GENERAL
Mareeba 26 May 2024 – Race 4: GREGG CONSTRUCTIONS PTY LTD Benchmark 55 Handicap – 1210M
Stewards today inquired into the reason DIVINE WIT (W. D’Avila) fell near the 700 metres. After hearing statements from jockey W. D’Avila and stewards observations along with viewing all of the available race day footage it was established that near the 700 metres DIVINE WIT had improved to the outside of DUYFKEN which stepped out marginally rounding the turn on its own accord bumping DIVINE WIT on its off shoulder, which in-turn resulted in DIVINE WIT shifting out and being awkwardly placed at the heels of RED LANTERN (F. Edwards) clipping that runners heels and falling, dislodging jockey D’Avila. Stewards determined that no action of any other rider in the race had contributed to the fall which was deemed to be a very unfortunate racing incident.
Stewards questioned App T Wheeler after receiving a complaint in relation to App Wheeler’s failure to fulfil riding commitments at the meeting of the Mt Isa Race Club today 24/05/2025 after it was established that App Wheeler had verbally accepted a number of rides at that race meeting. After considering submissions from App Wheeler, who pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR 127, Stewards severely reprimanded App Wheeler and reminded him of his obligation going forward in relation to this rule.
