CRABBING – Slow into stride.
JEPTOO – Rider accidentally dropped the whip at the 300m.
LATIN AMERICAN – Rider accidentally dropped the whip 100 metres after the start. Stewards questioned the rider (J Guthmann-Chester) regarding the manner in which the gelding was ridden in the early stages of the race. The rider stated he was told that the horse races best when held up in the early part of the race, which is consistent with the gelding’s previous performances here. Stewards noted the explanation.
RACE 2: RAISING HELL IN MAIDENWELL Maiden Plate 1000M
The start of this race was delayed when SWIFT LITTLE MISS was fractious in the mounting yard and reared up, dislodging the rider. Both the horse and rider (J Missen) made contact with enclosure fence. SWIFT LITTLE MISS was declared a late scratching at 2.10pm with all bets placed on SWIFT LITTLE MISS prior to 2.10pm to be refunded. Deductions to apply: 8 cents/win for first, 9 cents/place for first, 9 cents/place for second, 9 cents/place for third. All SP bets were not subject to deductions. Was vetted and no abnormalities detected. Connections were advised that the mare must complete an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to starting again.
Rider J Missen received Ambulance attention and was transported to Nanango Hospital for further observation.
MATILDA MISS – Slow to jump. Had to be steadied at the 700m and lost some ground when checked by another runner.
MAN OVERBOARD – Slow to jump.
EVERINGHAM – Trainer B.Hudson requested to view the film of the start to see if his horse had been afforded a fair start. After viewing the film stewards were satisfied the gelding had every opportunity to jump with the field although after being fractious it was slow to begin.
LEILA’S CALL – Had to be steadied at the 700m and shifted in, making contact with another runner.
MAGIC GLOW – Approaching the 700m was awkwardly placed on the heels of another runner and shifted in, making contact with another runner. Rider M Murphy was reprimanded for shifting ground when insufficiently clear and advised to exercise more care in future. Rounding the home turn shifted out wider on the track.
RACE 3: HERITAGE NANANGO COUNTRY MUSTER Class B Handicap 1000M
CAST OUT – Slow to jump. Shifted in at the 600m making contact with another runner on several occasions. Rider M Cox was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.
DARLING BE GOOD – After passing the 600m became unbalanced when brushed by another runner on several occasions.
DANGEROUS DANICA – Rounded the home turn awkwardly and shifted out.
RACE 4: HERITAGE NANANGO MARDI GRAS CUP Benchmark 65 Handicap 1200M
As J Missen was injured earlier he was replaced on TROPICAL HEATWAVE by I Coombes.
CONHENRI – Shifted in near the 800m causing tightening to other runners. Rider W O’Connell was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
Prior to correct weight rider of third placed COVER UP (S Bayliss) viewed the patrol film to determine if there was grounds to lodge an objection against second placed TROPICAL HEATWAVE (I Coombes). After doing so rider S Bayliss lodged an objection, third versus second, for alleged interference at the 150m. After hearing all submissions stewards determined that COVER UP had obtained a run to the inside of TROPICAL HEATWAVE, which then shifted back in towards the inside rail, causing COVER UP to be checked and shift out off the heels of TROPICAL HEATWAVE to obtain clear running. Bearing in mind the margin between the two horses being a short head, stewards were comfortable that the ground lost by COVER UP from the interference exceeded the beaten margin and therefore upheld the protest, with correct weight declared on amended placings 4-6-2-1. Jockey I Coombes was reprimanded and advised to stop riding and straighten his mounts when shifting ground.
RACE 5: RURAL FIRE BRIGADE Benchmark 55 Handicap 1600M
I Coombes replaced J Missen on PAGOH.
SERALA – Had to be steadied approaching the turn at the 1200m when brushed by another runner.
I’M NO RUBY – Shifted in approaching the first turn despite the efforts of the rider, making contact with another runner.
O’GRADY – At the 1200m had to be checked and lost ground, when tightened and bumped by another runner while racing in restricted room.
SO QUICK – Over-raced approaching the 1200m and had to check off the heels of another runner, and in doing so shifted out making contact with another runner causing it to lose ground.
