GENERAL

Stewards ordered the late scratching of ARSTRONG BAY engaged in Race 5 due to there being no available rider at 8:34am.

Rider N. Fazakerley was replaced by apprentice H. Saunders in Race 4 due to being overweight. N. Fazakerley was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions AR190(3).

Race 1. MORVAN RACECLUB SUPPORTERS QTIS BENCHMARK 55 (1000m)
 
ZA HIDDEN DRAGON – Underwent a resaddle on arrival to the barriers.
 
EGYPTIAN’S REWARD – Rider N. Fazakerley was reprimanded for using his whip on one occasion in consecutive strides prior to the 100m. 132(7)(a)(i).
 
BOSS BANDIT – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
BLAME THE BUBBLES – Shortly after the start was hampered between runners and was eased. Apprentice C. Krahnen reported after being hampered she was racing within the kick back, which her mount resented. She added that she elected to shift wider to avoid the kickback and as a result race wide for a majority of the event.


SAVVY SONG – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running near the 200m.
 
RACE 2. MORGAN PASTORAL QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1000m)
 
ALL TOO SHEIK – Laid out around the turn near the 700m and shifted wider despite apprentice H. Saunders efforts.
 
CORONATION DAY – Near the 900m was eased when close to the heels of JOANNA THE GOANNA (N. Olzard), which shifted in. Apprentice N. Olzard was advised to exercise care when shifting ground, Stewards noted that her mount was racing greenly.
 
MEGAPHONE MISS – Near the 700m was hampered and taken wider by ALL TOO SHEIK (H. Saunders), which had shifted out rounding the turn. Stewards spoke to H. Saunders in relation to the incident where she shifted out when not clear of SHOW ME THE DOUGH and hampered MEGAPHONE MISS. On review of the vision, she was advised to exercise more care. In not taking the issue further consideration was made to the unique tight turn and H. Saunders inexperience on the track.
 
SHOW ME THE DOUGH – Near the 700m was eased when close to the heels of ALL TOO SHEIK, which had shifted out rounding the turn.
 
BARRYTHEBARBARIC – Slow into stride and then raced wide without cover for a majority of the event.
 
JOANNA THE GOANNA – Weakened from the 600m and was eased down from approaching the 200m. Apprentice N. Olzard was at a loss to explain the performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer R. Warzecha reported to Stewards it was her intention to retire the filly. On that assurance, Stewards took no formal action on the horse.
 
RACE 3. “FRED BALLINGAL & DOUG UTTING MEMORIAL” CLASS B HANDICAP (1200m)
 
SOLAR SURFER – Near the 1100m shifted out slightly and bumped with SPANISH RAGE and became unbalanced. Approaching the 1000m was steadied when close to the heels of DESTINY GUNGHO, which had shifted away from ALIZA, which had shifted in.
 
NYTHE – Slow into stride. Lost contact with the majority of the field shortly after the start, despite the efforts of its rider. Rider D. Evans reported that after being slow to begin NYTHE was reluctant to stretch out and felt short in its action. He added after losing contact with the field NYTHE raced in the kick back, which the gelding resented, and he was unable to comply with the trainer’s original instructions. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer M. Patterson was at a loss to explain the performance of the gelding which had pleased him in his work leading up to today’s event. Stewards will follow up with the stable.
 
SHEFIFF’S STAR – Approaching the 1000m eased and raced in restricted room to the inside of SOLAR SURFER, which had been steadied when close to the heels of DESTINY GUNGHO, which in turn had shifted in and away from ALIZA that had shifted in when not clear (P. Randall). P. Randall was severely reprimanded under the provision of AR131(a) for shifting in continuously from the start when insufficiently clear of multiple riders and causing interference.
 
SPANISH RAGE – Near the 1100m, shifted in slightly and bumped SOLAR SURFER. Raced keenly in the middle stages getting its head up on a number of occasions.
 
DESTINY GUNGHO – Approaching the 1000m shifted in and away from ALIZA, which had shifted in.
 
LAID BACK BON - Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start was carried in by ALIZA (P. Randall) and steadied. Raced wide without cover for a majority of the event.
 
RACE 4. SHERIDAN DELFORCE TRANSPORT BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1200m)
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing rider D. Evans and connections to see the available vision in the straight. After electing not to lodge an objection correct weight was declared.
 
DUSAN – Shifted out near the 800m carrying PRETTY RHO out slightly. Over the concluding stages was placed close to the heels of PRETTY RHO, which had shifted out marginally under riding.
 
HIGHLY TEMPTED – Rider R. Tilley reported that the gelding was beaten for early speed and would be better suited racing over further than today’s 1200m. He added that although he was urging his mount along throughout the race the gelding failed to quicken until placed under full pressure in the straight where it responded and finished the race off well.
 
DISCREET MISS – Began awkwardly.
 
PRETTY RHO – Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 800m was hampered and carried wider before being restrained to find cover.
 
RACE 5. ROMA SANDS RATING BAND 0-55 HANIDCAP (1400m)
 
DESERT STAR – Laid out rounding the home turn.

ARMSTRONG BAY – Late scratching at 8:34am due to no available rider.
 
IMEZAAKI – On arrival to the gates had the cross over noseband refitted. Began very awkwardly and then hampered. Apprentice A. Krahnen reported that after being awkward at the start her mount failed to respond to her riding and as a result trialed the filed throughout.
 
SHINE LIKE IT DOES – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
DUN WITH ROSES – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
RACE 6. CURLEY CATTLE TRANSPORT “CHARLIE GALAGHER MEMORIAL” MORVEN CUP OPEN HANDICAP (1400m)
 
Correct weight was delayed when the Judge notified Stewards that the photo finish equipment had malfunctioned. After the Judge had semaphored his numbers, as determined by him visually. Stewards reviewed the vision of the race before agreeing with the numbers and declaring correct weight.  
 
DECIDUOUS – Hampered shortly after the start.
 
MOORABINDA MICK – Shortly after the start, shifted out marginally bumping DECIDUOUS.
 
VOLDEMORT – Slow into stride. Rider R. Tilley was reprimanded for using his whip consecutively prior to the 100m. AR132(7)(a)(i)
 
THIRTEENTH MAN – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
AL ASH LAD – Raced wide early before being restrained to find cover. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
Rider R. Tilley pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, which is 2 more than permitted, and 17 times in total. Rider R. Tilley’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence midnight 19 September and expire midnight 26 September, eligible to resume 27 September. In assessing penalty Stewards considered his guilty plea, record and the QRIC Whip Penalty Template.
 
RACE 7 “SHEPPARD FAMILY MEMORIAL” BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1800m)
 
 
EDWARDS – Slow to begin. Passing the post on the first occasion raced in restricted room and was eased. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
HI FRANK – Slow to begin.
 
Apprentice H. Saunders pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 12 occasions prior to the 100m, which is 7 more than permitted, and 15 times in total. Apprentice H. Saunder’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days to commence following her careless riding suspension incurred at Warwick. Accordingly, H. Saunder’s license is suspended from midnight 30 September and to expire midnight 10 October, eligible to resume 11 October. In assessing penalty Stewards considered his guilty plea, record and the QRIC Whip Penalty Template.
