SUPPLIMENTARY REPORT
PENTLAND RACE CLUB – Saturday 22nd November 2025
Race 5: HAMMER & CO PENTLAND CUP CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1600M
Stewards have conducted a hearing into rider David Spark’s riding of LEGAL CHALLENGE in the final straight where he applied the whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100 metres. Rider Sparks admitted a resultant breach of AR132(7)(a)(ii) and after consideration of penalty rider Sparks’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days, with this suspension to commence on Thursday 27th November 2025 and expire at the conclusion of racing on Wednesday 3rd December 2025.
GENERAL
The following horses were scratched by stewards at 11.00 a.m. due to no suitable rider being available -: Race 1. Smooth Torque, Cup of Ambition. Race 2 Swamp Nation. Race 3. Far Reaching, Erotas (NZ), Glassout, *Rogue ‘N’ Ready. Race 4. Falkland, Monte Azul (NZ), Helluvapunch, Capricious Belle. Race 5 Corvalist, Lady Magnet, *Rogue ‘N’ Ready (dual engagement Race 3). Outback Soldier, Tricketeer.
Chaseton was a late scratching at 8.58 a.m. due to difficulties loading the horse onto the float. The nominated rider Apprentice L Guernier was then declared on Wholelottalove.
Trainer T Parry elected to scratch Swamp Nation (Race 3) – when the only available rider was more than 3kg above the allocated weight.
PRE RACE SWABS – The following horses were pre-race swabbed – Race 1. Dulcet (NZ), Breaking Ground, The Last Crusade, Regal Judgement. Race 2. Stampede Warrior, Metal Bar, Santorini Sun, Benevento. Race 3 Combs, Bitterblue (NZ). Race 4. Busterkick, Boogiewithmahbaby. Race 5. Under Suspicion, Viking Valour, Kwik Az Hell.
RACE 1: BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 1450M
Breaking Ground – Broke through the barrier and underwent a veterinary examination before being cleared to race.
The Last Crusade – Raced three wide throughout.
Vonk – Declared a late scratching at 2.20 p.m. acting on veterinary advice due to suffering an earlier contusion to the right eye region that was discovered on saddling when the fly veil was removed, to place the bridle on the gelding. Trainer T Parry was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required prior to Vonk racing again. The gelding was treated on course by the Club Veterinary Surgeon.
The following deductions were applied on all bets made prior to 2.20 p.m. –
1st - 31 cents win - 28 cents place
2nd - 28 cents place
3rd – No dividend.
RACE 2: OPEN HANDICAP – 1450M
Stampede Warrior – Slow into stride.
Santorini Sun - Slow to begin, raced extremely wide in the back straight to avoid kickback.
Blazerro - Slow to begin.
RACE 3: BENCHMARK 0-50 HANDICAP – 1200M
Makeminemilo – Blundered when racing on the fence at the 200 metres. Consequently Jockey M. McDonald eased the gelding over the concluding stages and a post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
The Tyler - Raced wide throughout.
Bitterblue (NZ) – Raced four wide in the early and middle stages.
Super Stella - Raced wide.
RACE 4: QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
Busterkick – Raced extremely wide throughout.
Up To Us - Bumped with Pitleco Lass which was racing ungenerously at the 1000 metres.
Buz Fuz – After dismounting in the saddling paddock on return to scale, Jockey M. McDonald was suffering from heat stress and was ill. Following an examination from Ambulance officers, Jockey M. McDonald was unable to compete in Race 5. A medical clearance will be required prior to Jockey McDonald being permitted to accept rides in the future.
Whisky Dry – Raced wide.
Boogiewithmahbaby – Tired over the final 400 metres.
Pitleco Lass – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Shifted in and bumped Up to Us at the 1000 metres.
RACE 5: BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 1000M
Dance Wizard – The start was delayed due to the gelding having to be resaddled. Raced wide throughout.
Tricketeer – Declared a late scratching at 4.25 p.m. due to declared Jockey M. McDonald being unavailable due to illness and no other rider available. No deductions were required as betting had not commenced.
Kwik Az Hell – Threw head in the air on jumping and then raced wide.
Wholelottalove – Resented the kickback and failed to stretch out over the concluding stages.
