The following overweight was approved by stewards:
Race 5 - Raul Silvera Olivera +1kg
Trainer Ian Prizeman was fined $100 under LR67(1) for failing to declare riders on SVINDAL and SPITZBERG by the prescribed time.
The following runners were examined by the veterinarian after competing in the preceding 7 days and were cleared to start:
Race 1 – BETTY BOOM
Race 5 – MISTERKIPCHOGE (NZ) & REMLAP KAVA
Race 6 – SVINDAL
Race 7 – SPITZBERG
Due to trainer Kevin Miller advising stewards of mechanical issues with his transport vehicle, an extension was granted for the arrival time of his runners, as well as those of trainer Tim Cook, who were being transported in the same vehicle. In making this decision, stewards considered that all race start times had been brought forward (Race 7 – 27 minutes) with minimal notice provided. Upon arrival at the track, all runners were examined by the veterinarian and were cleared to start.
RACE 1:SKY RACING QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1200m
GEM MAKER – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards, bumping with OUTCRY.
HEROIC TALENT – Raced very ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Near the 900m when overracing, had to be steadied and shift outwards to avoid the heels of OUTCRY and as a result was wide for the remainder of the event. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight and was corrected by its rider on a number of occasions.
ROCK ANGEL – Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously in the early stages. Laid outwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed ROCK ANGEL to be shin sore. Trainer Clinton Taylor advised that ROCK ANGEL would be sent for a spell.
BETTY BOOM – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards, bumping I WANT IT ALL. Overraced in the early and middle stages and approaching the 900m had to shift outwards to avoid the heels of GEM MAKER, and as a consequence carried I WANT IT ALL wider on the track.
I WANT IT ALL – Bumped by BETTY BOOM at the start. Near the 900m was carried wider by BETTY BOOM, which was overracing, and as a result raced wide until a point near the 500m. Laid inwards when placed under pressure over the final 200m.
OUTCRY – Began awkwardly and bumped with GEM MAKER. Near the 200m was inconvenienced momentarily for a stride when HEROIC TALENT laid inwards and ROCK ANGEL laid outwards.
RACE 2: LADBROKES HOSTED POTS CLASS 3 PLATE 1200m
The start of this race was delayed due to the late gear changing being required on LUCKY LASS.
RICH DIVINITY – Inconvenienced at the start by LUCKY LASS which shifted outwards. Impeded by MAIKROW (Jockey Georgina Cartwright) which shifted outwards near the 900m, when that runner was racing fiercely, and commenced to overrace thereafter. Jockey Georgina Cartwright was reminded of her obligations to ensure she attempts to restrain her mount in a manner causing impediment or interference to other runners.
EL FORTRESS – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow into stride. Raced wide in the early stages whilst being restrained in an attempt to obtain cover.
SPIRIT OF MAC – Raced keenly in the early stages and had to be restrained to avoid racing onto the heels of LUCKY LASS near the 900m.
MAIKROW – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow into stride. Commenced to race fiercely near the 900m and had shifted outwards to avoid the heels of SPIRIT OF MAC, impeding RICH DIVINITY. Laid inwards when under pressure over the final 100m.
LUCKY LASS – Trainer Rebecca Binder was fined $100 under the provisions of AR106(1) for presenting LUCKY LASS to race with visors instead of blinkers. Shifted outwards at the start, inconveniencing RICH DIVINITY.
RACE 3: LADBROKES BIG BETS COPY NOW QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100m
CHARMING SEAHORSE – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards. Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining the lead position near the 950m.
MISSILE SHOT – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 750m, had to be restrained from the heels of STYLISH DIAMOND when the runner was also restraining from the heels of CHARMING SEAHORSE (apprentice Nikki Olzard) as the pace of the race slackened. Apprentice Nikki Olzard was reminded of her obligations regarding slackening the pace of the race. Inclined to lay outwards under pressure in the home straight.
STYLISH DIAMOND – Was fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly. Shifted outwards and bumped with PIXIE LANE near the 1000m. Near the 750m, improved onto the heels of CHARMING SEAHORSE and had to be restrained when the pace of the race slackened.
PRINCESS KNOWITALL – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
PIXIE LANE – Bumped by STYLISH DIAMOND near the 1000m when that runner shifted outwards and shortly afterwards was placed in restricted room when CHARMING SEAHORSE (apprentice Nikki Olzard) shifted inwards when not fully clear. Apprentice Nikki Olzard was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Laid inwards under pressure in the home straight and near the 350m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MISSLE SHOT.
LONG TALL JAMES – Raced wide and keenly in the early stages.
