GENERAL
The following runner were declared late scratchings at 11:00am by order of Stewards when no riders were available:
Race 1- BAG OF WHIT
Race 1: ROB PICKING CONSTRUCTION / ELDERS BENCMHARK 55 HANDICAP 1200m
TURNSTAR- Jockey T Townsend was reminded of her obligations under AR131(b), to ride her mounts fully to the finish.
AGRIMONY- Slow into stride. Shifted very wide rounding the home turn to avoid the heavy kickback and finished somewhat tailed off.
RUPLETIER- Jockey T Banks advised that his mount did not appreciate the heavy kickback in the early and middle stages when racing with cover. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
BOSS BANDIT- Slow into stride and lost ground.
Race 2: GDL / QUILPIE SHIRE COUNCIL QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1100m
The start of the event was delayed when FILED OF MARS was considerably refused to load and HORNNIC was difficult to load.
FIELD OF MARS- Declared a late scratching at 2:02pm after refusing to load into the barriers. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 2:02pm:
41cents in the dollar for the win
Trainer G Bignell was advised the gelding would be required to satisfactorily complete two consecutive barrier trials prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
HORNNIC- Difficult to load. Trainer M Gavin was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding as a result.
TIGER BEANS: Attempted to buck soon after the start and lost ground. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have sustained a near-fore tendon injury. Trainer V Jones was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of ultrasounds before trialing satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
Race 3: SANTOS QUILPIE NEWMARKET OPEN HANDICAP 1100m
The start was delayed when KEENZAP was erroneously loaded into the incorrect barrier stall, having to be backed-out and proving reluctant to be re-loaded.
The start was further delayed when MON PIERRE became fractious in the barrier and Jockey A Bakos-Schrapel sustained an injury to her left leg. Jockey Bakor-Schrapel was examined by QAS officers before being transferred to Quilpie Hospital for further assessment and treatment. Jockey Bakos was advised she would require a medical clearance prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
KEENZAP- Crowded and obliged to steady near the 1000m.
HIDDEN EYES- Shifted in when not fully clear of KUDU near the 1000m, obliging that runner to be momentarily steadied and shifted in onto KEEN ZAP which was crowded and steadied, MAGICAL SLIPPER which was tightened and checked, LOST MEDIA which was tightened and checked, MISTERY EMPEROR was also obliged t shift in away from the heels of KUDU and in turn crowded the running of KAZZA’S JET which was restrained. Jockey T Townsend was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) and directed to display far greater care when in ensuring she is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
MAGICAL SLIPPER- Tightened and checked near the 1000m.
KAZZA’S JET- Tightened and restrained near the 1000m. Improved onto heels and shifted out near the 300m.
MON PIERRE- Fractious in the barrier, became momentarily cast and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 2:46pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 2:46pm:
21cents in the dollar for the win
17cents in the dollar for the place
Trainer A Webb was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
MISTERY EMPEROR- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Obliged to shift in away from heels near the 1000m.
KUDU- Obliged to steady and shift in to avoid heels near the 1000m.
LOST MEDIA- Tightened and obliged to check near the 1000m.
Race 4: QUILPIE LIVESTOCK TRANSPORTERS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1350m.
The start of this event was delayed approximately 8minutes due to earlier delays.
CRAZY RUSSIAN- Laid in under pressure down the running.
IN PEACE- Momentarily crowded near the 700m. Hung out for the majority and was unable to be ridden out in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the near-hind fetlock. Trainer J Hatch was advised the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
LASCO- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages before over-racing on heels near the 700m having to be restrained. Held up on heels approaching the 300m having to be shifted wider.
SHOALWATER BAY- Momentarily crowded near the 700m.
VOLDEMORT- Raced keenly in the middle stages before over-racing on heels near the 700m having to be restrained.
ROX’NROL- Blundered near the 350m and became unbalanced. As a result was not pressured in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
READY MADE- Stewards permitted App S Robbins to replace Jockey A Bakos-Schrapel as rider of the gelding when no other senior rider was available. Shifted in and momentarily crowded IN PEACE and SHOALWATER BAY near the 700m. App S Robbins was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident.
Race 5: BAGULEY BUILD QUILPIE CUP BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1586m
PORKY- Stewards permitted Jockey T Banks to be substituted as rider of the gelding. Began awkwardly and shifted in.
AL ASH LAD- Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid out under pressure down the running, bumped near the 100m.
LEGISLATE- Laid in under pressure down the running, bumped near the 100m.
BEGDEN- Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages. Took the home turn wide. Laid in under pressure down the running.
TOO MUCH CLASS- Dwelt in the barrier and was slow into stride, losing ground as a result. Tailed to the field throughout. Failed to finish. Jockey T Townsend advised that her mount had been reluctant to respond to her urgings throughout the event and may have resented the heavy kickback after being slow away. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer L Baker was advised the mare would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
