Roma RC- 4/4/2026
Race 4- XXXX GOLD EASTER CUP 900m
KARAKAROO- Stewards inquired into an incident with Trainer Mr V Jones in relation to his alleged application of a topical spray to the horse on race day. After seeking professional veterinary advice and considering Mr Jone’s limited training experience and his excellent record. Stewards issued a Reprimand to him under the provision of AR249 for the offence and acting under the provision of AR104- issued a further Reprimand for his failure maintain a treatment book to the satisfaction of Stewards.
Race 5- MPK BENCMARK 60 HANDICAP 1640m
DUN WITH ROSES- AR78- Warning- Poor performance - Trainer C Storch transferred to Trainer M Patterson.
POCKET EIGHTS- AR78- Warning- Poor performance- Trainer B Waldron.
GENERAL
RACE 1: AE ARTHUR MEMORIAL BRENDON O’TOOLE BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1000M
INVICIBOO- Raced wide for the majority. At approximately the 450 point was dictated in marginally as a result of LADY DUTTON shifting in. Tended to lay in throughout to avoid the kickback. Rider Appr Jky V Soulsby reported in her opinion her mount wasn’t suited to the racing conditions today. Stewards noted her comments.
LADY DUTTON- Approaching the 450m shifted in when attempting to improve into the race, dictating the runner to the outside inward.
ONE SMART COOKIE- Proved difficult to load, Stewards acting under the provision of AR78 placed a Warning on the horse. Trainer M Gavin was advised.
RACE 2: AF & MF BLAKE MEMORIAL BARINGA STUDS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE- 1000M
ARE YA THERE- Declared a late scratching at 11.08am by order of Stewards.
MAKE MINE SHIRAZ- As the start was affected the gelding was hit by the barrier gate on jumping and then was heavily bumped by NYTHE after the start.
NYTHE- Began awkwardly by jumping in, then bumped MAKE MINE SHIRAZ, then was tightened between runners resulting in it bumping with the RICALLEN. Raced towards the rear of the field for the majority of the event despite the best efforts of the rider to improve. Jky R Tilley reported to stewards after being slow out and tightened after the start the horse was reluctant to improve despite his best efforts to do so. He acknowledged the gelding was doing his best work over the final stages of the race. Stewards noted Jky Tilley’s comments.
THE TERMINATOR- Began awkwardly jumping outward bumping with CHAMPAGNE QUEEN.
RICALLEN- Began awkwardly jumping in at the start bumped with NYTHE. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Was pulled up quickly by the rider as it went past the post. A post-race veterinary examination was ordered with no abnormalities being detected.
CHAMPAGNE QUEEN- Began awkwardly jumping in and was bumped by another runner at the start.
RACE 3: RON & BERYL MCINTOSH MEMORIAL WESTERN MEAT EXPLORERS OPEN HANDICAP 1200M
ROLL UP- Jumped in the air at the start. Began to improve into the race from the 500m ran finishing the race off strongly.
HURTLE- Raced wide for the majority of the event. Due to the seemingly disappointing performance acting under the provision of AR78 stewards placed a Warning on the horse for a poor performance.
WARRAH FLASH- Raced wide for the majority in an effort to avoid the dust and kickback. Began to improve into the race from the 500m.
TRANSCELTIC- Began awkwardly and after the start appeared to be reluctant to improve into the race. The rider began to urge the gelding wide in an effort to obtain a more forward position behind the leaders. The rider began to ease the horse out of the race from the 100m point. Stewards noted Jky Tilley’s comments. Jky R Tilley was reminded of his obligation under the provision of AR131(b) to ride his mount out to the line. Stewards spoke with Trainer Mr W Pugsley he thought the horse would be suited by the track conditions and he was disappointed with his performance and could offer no explanation why the gelding failed to perform well. Mr Pugsley he advised the horse ate well and has pulled up well with no ill effects after the run.
RACE 4: MCINTOSH MEMORIAL GRIMWADE & GORDON BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1200M
HEAVENLY LEGEND- Began awkwardly and made contact with the gates after the start. APPR V SOULSBY eased the gelding out of the race from the 100m. Appr Jky Soulsby advised Stewards the horse felt fine but began weakening in the home straight. Stewards noted Ms Soulsby’s comments but were of the opinion she could have made more effort over the final stages. Acting under the provision of AR131(b) Appr Jky Soulsby was reprimanded for her failure to ride her mount out to the end of the race. A post- race veterinary examination was ordered and no abnormalities were detected.
SEEBURG- Raced wide for the majority. Approaching the 200m ducked out sharply and then veered in before being corrected by the rider.
DREYFUS- Began awkwardly, bumped at the start. Stewards acting under the provision of AR132(7)(a)(ii) issued a charge to Jky T Banks for his use of the whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100m and a further 1 after the 100m with a totality of 11. Jky T Banks pleaded guilty to the charge. In determining penalty after utilizing the whip template stewards considered Jky Banks excellent record in relation to the rule, his forthright evidence and his guilty plea suspended his licence to ride in races for a period of 7 days commencing on midnight the 13/4/2026 up to and including the 20/4/2026 allowing his the freedom to return to race riding on the21/4/2026. Jky Banks was advised of his right to a review.
MAKERS- Began awkwardly and bumped with DREYFUS as the start was affected. Raced towards the rear for the majority began to improve into the race from the home turn and ran on well.
DUN WITH ROSES- Began awkwardly as and made contact with the gates on jumping. raced at the rear of the field while wide for the majority of the event. Began to improve into the race from the 400m and finished the race off strongly over the concluding stages of the event.
RACE 5: ELDERS NOORAMA CUP BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP- 1400M
SHOALWATER BAY- Raced wide and towards the rear of the field for the majority of the event. Began to weaken from the 400m. Stewards acting under the provision of AR78 issued a Warning for the seemingly poor performance of the horse at today’s meeting.
VELOCE METEOR- Leaving the 400m shifted in to improve its position
LUCKY FORCE- Began awkwardly when jumping in and bumped with IL TORO D’ORO.
EDWARDS- Raced wide for the majority. Ducked in abruptly when leaving the 400m after being corrected by the rider began to improve into the race from the 200m and ran home well from that point.
BUTWEDID- Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority while at the rear of the field for the majority. Stewards acting under the provision of AR78 issued a Warning for the seemingly disappointing performance of the horse at today’s meeting.
IL TORO D’ORO- Dipped at the start and was then bumped shortly after.