RACE 4: LADBROKES POPULAR SRM MAIDEN HANDICAP (QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE 2&3YO ONLY) 1560m
The start of this race was delayed approximately 5 minutes due to technical difficulties with the SKY Channel connection.
SAY IT LOUD – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining a position outside the lead near the 1300m. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Jockey Ryan Wiggins reported that SAY IT LOUD’s tendency to overrace proved detrimental to the mare’s overall chances.
WILLOW CAPRI – Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey Chris McIver stated that WILLOW CAPRI had travelled well in the early stages, however failed to respond to his riding urges over the final stages. Jockey McIver also added that further race fitness would be beneficial for the mare when stepping up over distances similar to today’s event.
STELLAR LEGEND – Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
FROSTY'S GOTCHA – Overraced in the early stages.
RACE 5: BOOK FOR AMATEUR CUP SATURDAY 23RD MAY OPEN HANDICAP 1560m
SCRUB CHAIN – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
JOURNALISM – Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, shifted inwards and tightened the running of REMLAP KAVA. Held up in the early stages of the home straight. Laid outwards under pressure over the final 100m.
MOKTAFFY (IRE) – Lost its left hind shoe in running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor abrasions to its left hind leg.
MISTERKIPCHOGE (NZ) – Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining a position outside the leader near the 1300m.
TURN ME ROYALE (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shifted inwards after the start, bumping with CITIROC, and as a result was slow to begin.
YOROKOBI (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
CITIROC – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards after the start, bumping with TURN ME ROYALE (NZ) and as a result was slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid outwards under pressure in the home straight.
REMLAP KAVA – Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, was briefly tightened for room when JOURNALISM (jockey Adam Sewell) shifted inwards and had to shift outwards. Jockey Adam Sewell was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide until a point near the 800m.
RACE 6: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1200m
OUTBACK ACTION – Slow to begin. Held up momentarily in the early stages of the home straight. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance, trainer Lachie Manzelmann stated that the drop down in class and 4kg claim off its handicapped weight proved beneficial in the gelding’s chances today.
DEALING'S DONE – Brushed the inside running rail near the 900m.
FLYING SHAMUS – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.
UNIVERSAL HARMONY – Began awkwardly. Laid outwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
SVINDAL – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
OUTBACK BANDIT – Raced wide in the early stages.
BRASCO – Began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn.
UPSTART LEGEND – Began awkwardly. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 7: LADBROKES OWNERS PROMOTION BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1300m
TOP HONOURS – Raced wide and keenly in the early stages.
BOLD CHANGE – Dipped on jumping. Jockey Ryan Wiggins was fined $500 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, 11 times in total.
MORDECAI – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
FOUR LEAF WONDER – Bumped with SPITZBERG at the start. Carried wider rounding the home turn by MISSISSIPPI DREAM (NZ) which shifted outwards.
OUR HEART THROB – Was fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly and bumped with MISSISSIPPI DREAM (NZ).
DUBAWI'S GIRL – Raced keenly and wide in the early stages until obtaining a lead position near the 900m. Laid inwards in the home straight and near the 150m made contact with the inside running rail for some distance. Apprentice Tahlia Fenlon stated that leading in today’s event was not her initial intention, however after DUBAWI’S GIRL began only fairly and commenced to overrace, she elected to allow the mare to roll forward and settle in a position where comfortable. Apprentice Fenlon further reported that DUBAWI’S GIRL failed to respond to her riding from a point near the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
SPITZBERG – Bumped with FOUR LEAF WONDER at the start. Raced keenly in the early stages.
MISSISSIPPI DREAM (NZ) – Bumped with OUR HEART THROB at the start. Raced keenly in the early stages. Shifted outwards rounding the home turn, carrying FOUR LEAF WONDER wider.
THE KOBAY TRAIN – Began awkwardly.
MAKING HISTORY – Raced wide in the early stages.
RACE 8: RACING AGAIN SATURDAY 23RD MAY BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1100m
NEVERENOUGHLEGO – Bumped with TOO MANY KISSES at the start. Raced wide in the early stages. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Inclined to hang outwards rounding the home turn.
SENSATIONABULL – Raced wide throughout. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
FIOREEN – Bumped with LITTLE IFFY at the start.
HUMBLE HERO – Raced wide throughout. Jockey Natalea Summers dropped her whip shortly upon entering the home straight.
RAVENITE – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Inclined to lay outwards under pressure in the home straight.
LITTLE IFFY – Bumped with FIOREEN at the start.
TOO MANY KISSES – Bumped with NEVERENOUGHLEGO at the start. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
JOHN'S ROAD – Began awkwardly and made contact with the outside barrier partition. Raced wide in the early stages. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight and near the 150m had to be steadied to avoid shifting across the heels of RAVENITE.
