1. This meeting was conducted under the regulations of the QRIC Caring for Animals Extreme Heat Policy.
2. The following runners were declared a late scratching at 9:00am due to no rider being available:

Race 1: BASALT GRAZING BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1000M
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, apprentice Shae Nielson, rider of 2nd placegetter NAPOLEON STRIKE, reviewed the film on return to scale. After reviewing the available footage, rider Nielson elected to take no further action and correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers.
NAPOLEON STRIKE – Checked nearing the 500 metres when RESTRICTIONS hung out, and as a result became unbalanced and lost ground.
RESTRICTIONS – Nearing the 500 metres, hung out and checked NAPOLEON STRIKE, which became unbalanced and lost ground.
FABULOUS HOFFA – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
OLIGARCHY – Dipped on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Taken wider rounding the home turn when RESTRICTIONS hung out.
Race 2: GD & LM LONSDALE BUILDER QTIS Maiden Platw 1000M
TALLULAH – Very slow to begin and when doing so began awkwardly.
THE JILLAROO – THE JILLAROO was declared a late scratching at 11:37am after refusing to load into the barriers. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on THE JILLAROO be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st UNDER SUSPICION 20c win, 21c place
2nd WHISKEY DRY 21c place
Trainer Shryn Royes was advised that THE JILLAROO must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
BUZ FUZ – Stewards allowed apprentice rider Shae Nielson to ride BUZ FUZ at the allocated weight of 58.0kg. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon arrival at the barriers and was passed fit to race. Very slow to begin and when doing so began awkwardly. Raced greenly throughout. Finished distanced from the field. Given that today was BUZ FUZ’s first race start, Trainer Tanya Parry was advised a warning would be placed on the colt’s record regarding its competitiveness. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a possible injury to the shoulder region. Trainer Parry was further advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to BUZ FUZ racing again.
Race 3: AJM PASTORAL BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1200M
GARDENZIO – Began awkwardly and when doing so contacted the barriers. Crowded shortly after the start when THE TYLER shifted in, losing ground. Raced wide in the early stages.
THE TYLER – Shifted in on jumping crowding GARDENZIO. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
JOY MCCOY (NZ) – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin.
Race 4: VEEMONT HOLDINGS CLASS B Handicap 1200M
IRISH GIFT – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to race. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
SHEZ LETHAL – Began very awkwardly and shifted in hampering WHISKEY RIVER, which lost ground. Raced keenly in the early stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure throughout the final straight.
WHISKEY RIVER – Hampered on jumping, losing ground.
Race 5: GREAT ARTESIAN VETERINARY SURGERY OPEN Handicap 1400M
OCEAN EMPEROR – Apprentice rider Shae Nielson reported that OCEAN EMPEROR travelled too keenly in the lead and was not able to close off in the home straight as expected.
HURICANE THUNDER – Shifted out on jumping bumping with SUMMER SIZZLING. Stewards adjourned an inquiry into apprentice rider Maddie Mankelow’s whip use in the final straight so that enhanced vision of the race could be viewed and assessed.
SUMMER SIZZLING – Shifted in on jumping bumping with HURRICANE THUNDER. Rider Shane McGovern reported at scale that SUMMER SIZZLING failed to pick up the bit throughout and was disappointed with the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
