Race 5 : GREAT ARTESIAN VETERINARY SURGERY OPEN Handicap (1400 METRES)
Stewards have concluded the inquiry into rider Maddie Mankelow’s riding of HURRICANE THUNDER over the final stages of the race where she applied the whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100 metres, 4 more than permitted. In consequence rider Mankelow was charged and admitted a breach of AR 132(7)(a)(ii), and after consideration of all relevant factors a fine of $500.00 was imposed. Additionally, rider Mankelow was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(i) for applying her whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100 metres.
GENERAL
1. PITLECO LASS, which was engaged in Race 1, was scratched by order of the Stewards prior to scratching time acting under the provisions of AR83. After questioning Trainer Kerry Krogh, it was established that he had recently purchased the mare through an online sale, with the horse arriving at his stables on Tuesday 4 November 2025.Trainer Krogh had nominated the mare without consulting the previous connections regarding the horse’s preparation in the lead-up to today’s event and admitted he was unaware that the mare had been spelled following its most recent race performance on 9 October 2025. Trainer Krogh was reminded of his obligations to ensure he is fully informed of the training and racing status of any horse entering his care prior to nomination.
2. PRINCE OF DANCE (engaged in Race 1) and WITHOUT (engaged in Race 7) were declared late scratchings due to no rider being available. Given all circumstances, Trainer Shryn Royes was reprimanded under the provisions of LR68(1) and reminded of her obligations to scratch her runners by the required deadline.
3. As apprentice Rider Bailie Baker was indisposed, she was replaced by apprentice Amelia Heinrich on all engaged mounts as listed in the Stewards Race Day Summary.
4. Prior to the commencement of the race meeting, all riders were subject to a breath test and were all cleared to fulfil their engagements.
