GENERAL:
Due to a clerical error, Race 1: DONKEY, BIKIE CHIC and SHUTTER MONKEY were all displaying the incorrect numbers in the race book. This was brought to the attention of the Clerk of Scales and broadcast via public announcement. No 8 – DONKEY, No 9 – BIKIE CHIC, No 10 – SHUTTER MONKEY.
Race 1: GREAT NORTHERN BULL RIDING SERIES QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 900 Metres
SHUTTER MONKEY – Slow to begin.
DONKEY – Attempted to buck for some distance after the start losing considerable ground and finished tailed off. Trainer S. Horner was advised the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before being permitted to race again.
CRAIGLEA RAFFERTY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
II PRICCIPE – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
REFUTATION – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Laid in under pressure in the home straight proving difficult to ride out.
Race 2: MAREEBA SHEDS & GAS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 1010 Metres
RAIN ON ME – Began awkwardly. Steadied near the 80 metres when placed in restricted room by JONDY DES which shifted.
JONDY DES – Slow to begin. Shifted in under pressure near the 80 metres placing RAIN ON ME restricted room. Rider D. Smith was reprimanded.
SOLOMON – Blundered on jumping.
SPED EIGHT – Slow to begin.
FILLY SLATER – Laid out for the majority of the race and shifted wider rounding the home turn.
INSTITUTION – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lacerations to its near hind lower leg.
Race 3: GRAHAM HOTEL CLASS B HANDICAP – 1210 Metres
NORTHERN GREAT – Delayed the start when the saddle shifted during in the preliminary requiring the gelding to be resaddled behind the barriers.
STYLE LINE – Slow to begin.
SHADOW ECLIPSE – Slow to begin.
VARSITY – Laid in near 100 metres bumping CARPE NOCTEM.
CARPE NOCTEM – Bumped near 100 metres.
Race 4: NQ WASTETRANS OPEN HANDICAP – 1210 Metres
DANCING DIVA – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages.
Race 5: PROFESSIONAL PUMPING SERVICES (PPS) BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 1500 M ETRES
Correct weight was delayed when the rider of the third placegetter TRUSTABLE, (D. Smith) along with connections requested to view the patrol films to ascertain whether they had grounds to lodge a protest against the second placegetter PURE REBEL (E. Cass). After viewing the films, connections advised that they did not wish to proceed with the protest and correct was semaphored on the judges numbers.
PURE REBEL – Shifted out passing the winning post bumping TRUSTABLE which in turn shifted out hampering GO JABBA causing apprentice K. Swaffer to become momentarily unbalanced. Apprentice E. Cass was reprimanded and advised to show greater care.
TRUSTABLE – Slow to begin. Bumped by PURE REBEL passing the winning post and in turn shifted out hampering GO JABBA.
GO JABBA – Hampered shortly after the winning post causing rider apprentice K. Swaffer to become momentarily unbalanced.
