RACE 4 - IRON MAINTENANCE SERVICES RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 HANDICAP (1100M)

Stewards inquired into the reasons why REBELIOUS RED was tightened and checked near the 200m. After taking evidence from riders C McIver (REBELIOUS RED), apprentice M Bourke (SPITZBERG), D Turner (BILLY BOOM), S Cormack (HE’S THE ONE) and W Satherley (MOOCHI STARLIGHT), it was established that approaching the 200m, MOOCHI STARLIGHT and HE’S THE ONE had brushed, resulting in HE’S THE ONE shifting outwards marginally and contacting REBELIOUS RED resulting in that runner shifting outwards. Simultaneously, SPITZBERG, which was improving to the outside of REBELIOUS RED, commenced to hang inwards resulting in apprentice M Bourke taking immediate corrective measures and whilst doing so, SPITZBERG’s hindquarters made contact with REBELIOUS RED, resulting in SPITZBERG shifting inwards further when unbalanced, consequently REBELIOUS RED was checked. Due to the movement of multiple runners in this incident, the racing manners of SPITZBERG and the immediate corrective measures adopted by apprentice Bourke, Stewards could not be satisfied to the requisite standard that any one rider was at fault. All riders however were reminded to ensure that they attempt to provide sufficient room to one another in similar situations.
