BO BO BEWARE – Bumped with YUKANUMA on jumping.
RACE 2: VALE JOHN HUNTER MAIDEN PLATE 1050M
Correct weight was delayed to hear a protest lodged by jockey G Cartwright, the rider of 2nd place getter BIG DEMEANOR, against the winner ZAYA, ridden by jockey J Murphy, alleging interference over the final 100m. After taking into consideration evidence from the relevant parties and viewing the available patrol footage, stewards were of the opinion that over the final 100m, ZAYA commenced to shift outwards to a point near the 50m where it brushed with BIG DEMEANOR. When considering the level of interference, how both runners finished off the race, the beaten margin and the proximity to the winning post, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that should the interference had not occurred BIG DEMEANOR would have won the race and as such, dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the judge’s placings.
BIG DEMEANOR – Heavily bumped by RAVENITE which shifted inwards on jumping. Elected to shift wider near the 500m in an attempt to improve. Laid in when placed under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.

Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Upon returning to scale, jockey S Cormack reported that he had difficulty pushing RAVENITE out fully to the finish due to it being inclined to lay in the home straight.

Had to momentarily steady from the heels of DIAMOND DEGREE which shifted outwards over the final stages. Apprentice T Fenlon (DIAMOND DEGREE) was reminded of her obligations in ensuring she is clear of runners when allowing her mounts to shift ground in future. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainers’ representative A Coome was advised of the provisions of AR79(4) in that STREET GOD would be stood down from racing for a period of 3 months and would be required to trial / jump-out or gallop 1000m in the presence of stewards prior to resuming racing. I SAY BOOM – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.
NICKELBACK – Restrained shortly after the start to obtain a position closer to the rail. Stewards conducted an inquiry into the whip action of Jockey R Wiggins to determine whether the whip was used in a manner forward of the shoulder. Upon questioning, jockey Wiggins stated that when racing in close proximity to MAGIC GAME, which shifted outwards, to avoid striking jockey Stanley or his mount, he adjusted his whip action to a forward motion, ensuring no contact was made with his own mount. After viewing the available replays, stewards identified that following the adjusted whip action, there was no discernible flexion to the whip, indicating that the whip did not make contact with NICKELBACK. Considering jockey Wiggins’ explanation and the replays, stewards were satisfied that no breach had occurred and took no further action.
MAGIC GAME – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Held up for clear racing room in the home straight and near the 200m, improved into restricted room and had to restrain from the heels of NINE CARATS.

Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.
RUBUNKAR – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey J Murphy stated that the work RUBUNKAR endured in the early stages from the wide barrier draw proved detrimental, and over the final stages, the gelding failed to respond to his riding urges and went to the line disappointingly. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.
MOENAVE – Slow to begin. Held up for clear racing room in the home straight until a point near the 200m.
YOUR TOO GOOD – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
