Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 1 – Jockey Adin Thompson +0.5kg
Race 1 – Jockey Sean Cormack +1kg
Race 6 – Jockey Adin Thompson +0.5kg
Race 6 – Jockey Adam Sewell +0.5kg
Race 7 – Jockey Adam Sewell +0.5kg
 
Trainer Z Hohn was fined $100 under LR36(6)(a) for failing to scratch the dual accepted BO BO BEWARE out of one of the races, by the prescribed time. When considering penalty stewards were mindful of Ms Hohn’s guilty plea and prior record under this rule.
 
Jockey A Thompson was fined $200 under AR190(3) for accepting rides on TORERA and DIVINE OKAY when found to be overweight and was replaced as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 

RACE 1: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE MAIDEN HANDICAP         1300 M

EXTREMELY FRILLY – Began awkwardly. Eased from heels near the 600m.
 
RUM RUNNER (NZ) – Slow to begin. Approaching the 600m improved onto the heels CHIARO DI LUNA and had to be momentarily eased.
 
STRAZ DANZ – Over raced in the early and middle stages when wide on the track.
 
GONCALO – Impeded on jumping and was slow to begin. Apprentice L Martyn when questioned regarding the performance stated that after receiving interference at the start the gelding failed to stretch out fully in the run and may have jarred up. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
 
MISS COMANECI – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey A Sewell, when questioned regarding the improved performance stated that the most recent start of the mare was not overly disappointing after luckless run and today after having a good run in transit was able to perform better.
 
ONLY ONE LOOK – Shifted in on jumping and bumped with TORERA. Eased from heels near the 600m. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CHECK ONE TWO – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T Cook advised that he was of the view that the mare may not have appreciated the firmer track conditions after racing wide throughout from a poor barrier. Mr Cook further advised that he would reassess whether the current preparation would be continued depending on how CHECK ONE TWO recovers from today’s race.
 
TORERA – Jockey J Taylor was approved as the late rider replacement for A Thompson who was unable to make weight. Began awkwardly and bumped by ONLY ONE LOOK. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
ARIK LAD – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CHIARO DI LUNA – Bounded on jumping. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Jockey C McIver was reminded of his obligation when reducing the pace near the 600m which resulted in trailing runner being inconvenienced.
 


RACE 2: BOOK FOR CLASSIC DAY SAT 27TH 0 - 55 HANDICAP         1300 M

RICH DIVINITY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ROTHWEILER – Raced wide early before obtaining the lead near the 1000m. Raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned regarding the apparent disappointing performance, jockey A Butler stated that despite racing wide initially the gelding was not pressured or required to endure work and then failed to travel or respond to his riding efforts from the 600m onwards and proved to be very disappointing. When questioned in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance trainer L Wright stated that he was at a loss to explain the performances in the most recent starts, since winning first up for the stable, he further added that he intends to reconsider the immediate racing future of the gelding within his stable. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
 
CHALKLEY – Began awkwardly.
 
WHAT A WEEKEND – Began very awkwardly and was slow into stride as a result.
 
MADAM BORODINA – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
THORMENDOUS MISS – Jumped outwards at the start and impeded SILVERADO MISS. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
SILVERADO MISS – Impeded at the start and was slow into stride as a result.
 


RACE 3: LEADING TRAINER 2025 CLINTON TAYLOR BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1300 M

TURN BIRD – Began awkwardly. Trainer S Royes, when questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance stated that the geldings first run up from a spell on 6 July 2025 was meritorious and then was not suited by the softer track conditions at its next start. The trainer added that returning to a firmer surface today proved to be beneficial along with a drop in class.
 
CHICKERARTIE – Raced wide early before obtaining the lead near the 1100m. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
DEALING'S DONE – Slow into stride. Raced keenly in the early stages. Bumped with OUTBACK BANDIT near the 200m.
 
OUTBACK BANDIT – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 200m bumped with DEALING’S DONE. Jockey A Thompson, when questioned regarding the performance, stated that the gelding raced in a dour manner after beginning poorly and proved to be disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
 
BETTER THAN WORDS – Apprentice L Martyn, when questioned regarding the performance stated the mare travelled well during the run, however when placed under pressure entering the home straight failed to run on as expected. Miss Martyn further explained that BETTER THAN WORDS did settle closer than in recent starts due to the small field which may have had a bearing.
 
LADY MASQUERADE – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 

RACE 4: LEADING JOCKEY 2025 ASHLEY BUT CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1560M

The start of this race was delayed slightly and CEASAR (NZ) was removed from the barriers to ensure the gelding was wearing only approved gear. Once stewards were able to confirm the gear fitted was correct the gelding was reloaded.
 
 
COUNTER (GB) – Bumped on jumping with CEASAR (NZ).
 
