SCRATCHINGS – Race 2 Austral Diamond, Outcast Soldier, Wholelottalove Race 3 Arik Lad.Race 4. Vancouver Bay, Yellowstone Beth, Race 5. Candlelit, Superstella.
The following runners were scratched as no riders were available.
Race 4: Glassout, Polly Hoffa
RACE 1: GD & LM Lonsdale Benchmark 65 Handicap 1000m
Restrictions - Marginally slow to begin before being ridden forward to lead.
Chaseton – Fractious in the barriers.
Card Board Cut Out – After beginning well and racing forward and wide,
the mare commenced to buck at the 900 metres for three strides and lost ground.
Trainer T Parry was advised that Card Board Cut Out will be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
RACE 2: Federal Hotel Class B Handicap 1000m
School Fees (NZ) – Trainer R Krogh’s explaination for the late notification of rider
was accepted. Raced wide throughout.
Hellarama – Jumped awkwardly and then raced wide throughout.
Haveabeerforted – Slow into stride and then hampered by Whiskey River which
had jumped awkwardly.
Whiskey River –
Jumped out at the start and hampered Haveabeerforted which had been
marginally slow to begin. Failed to muster early pace and ran wide when improving
from the 600 meters. Apprentice L. Mankelow in the company of Senior rider M.
McDonald was questioned regarding the riding action she adopted between
the 180 metres and the 100 metres where it was noted that Apprentice L.Mankelow
stopped riding for a short distance. Apprentice Mankelow advised that she was
of the opinion that the gelding appeared short in its action in the forelegs.
A post race veterinary examination revealed mild bruising to the off hind hock.
RACE 3: Mud Hut Maiden Plate 1200m
Irish Gift – Trainer N Coves advised Stewards that he would be instructing Apprentice S Nielson to ride the gelding further forward today. Ridden accordingly. Jumped awkwardly. Ran wide when leading making the home turn.
On returning to scale, Apprentice S Nielson advised she had been struck on the left side of the face by a fractious Irish Gift when riding back to the parade ring and was suffering vision issues.
After receiving ambulance attention, Apprentice S Nielson was unable to fulfill her remaining engagement in Race 4. A medical clearance will be required before Apprentice S Nielson again rides.
Sacred Belief (NZ) – Jumped out and checked Smart Color which was also contacted by Insain Flame which had jumped in.
Insain Flame - Jumped awkwardly.
Smart Colour - Severely checked on jumping.
Up to Us – Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination in the mounting enclosure revealed a large stone caught in the hoof frog in the near side fore plate. Further examination later revealed no reportable issues.
RACE 4: Richmond Freight Centre Ratings Band 0-55 Handicap 1200m
Zequel – The saddle shifted well back on the gelding making the home corner as the Zequel started to concede ground sharply. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Crown Reach – Commenced to pull hard when checked and held up for clear running making the home turn behind the tiring Zequel. Eased wider on straightening and did not obtain clear running until the150 metres.
Oligarchy – Declared a late scratching at 3.50 p.m. due to the declared rider Apprentice S Nielson being injured in the previous event. As no other rider was available, Oligarchy was declared a late scratching at 3.11 p.m.
The following deductions were applied on all bets made prior to 3.11 p.m. –
1st - 12 cents win - 11 cents place
2nd - 11 cents place
3rd- 11 cents place.
The Tyler – Slow into stride. Raced wide. Hung in abruptly at the 100 metres requiring rider M McDonald to stop riding and straighten his mount,
The Boi - Raced three wide throughout.
RACE 5: SJ & SA Rural Contracting QTIS Class 3 Plate 1400m
Joy McCoy (NZ) – Reared as the gates opened and then collided withHuracanevo.
Summer Sizzling – Hung in down the running, rider M McDonald reported
that Summer Sizzling tended to hang in throughout the race and that
he had suggested to trainer R Hermann that he consider changing the bit on
the gelding.
Huracanevo – Jumped awkwardly colliding withJoy McCoy (NZ)
Magic Game – Slow to begin and failed to muster speed in the early
and middle stages.
