MOUNT ISA- SATURDAY 27th SEPTEMBER  2025

OFFICIALS
Chairman of Stewards – P. Warren
Stewards – R. Prowd
General :
On Thursday, 25 September 2025, Stewards questioned trainer Mr Bevan Johnson regarding the nomination of HAN DYNASTY for both a 1,000 metre and a 1,450-metre race at Mount Isa on Saturday, 27 September 2025. Of particular concern was that HAN DYNASTY, which in 48 race starts had never competed beyond 1,200 metres, was nominated for the 1,450-metre event — a race in which Mr Johnson also had two other lesser-credentialled runners nominated, and which potentially could have resulted in those horses carrying lesser weights because of HAN DYNASTY’s nomination. Stewards also noted that HAN DYNASTY was nominated for the Longreach meeting, also scheduled for Saturday, 27 September 2025.
In explanation, Mr Johnson stated that he had nominated HAN DYNASTY for both distances at Mount Isa due to concerns with the weights the gelding had been required to carry in recent starts, and that by stepping the horse up to 1,450 metres there may have been some weight relief available. However, after weights were released and HAN DYNASTY was allocated 68 kilograms, he elected to start the gelding in the shorter 1,000 metre race. Mr Johnson further advised that, while HAN DYNASTY had historically competed over shorter distances, he was now looking to step the gelding up in distance where opportunities arose and where race conditions assisted in alleviating the burden of weight to be carried. Mr Johnson’s explanation was noted.
In discussions with Racing Queensland, the handicapping department confirmed that the weights allotted to all runners in the 1,450-metre race at Mount Isa were determined independently of HAN DYNASTY’s nomination for that event.
