GENERAL
The following runners all underwent pre-race veterinary examinations after having competed within the previous 7 days:
Rockhampton 19th June – MAKING HISTORY
Clermont 20th June – YOROKOBI (NZ), MAYOR OF KINGSTON, BETTY BOOM & UPSTART LEGEND
Bowen 21st June – BESTOV, FILLYDELPHIA MISS, RUBY DOREEN
Due to the limited availability of riders who could ride at 54kg in Race 2, no action was taken regarding the late declaration of riders on a number of runners engaged.
As apprentice Jaimee-Lee Devine was not riding at today’s meeting due to being stood down at Innisfail, a rider replacement was made as per the Stewards race day summary.
Stewards approved the following overweight:
Race 2 – Ben Kennedy (+1kg)
RACE 1: BOOK NOW MACKAY CUP SAT 25TH JULY QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP (1200m)
BETTER BLITZEM – Shifted inwards on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 600m shifted wider to improve carrying DUB STEPPING wider. Laid inwards under pressure in the home straight and had to be corrected on a number of occasions by its rider.
ALBERTA BOUND – Began awkwardly and slow into stride as a result. Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining a position in the lead near the 900m. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
DUB STEPPING – Raced keenly in the early stages. Carried wider near the 600m when BETTER BLITZEM shifted outwards in an attempt to improve. Inclined to lay inwards when under pressure in the home straight.
ANDERS KISS – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
LONG TALL JAMES – Began awkwardly.
TIGER ROCKET – Began awkwardly and slow to begin as a result. Trainer Jade Doolan was advised that a warning would be placed on TIGER ROCKET’s record for being uncompetitive.
RACE 2: LADBROKES HOSTED POTS QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP (1300m)
EXODAS – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 200m improved into restricted room to the outside of MAYOR OF KINGSTON briefly placing that runner in restricted room and bumping.
LUCKY LASS – Slow into stride. Jockey Raul Silvera Olivera was fined $200 under AR132(7)(a)(i) for applying his whip on two consecutive strides on two occasions in the home straight.
INNOVADER – Over raced in the early stages. Laid inwards under pressure in the home straight.
YOROKOBI (NZ) – Raced wide in the early stages. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid inwards under pressure in the home straight.
MAYOR OF KINGSTON – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 200m was briefly placed in restricted room and bumped when EXODUS attempted a narrow run to the outside. Jockey Aiden Holt (EXODUS) was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in which he progressed into a run, in the opinion of stewards was insufficient resulting in contact with MAYOR OF KINGSTON.
BESTOV – Over raced in the early stages. Near the 1000m momentarily restrained from the heels RUBY DOREEN whilst over racing.
BETTY BOOM – Near the 1100m over raced onto the heels of RUBY DOREEN and had to be eased wider as a result. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
FILLYDELPHIA MISS – Was reluctant to load. Began very awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. Raced wide in the early stages. Inclined to lay inwards under pressure in the home straight.
RUBY DOREEN – Raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned in relation to the performance jockey Natalea Summers stated that the filly had travelled well in the early stages, however in her opinion RUBY DOREEN may have choked down in running and has recommended the addition of a tongue tie. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer Lachie Manzelmann was advised that a warning would be placed on RUBY DOREEN’s record for being uncompetitive.
RACE 3: LADBROKES MEGA MULTI BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1300m)
LINE ‘EM UP LOUI – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
BRASCO – Began awkwardly bumping FIVE STAR KING.
HUMBLE HERO – Began awkwardly. Inclined to shift ground under pressure on occasions in the home straight.
FIVE STAR KING – Began awkwardly bumping with BRASCO. Laid inwards under pressure over the final 200m.
LUXOR PRINCE – Jockey Georgina Cartwright was harmlessly dislodged leaving the mounting enclosure. Began very awkwardly and slow into stride as a result. Inclined to lay outwards rounding the home turn. Following the running of the race jockey Cartwright was examined by QAS officers after making head contact with LUXOR PRINCE on jumping and was cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.
RACE 4: LADBROKES POPULAR SAME RACE MULTI QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1560m)
ALVIN – Carried inwards on jumping by CASH PIT and hampered GENERAL GORDAN as a result. Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining a position in the lead near the 1000m. Raced keenly in the early stages.