RAETIHI (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
CEASAR (NZ) – Shifted out on jumping and bumped with COUNTER. Raced keenly around the turn near the 1400m and was restrained from the heels of THE PENSKE FILE. Inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight.
 
GENERAL HIPPO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SMOOTH TORQUE – Apprentice T Fenlon reported that her mount was inclined to lay in throughout.
 
MAGIC GAME – Very slow to begin. Shifted wide to improve forward leaving the 800m. Jockey S Cormack explained that after progressing forwards leaving the 800m the mare came off the bridle and never travelled well from the 600m onwards. The jockey further added that despite being forced wider entering the home straight, the mare proved to be disappointing. Trainer C Taylor advised that he will reconsider the future of MAGIC GAME within his stable.
 
SPRING VALLEY – Began awkwardly.
 
THE PENSKE FILE – Slow into stride. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 


RACE 5: LEADING APPRENTICE 2025 MCKENZIE APEL BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1100M

WOODSTOCK ROCK – Jockey R Wiggins pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on 8 occasions prior to the 100m and 16 times in total. Mr Wiggins license was subsequently suspended for 8 days to commence midnight 12 August 2025 until Midnight 20august 2025.
 
UNCUT GEM – Shifted wider entering the home straight to obtain clear running. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MATTEI – Slow into stride. Raced keenly in the early stages. Momentarily inconvenienced entering the home straight when CRIMSON DECIPHER shifted outwards.
 
THE KRONE – Began awkwardly.
 
AMBERINGER – Slow into stride.
 
QUERIDA – Jockey S Cormack reported that his mount did not stretch out fully over the concluding stages so he did ride out fully to the finish. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
 
CRIMSON DECIPHER – Slow into stride. Raced keenly in the early stages. Entering the home straight, shifted outwards momentarily and inconvenienced MATTEI.
 


RACE 6: HORSE OF THE YEAR BOOMING LAD OPEN HANDICAP 1200M

 
GO GETABOY – Trainer S Royes, when questioned regarding the improved performance of his runner stated, that the gelding won a no-race last start and today’s performance was consistent with that effort and not unexpected by the stable.
 
OUTBACK ACTION – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide in the early stages. Trainer L Manzelmann, when questioned in relation to the improved performance stated that the horse had been racing very competitive in recent starts prior to a disappointing performance over 2000m last start. The trainer further added that the gelding had been freshened up in recent weeks and a forward showing was expected.
 
 
THISLAND IS MYLAND – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
DIVINE OKAY – Jockey C McIver was approved as the late rider replacement for A Thompson who was unable to make weight. Began awkwardly.
 
SUCH A WHIT – Was eased down by its rider over the concluding stages in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the right foreleg and the gelding has now been stood down pending a satisfactory trial and a veterinary clearance.
 
POET'S DAY – Bounded in the air on jumping and was slow to begin as a result. Over raced in the early stages.
 
BOLD HUNTER – Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously in the early stages when attempting to obtain cover. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
GALBALAN – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages.
 
MASTER MONTARO – Raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned with regards to leading and the performance of her mount, apprentice M Apel stated that MASTER MONTARO raced and travelled comfortably, despite pressure from OUTBACK ACTION in the middle stages, however failed to quicken when asked for an effort in the home straight. Ms Apel further added that it is the intention of connections to give the gelding a freshen up.
 
 

RACE 7: RACING AGAIN THURS 4TH SEPTEMBER BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1800M

 
GREGARIOUS – Began Awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
MORDECAI – Began Awkwardly.
 
VANCOUVER BAY – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
EL OF A SENORITA – Jockey R Wiggins was unable to offer any tangible reason for the performance. Trainer C Taylor will be contacted in the following days regarding the mares post-race recovery.
 
BELLA TIVACI (NZ) – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages and was corrected by the rider in close proximity to the finish.
 
TRIGGERIFIC – Began Awkwardly. Raced wide early before obtaining the lead near the 1300m. Commenced to tire from the 800m and was beaten more than 20 lengths at the finish. When questioned in relation to the poor performance jockey A Thompson stated that the fast tempo set in the early stages may have proved detrimental over the concluding stages, despite this proved very disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised that a warning would be issued against the gelding due to a poor performance, in not taking further action stewards were mindful of TRIGGERIFIC’s recent competitive form.
 
CARACRISTI – Bumped with TORQUE ESPAGNA at the start.
 
ALL POWERED UP – Began Awkwardly. Gave ground over the final stages and was beaten approximately 20 lengths at the finish. Trainer I Shaw was advised that a warning has been placed on the record of the gelding for being uncompetitive.
 
TORQUE ESPAGNA – Began Awkwardly and bumped with CARACRISTI, losing ground as a result.
