GENERAL
Race 6. Stewards approved an application by trainer S. Kirkwood to allow rider P. Hamblin to ride ALFA DUNDEE 2.5kg overweight due to the geldings’ racing manners in requiring a senior rider and jockey Hamblin being the only senior rider available.
RACE 1:WALTERS AND SONS FORMWORK RATINGS BAND 0-50 HANDICAP 1000 Metres
QUARTER RED – Laid out rounding the home turn.
KOGA NINJA – Began awkwardly. Forced wider rounding the home turn when QUARTER RED laid out under pressure, and obliged to alter course to obtain clear running.
ABOUT RIGHT – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice S. Wilcock reported that her mount laid out rounding the home turn.
ROIGARD – Laid out rounding the home turn.
MEANIE – Shifted out on jumping
BRONZE MEMORY – Stood flatfooted and missed the start by a considerable margin losing contact with the main body of the field. Trainer J. Hanna was advised that BRONZE MEMORY must obtain a further barrier certificate in an official trial prior to racing again.
LA SUERTE – Buffeted between runners on jumping.
MADAM MAGPIE – Became fractious in the mounting enclosure, dislodging its bridle and becoming loose in the enclosure momentarily. Trainer’s representative for the Webster stable was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s pre race manners.
OUR FRANKIE – Raced wide throughout.
RACE 2: SOUTH BURNETT QUARRIES OPEN PLATE 1000 Metres
DRANG A TANG – Slow into stride.
HOLIDAY DREAMS – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
REJOICED – Raced wide throughout.
MR ENCORE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
ARTOPIA – Began awkwardly.
BEEN A SECRET – Shifted out under pressure approaching the 200m. Apprentice C. Krahnen was advised to exercise further care when shifting ground.
RACE 3: ALPINE EDGE QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200 Metres
Correct weight was delayed to allow apprentice A. McColm, rider of the second placegetter to view the Stewards patrol footage in the home straight. After viewing the footage, apprentice A. McColm elected not to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared on judges’ numbers.
HOT CONQUEST – Raced wide throughout.
POWERFUL WARRIOR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
SET FOR LIFE – Raced wide throughout.
FOXTROTTING – Bumped on jumping.
JAKEBRAKE – Raced wide throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
KING OF VALHALLA – Raced wide throughout.
TRUST IN THE ROCK – Bumped on jumping. Approaching the 600m, had to be steadied when racing in restricted room. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
STEP OBSESSED – Raced wide throughout.
DOUBTFUL ANGEL – Bumped shortly after the start.
STRAZ DANZ – Butler – Bumped with DOUBTFUL ANGEL shortly after the start.
RACE 4: CARROLLEE HOTEL BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
Correct weight was delayed to allow connections of the second placegetter PALATIAL PRINCE to view the Stewards patrol footage. After viewing the footage, apprentice R. O’Connell elected not to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared on judges’ numbers.
PALATIAL PRINCE – Laid out under pressure over the final 100m.
CRAZY EYED FRED – Slow into stride.
BEE EXACT – Laid in under pressure rounding the home turn and in the home straight.
FOR THE BRAVE – Steadied from heels approaching the 400m.
DOMINANT ROSE – Slow to begin.
MISS NICOLINI – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
RACE 5: NANANGO MEDICAL CENTRE BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200 Metres
Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey M. Buter, rider of SUENITO, to view the Stewards patrl footage to establish whether the gelding had been afforded a fair start. After viewing the films, jockey Butler was satisfied that the gelding had been afforded a fair start, and correct weight was declared on the judges’ numbers.
TORTILLA – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority.
DAUNTING INSTINCT – Commence to weaken from the 600m. When asked to comment on the performance, rider P. Hamblin could offer no explanation for the performance except to state that he was disappointed in the gelding’s effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
RESOLUTE LADY – Slow to begin.
SUENITO – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
RACE 6 : BELLBIRD PASTORAL COMPANY BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1600 Metres
WELL HELD – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages.
SOMETHING FORJO – Stewards allowed an application by co-trainer C. Geran for the gelding to race without a nasal strip when one was unavailable. Began awkwardly and lost ground.
ALFA DUNDEE – Bumped on jumping. Leaving the 400m, improved onto the heels of the weakening BRAIDWOOD QUEEN, and had to be steadied.
ROKABYE WARRIOR – Weakened from the 800m. Rider M. Butler reported that the gelding was very disappointing and he had recommended to connections that the application of a tongue tie to the gelding’s gear may be beneficial. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer A. Park was advised that ROKABYE WARRIOR must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
