When questioned regarding the performance of COAL SEAM, jockey Ashley Butler stated he could offer no tangible explanation for the gelding’s disappointing performance. He explained that after beginning awkwardly, he elected to push forward to obtain a desired position to avoid being trapped wide, however, COAL SEAM failed to travel at any stage during the event. Jockey Butler further stated that the gelding became awkward in its action on several occasions in the home straight, and as a result, he therefore elected to ease his mount and apply no further pressure over the final stages. Trainer C Taylor could also offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.