CASH PIT – Shifted inwards on jumping carrying ALVIN inwards which hampered GENERAL GORDAN. Approaching the 600m switched wider to avoid the tiring FROSTY QUEEN.
JOHN’S ROAD – Laid inwards under pressure in the home straight.
FROSTY’S GOTCHA – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
GENERAL GORDON – Hampered on jumping by ALVIN which was carried inwards by CASH PIT and as a result lost ground. Bumped with SILVERTAIL shortly after the start. Dipped near the 600m. Inclined to lay inwards under pressure in the home straight.
CHECK ONE TWO – Bounded on jumping and slow to begin as a result. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid inwards under pressure in the home straight.
SILVERTAIL – Began awkwardly bumping GENERAL GORDAN shortly after. Slow into stride. Switched outwards over the concluding stages to avoid the heels of ALVIN.
WILLOW CAPRI – Began awkwardly. Shifted wider near the 500m to avoid the tiring FROSTY QUEEN. Laid inwards when under pressure in the home straight.
FROSTY QUEEN – Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining a position outside the leader near the 1250m. Passing the 600m commenced to tire noticeably and took no further competitive part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer Lachie Manzelmann was advised that FROSTY QUEEN would be stood down from racing until the completion of an official trial to the satisfaction of stewards due to a poor performance. Trainer Manzelmann advised Stewards that he would likely reconsider the immediate racing future of the filly within his stable.
RACE 5: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP (1200m)
DEALING’S DONE – Stood flat footed as the start was effected (3L). Near the 50m raced in restricted room and had to be eased from the heels of ZAYA when that runner laid out and UNIVERSAL HARMONY laid inwards. Trainer Wayne Winters was advised that a warning would be placed on the geldings record for standing flat footed at the start.
FLYING SHAMUS – Began awkwardly. Inclined to lay inwards under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the 200m briefly impeded by UNIVERSAL HARMONY which laid outwards.
UNIVERSAL HARMONY – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 200m laid outwards briefly impeding FLYING SHAMUS and the commenced to lay inwards under pressure thereafter.
DETERMINATION –Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the home straight.
SPIRIT OF MAC – Bounded on jumping and slow to begin as a result. Near the 400m shifted wider in an attempt to improve. Inclined to lay inwards under pressure over the final 150m.
ZAYA – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly throughout. Inclined to lay outwards under pressure.
RACE 6: RACING AGAIN THURSDAY 2ND JULY BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1100m)
CRYOSEISMS – Bounded on jumping. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
SHE’S SPEEDY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Inclined to lay inwards under pressure in the home straight.
REBELIOUS RED – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining a position outside the leader near the 900m and raced keenly thereafter.
RAVENITE – Began awkwardly. Momentarily held up upon entering the home straight.
MAKING HISTORY – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear racing room in the home straight until a point near the 250m.
RACE 7: BARRY WILLIAMS MEMORIAL LIGHTNING HANDICAP (1100m)
OBLIGATED – Dipped on jumping. Raced wide throughout. When questioned in relation to the performance apprentice Mitchell Goring stated that despite being trapped wide, he was not overly concerned during the early and middle stages, however the gelding failed to respond to his riding efforts upon entering the home straight and in his opinion raced flat. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
LEAN EAGLE – Fractious prior to the start and bounded on jumping as a result. Raced ungenerously in the early stages when being restrained to obtain a position with cover and raced keenly thereafter.
BOOMING LAD – Carried inwards at the start by KAI MONDO impeding OUTBACK ACTION as a result. Held up for clear racing room until a point near the 150m. Inclined to lay inwards under pressure in the home straight. Jockey Chelsea Jokic was reminded to ensure she rides her mount out fully to the finish.
COCHRANE – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Inclined to lay outwards under pressure in the home straight. Jockey Adam Sewell reported that the gelding may have choked down in running.
OUTBACK ACTION – Impeded on jumping when BOOMING LAD was carried inwards by KAI MONDO.
KAI MONDO – Began awkwardly carrying BOOMING LAD inwards impeding OUTBACK action. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
UPSTART LEGEND – Began awkwardly. Briefly held up leaving the 150m when COCHRANE laid outwards. Following the event, jockey Nathan Thomas reported that his foot had struck the barriers at the start and had minor soreness.
