TRACK RATING
Following a track inspection stewards upgraded the track rating from SOFT (6) to SOFT (5) at 12.00 noon.
Race 1: Horseland Rockhampton QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap - 1050 metres
1st LEGAL PROCEDURE 2nd CRAIGLEA ZIP 3rd CRAIGLEA JABIRU 4th - CRAIGLEA ARNIE
CRAIGLEA WISE - When App. T. Williams was to be overweight and no other rider was available at the weight, permission was given for App.Williams to claim only 2kg of her 3kg allowance. App. Williams was fined $200 under A.R. 92(12) for failing to claim her full allowance.
CRAIGLEA ARNIE - Crowded for room at the start. Following the race the Club's veterinary surgeon reported that the colt had sustained lacerations to the near foreleg.
CRAIGLEA ZIP - Over-raced in the early stages.
Race 2: South Geldard Lawyers Maiden Handicap - 1300 metres
1st LITTLE MOUNTAIN 2nd KOKO CLANG 3rd DISORDER 4th - RAPID DRAGON
GENERAL BEERS, BUZZING TIMBREL, COME ON HUSS and CRITIC'S CORNER were all slow to begin.
DISORDER - Over-raced early.
JOFFA VALOUR - Near the 400 metres was held up and unable to obtain clear running.
AZZURAYER - When questioned Jockey C.Whiteley stated that the gelding never travelled in today's track conditions and was off the bit for most of the race. He said that the horse failed to respond, despite his urgings and was most disappointing. Trainer Mr J. Manzelmann was unable to offer any explanation for the gelding's disappointing performance, however had recovered quickly following the event, indicating that it had had an easy run. Mr Manzelmann added that his intention was to space the horse's future runs. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. He was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding's racing manners.
Race 3: Tony Madden Architects Handicap - 1400 metres
1st POWER RANGER 2nd MOTORISED 3rd LEXCEN 4th - ROC 'DA FLOOR
FERMENT - Was slow to begin.
Race 4: City Printing Works BenchMark60 Handicap - 1500 metres
1st DIXIE MISS 2nd MANDALONG CATATAC 3rd MONTANA HERO 4th - MAKOSSA
MOKASSA - Hung in badly in the home straight.
DIXIE MISS - Apprentice S. Fawke was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in on a number of occasions whilst being ridden with the whip in the home straight, causing slight inconvenience to MONTANA HERO.
MONTANA HERO - Inconvenienced in the home straight.
MANDALONG CATATAC - The rider reported that his mount usually races up on the speed, however connections decided that, as there was no speed in the race, he should endeavour to lead. When able to do so in the early stages the mare travelled a little keenly and was inclined to go faster so he elected, rather than fight it, to allow it to run along, though he was not concerned with the tempo of the event generally. Jockey Stanley added that he was unaware of the lead his mount had established in the middles stages but did not believe that this was detrimental to the horse's overall performance.
Race 5: Rockhampton Business Machines Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap - 1050 metres
1st PIPIT 2nd OUR MAGIC MADGE 3rd EXCLUSIVE KTITY 4th - PRETTY KITTY
EKKAREEZA - After being placed in the barriers became very fractious and backed out of its stall. The filly was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. Following the race the filly was again examined by the veterinary surgeon, who reported that the horse had minor lacerations to its nearside stifle and off hind hock, but in her opinion were not significant.

Race 6: Mel Slade KNM Insurance Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1 Handicap - 1050 metres
1st - WINGED WARRIOR 2nd - ZAHA DREAM 3rd - SPIRIT BEAT 4th - AUTHENTIC SWING
SCRATCHY and SPIRIT BEAT - Slow to begin.
DOUBLE RICH - In the early stages raced wide and over-raced.
Race 7: XXXX Gold Class 3 Plate - 1300 metres
1st - ROWEINER 2nd - EAGLE SHAMAN 3rd - MONBAZZILLAC 4th - SUTTON LUKE
LITTLE WHITE DOVE - Stood flat-footed and missed the start by a considerable distance. Trainer J. Pointon indicated that he now intends to retire the filly from racing. Nevertheless, he was advised that the filly will be required to perform satisfactorily in a jump-out before racing again.
EMOTIONALLY YOURS - Was slow to begin.
MONBAZILLAC - Began very awkwardly.
