GENERAL
1. This meeting was conducted under the regulations of the QRIC Caring for Animals Extreme Heat Policy.
2. Trainer Tanya Parry was fined $300.00 under the provisions of LR 67(1) for the late declaration of riders for Race 2 (EROTAS(NZ)), Race 4 (OCTOBER REVOLUTION) and Race 5 (HOT FLAMINGO).
Race 1: SPORTSBET Maiden Plate 1200M
BUSTERKICK – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice rider Samantha Pointon reported at scale that BUSTERKICK resented the kickback in running.
MIDORI FOREST – Shifted out and bumped with CUP OF AMBITION on jumping. Raced wide throughout.
SACRED BELIEF (NZ) – Rider Shane McGovern was reprimanded under the provisions of AR 132(6)(c) for the use of his whip when his horse was out of contention.
UP TO US – Contacted on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Bumped with HELLUVAPUNCH leaving the 500 metres.
WEIRD GOODBYES – Bumped on jumping and became unbalanced.
CUP OF AMBITION – Shifted in and contacted MIDORI FOREST on jumping.
INSAIN FLAME – Began awkwardly and shifted in, colliding with WEIRD GOODBYES which became unbalanced. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
KOUKLITSA – Fractious in the mounting yard prior to the start with rider Nor Yadi being dislodged shortly after mounting. Shifted out on jumping contacting the hindquarters of UP TO US. Raced wide with cover throughout. Hung in throughout the final straight, resulting in rider Nor Yadi having to stop riding and straighten his mount.
HELLUVAPUNCH – Blundered on jumping and was slow to begin as a result. Raced wide throughout. Bumped with UP TO US leaving the 500 metres. Laid in through the early part of the home straight.
Race 2: QH20 Class 1 Handicap 1200M
COMBS – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
FRENCH EMPIRE – Conceded ground leaving the 500 metres. When questioned on the disappointing performance, rider Robert Faehr stated that FRENCH EMPIRE had labored in the heavy sand track conditions at Mount Isa today and was not comfortable in the going. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near fore hoof. Trainer Bevan Johnson was advised that FRENCH EMPIRE would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
EROTAS (NZ) – Shifted out and bumped COMBS on jumping. Momentarily held up for clear running leaving the 250 metres before shifting inward to continue to improve.
GLASSOUT – Stood flat-footed at the start and was very slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
POLLY HOFFA – Jumped out at the start crowding BITTERBLUE. Laid in over the final 50 metres.
SUPERSTELLAR – Began very awkwardly then shifted in crowding BITTERBLUE. Hung out rounding the 600-metre turn and raced wide thereafter. Returned to scale with blood present in the mouth after contacting the side of the barriers on jumping, with a post-race veterinary examination revealing a tooth had been dislodged in the incident.
BITTERBLUE (NZ) – Began awkwardly then crowded shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
Race 3: CNW Benchmark 50 Handicap 900M
VONK – Began awkwardly.
HI ZERO – HI ZERO was declared a late scratching at 1:41pm after refusing to load into the barriers. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on HI ZERO be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st VIKING VALOUR 2c win, 5c place
2nd VONK 5c place
Trainer Tanya Parry was advised that HI ZERO must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
VIKING VALOUR – Began awkwardly.
HAVEABEERFORTED – Very slow to begin. Failed to muster speed in the initial stages.
WHOLELOTTALOVE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
HELLARAMA – Rider Shane McGovern was reminded of his obligations to ride his mount out fully to the line after narrowly gaining 3rd place.
Race 4: LES HUDDY MEMORIAL BRACELET OPEN Handicap 1200M
LE FORCE – Resented the kickback in the middle stages. When questioned on the performance, rider Paul Hamblin stated that LE FORCE was dropping back in distance following its last start win at Mount Isa and never travelled comfortably throughout. The gelding over raced in the middle stages and lost ground. Trainer J Morris advised that he was not disappointed in the gelding’s performance and believed the fast sectional times in today’s race made it difficult for the LE FORCE to make ground after being beaten for speed early. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality.
SWAMP NATION – Apprentice rider Maddie Mankelow reported at scale that SWAMP NATION resented the kickback when racing in a trailing position.
SANTORINI SUN – Raced wide throughout.
OCTOBER REVOLUTION – Taken out on jumping contacting NAPOLEON STRIKE. Raced wide throughout. When questioned on the improved performance of the race winner OCTOBER REVOLUTION, Trainer Tanya Parry stated that the gelding was better suited stepping up in distance over the 1200 metres and had dropped considerably in weight compared to its 2 previous starts since being transferred from New South Wales. Trainer Parry advised that she was not overly confident in the horse’s chances in today’s event and preferred other stable runners. Ms. Parry was advised that the performance was considered a marked improvement on its previous local form and was advised that OCTOBER REVOLUTION is expected to race consistently in future starts.
NAPOLEON STRIKE – Blundered on jumping however recovered quickly, then bumped shortly after.
FERRARI GIRL – Blundered on jumping however recovered quickly.
TAKERU – Shifted out on jumping, taking OCTOBER REVOLUTION out onto NAPOLEON STRIKE, which was contacted.
Race 5: SPORTSBET QTIS Class 3 Plate 1000M
HEAVENLY LEGEND – Blundered on two occasions shortly after jumping, losing ground.
MAKEMINEMILO – Raced wide throughout.
HOT FLAMINGO – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
WHISKEY RIVER – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
Race 6: TREVOR MORRIS BUILDERS BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1200M
TRICKETEER – Began awkwardly then heavily contacted by FABULOUS HOFFA. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
PEACEFUL PRINCE – Slow to begin.
MISTER MODERATION – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
FABULOUS HOFFA – Jumped out at the start making heavy contact with TRICKETEER. Raced wide throughout.
SEIRYU – Began awkwardly and was slowly away as a result.
THE BOI – Raced wide throughout. When questioned on the performance, rider Shane McGovern stated that THE BOI raced off the bit from the 800 metres and elected not to persevere with the gelding over the concluding stages, expressing concern with the gelding’s action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near fore fetlock. Trainer Kerry Krogh was advised that THE BOI would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
Race 7: CITY & COUNTRY REALITY BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1450M
BREAKING GROUND – Shortly after the start, raced ungenerously for some distance and had to restrained off heels on several occasions.
WHODARESWINS – Raced wide throughout.
THE LAST CRUSADE – Raced wide throughout. Shifted in approaching the 100 metres resulting in MEGHAN having to be steadied away from its heels.
ROMAN DAGGER (NZ) – Bumped with INFINITE PRINCE on jumping.
INFIINTE PRINCE – Bumped with ROMAN DAGGER (NZ) on jumping. Raced wide throughout.
MAGIC GAME – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
MEGHAN – Raced wide throughout. Had to be steadied away from the heels of THE LAST CRUSADE approaching the 100 metres when that runner shifted in. Rider Nor Yadi was reprimanded under the provisions of AR 131(a) for allowing his mount to shift ground when not clear.
FAR REACHING – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
On returning to scale, Apprentice Rider Maddie Mankelow, the rider of 2nd placegetter MEGHAN, advised she wished to lodge an objection against 1st placegetter THE LAST CRUSADE alleging interference over the final 150 metres. After consideration of all relevant factors including evidence from the respected riders and connections, along with the vision of the event, Stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the judge’s semaphored numbers.
