GENERAL
 
The following horses were declared late scratching’s by Stewards at 8.31am due to no riders being available at the meeting:
Race 3: MAYBE
Race 4: FINAL MISSION
Race 5: COLD ONE
 
Due to there being no other riders available to ride at the allocated weight, Stewards permitted the following overweights for today’s meeting:
Race 2: Jockey C Bryen +1kg = 61.5kg
Race 5: Jockey R Faehr +1.5kg = 57.5kg
 
 
Race 1: GREAT ARTESIAN VETERINARY SURGERY & VSB SURVEYS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000 Metres
 
The start of this race was delayed to wait for an ambulance to arrive on course. The start was further delayed when HEAD HONCHO refused to load into the barriers.
 
YUKAN ROSE – Momentarily held up for clear running entering the home straight.
 
SINGLE HONOR – Began awkwardly.
 
BOLD SMUGGLER – Lost the near hind shoe in running.
 
RUBUNKAR – Began awkwardly.
 
DEFIANT BOOM – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FLYING RUPERT – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SALT LAKE BETTY – Inclined to lay in for the majority of the event.
 
HEAD HONCHO – The start of this event was delayed when HEAD HONCHO refused to load. The gelding was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:41pm by order of Stewards. Trainer R Hermann was advised that the gelding would require a further satisfactory barrier certificate prior to being permitted to race again.
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets placed on HEAD HONCHO be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st – RUBUNKAR - 7c win, 8c place
2nd – SINGLE HONOR - 8c place
3rd - DEFIANT BOOM - 8c place
 
Race 2: D. GRAYS GRADER & LOADER HIRE QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 3-Y-O & Up 1000 Metres

WEIRD GOODBYES – As Jockey C Bryen was to be overweight and there were no other riders available to ride WEIRD GOODBYES at the allotted weight, Stewards acceded to a request from Trainer R Hermann for Jockey C Bryen to ride the gelding 1kg over the weight. Jockey Bryen was reprimanded pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Began awkwardly.
 
ALIZA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BEL SONG – Began awkwardly and made contact with the offside barrier gate. Jockey M Gray reported that BEL SONG, after beginning awkwardly was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages and in his opinion, the mare resented the tongue tie and added that he had advised the trainer to experiment with the removal of the tongue tie. Trainer P O’Toole was advised that the mare would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again due to today’s poor performance. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CORONATION DAY – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
FYANSFORD FLYER – Bumped on jumping.
 
LOQUITO – After being fractious in the mounting yard and being reluctant to proceed to the barriers, Trainer P O’ Toole was advised that a warning would be placed against the pre-race manners of the mare. Began awkwardly and bumped FYANSFORD FLYER.
 
MIDNIGHT MAGGIE (NZ) – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start.
 
Race 3: MSD ANIMAL HEALTH & MOUNTVIEW CHAROLAIS CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
 
SUPERSTITIOUS – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
FARNESINA – Began awkwardly.
 
RISE AND RESIST – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
INVADER'S GIRL – Trailed the field in the early and middle stages before finishing the race off strongly over the final 200m.
 
WAYFARER'S WAY – Began awkwardly and lost ground as a result. Raced wide throughout the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
GALATH (NZ) – A post-race Veterinary examination of the gelding after a report of possible lameness revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
MISS HIGHFALUTIN (NZ) – When asked to comment on the performance of the mare, Jockey D Sparkes reported that in his opinion MISS HIGHFALUTIN (NZ) was not suited by todays racing surface.
 
Race 4: HALL'S FIREARMS KEN & WIN WEDGWOOD CUP RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 HANDICAP 1400 Metres
 
CROWN REACH – Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.
 
A TENT HUT – Raced wide in the early stages of the event.
 
SHARP DAZZLER – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
FINAL COMMENT – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SMASHING ROSIE – Bumped on jumping. Over raced in the early stages of the event. Jockey M Gray reported that in his opinion SMASHING ROSIE resented the kickback from today’s racing surface.
 
YOU KAY SQUEEZE – Raced wide in the early stages of the event.
 
STRAYA PRIDE – Began awkwardly and bumpedSMASHING ROSIE.
 
Race 5: PJ GARLAND & SONS BUILDERS DAVID & BEBE SECCOMBE MEMORIAL MUTTABURRA CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1400 Metres
 
The start of this race was delayed when Jockey D Sparks required to be treated by QAS Officers after being dislodged in the mounting yard.
 
TESTATOR SILENS – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
LITTLE COINTREAU (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Shifted out under pressure approaching the 100m before being straightened by its rider.
 
NORTHUMBRIA – Began awkwardly.
 
CALL OUT – As there were no riders available at the meeting to ride CALL OUT at the allocated weight, Stewards acceded to a request from Trainer H Forster for Jockey R Faehr to ride the gelding 1.5kg over the weight. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
WAITAKERE – Became fractious in the mounting yard when Jockey D Sparks mountedup prior to the race and ran backwards resulting in Jockey Sparks being dislodged over the gelding’s rump and making contact with the outside fence. Jockey Sparks was treated for neck pain and cleared of any signs of concussion by the on-course QAS Officers but was advised to attend his local hospital and seek further treatment in relation to his injury. Stewards considered the circumstances of the incident and advised Jockey Sparks that he would require a medical certificate and also be required to successfully complete a cognitive test before riding again.
 
WAITAKERE was subsequently declared a late scratching at 4:35pm by order of Stewards. Trainer P Edwards was advised that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again due to the gelding’s pre-race manners.
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets placed on WAITAKERE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st – CALL OUT - 10c win, 13c place
2nd – LITTLE COINTREAU (NZ) - 13c place
