Apprentice Orr advised that there was minimal contact in this incident. Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Apprentice Orr stated that his horse’s chances were materially affected by the poor start. Trainer J Wigginton was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

Race 3: SILK LASER CLINICS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1300M

RAETIHI (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages when racing outside the leader.

RIDEAU – Raced keenly in the early stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. When questioned regarding the performance, rider A Butler stated it was the intention to ride the gelding forward which is consistent with its usual racing pattern, however after beginning only fairly, RIDEAU was beaten for early speed and as a result settled further back than anticipated and failed to travel well at any stage in the run. Rider Butler added that when placed under pressure leaving the 500 metres, his mount failed to respond to his efforts and ran home disappointingly. Rider Butler also stated that the 6-week break between starts may have had a bearing on the effort today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Race 5: EXECUTIVE LIVING HOMES CLASS 3 PLATE 1560M

MORDECAI – Slow into stride. Bumped on jumping. Inclined to over-race in the back straight.

CHAPARRAL CHASE – Hung out noticeably leaving the 600 metres and for the majority of the home straight. Held up for clear racing room in the early part of the home straight behind the tiring MICROWAVE JENNY before shifting across that runner’s heels passing the 200 metres. Rider A Butler reported at scale that his mount failed to travel at any stage and hung out significantly throughout the event which resulted in him being unable to ride his mount over the concluding stages with his usual vigour. Jockey Butler further added that he felt there may have been something amiss with CHAPARRAL CHASE. Trainer’s representative A Coome expressed disappointment with the gelding’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

NAPA VALLEY – Slow into stride.

MICROWAVE JENNY – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Hung outwards in the home straight when yielding ground. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today, rider Jackson Murphy explained that he was given no specific instructions but felt that the mare may settle in a midfield or slightly further forward position, however after beginning quickly, MICROWAVE JENNY was able to find the lead comfortably and when challenged by MAYOR OF KINGSTON near the 1100 metres, his mount began to over-race and he attempted to restrain in an attempt to give his mount some respite. Rider Murphy added that as a consequence of over racing, this proved detrimental to his mounts finishing efforts and he was of the view that a shorter distance would be more suitable.

TORQUE ESPAGNA – Very slow away and when doing so began awkwardly. Trainer L Manzelmann was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s starting manners.

HE'S THE ONE – Raced keenly in the early stages.
