that DIVINE OKAY would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Apprentice E Molloy was assessed on the on-course QAS Officers for a possible elbow/arm injury and was taken to the hospital for further assessment. Ms Molloy was advised that she would require a medical clearance and a satisfactory cognitive test prior to returning to riding

ENABLER – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

BRAD – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Had to check and shift outwards to avoid the dislodged rider near the 1000m.

FLYING SHAMUS – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

FROM THIS MOMENT – Slow into stride. Had to check and shift outwards to avoid the dislodged rider near the 1000m.

LAST DITCH EFFORT – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.


Race 8: RACING AGAIN SATURDAY 24TH MAY QTIS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP (1300 M)

The start of this race was delayed until 5:10pm following the fall in the previous race. The race was further delayed until 5:20pm when the replacement ambulance arrival was delayed.

ISHOTTHEDEPUTY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Elected to shift wider near the 500m in an attempt to improve.

HOTCHI – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey R Stewart stated that his mount had travelled well in the early stages and had responded to his riding in the early stages of the home straight, however commenced to weaken over the final stages and proved disappointing. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer R Vale was advised to report to stewards on the gelding’s condition in the days subsequent.

ROTHFURY – Buffeted shortly after the start.

SENSATIONABULL – Was declared a late scratching at 5:17pm on veterinary advice at the barriers after an examination revealed the gelding to be lameness in the fore. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards order that all bets placed on SENSATIONABULL be refunded with the following deductions to apply:

3 cents in the dollar for the winner (ME TIME)
3 cents in the dollar for the place of the winner (ME TIME)
2 cents in the dollar for second place (ROTHFURY)
6 cents in the dollar for third place (ZELEZNY)

Trainer J Manzelmann was advised that SENSATIONABULL would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

HEARSAY – Held up for clear racing room until a point near the 200m.

FANCIFUL MR FOX – Raced keenly in the early stages.

DIAMOND DEGREE – Bumped with WELL RESTED on jumping.

WELL RESTED – Bumped with DIAMOND DEGREE on jumping. Elected to shift wider near the 500m in an attempt to improve. Jockey R Silvera Olivera was fined $100 under the provisions of AR211(1) for weighing in excess of 0.5kg overweight.
