Race 1: Springton Park Spelling Farms BenchMark 65 Handicap - 1600 metres
1st MAUGHAN 2nd SPIRIT BEAT 3rd PRICELESS HEART 4th - MANILA ACADEMY
PRICELESS HEART - Was presented in the enclosure with a brow band and blinkers. As that combination of equipment is not permissible under the rules, the brow band was removed and stewards gave permission for the gelding race with blinkers. Stewards will follow up this matter. Near the 1100 metres raced awkwardly to the inside of MANCHEBO, rolled in MANILA ACADEMY had to be steadied.
SPIRIT BEAT - Over-raced for a short distance leaving the 1200 metres.
MAUGHAN - Lost the off fore plate in running.
SUPPOSING - Rider reported that his mount was disappointing and may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer confirmed that the gelding will now be spelled.
Race 2: Hansens Catering Maiden Handicap - 1300 metres
1st COOLOWIE 2nd WAR NOISE 3rd MAGIC FISH 4th - FONDUE
GRAND HOTEL - Raced wide throughout.
Race 3: Wade Hunt IT QTIS 2YO Fillies Handicap - 1100 metres
1st STIRLING GIRL 2nd THE GIRLS IN PARIS 3rd CRAIGLEA ZIP 4th - SHROUDED
SHROUDED - Slow to begin.
ZANNYAH - Slow to begin.
BREAKFAST SHOW - Began awkwardly and lost ground, then raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer S. Sigvart confirmed that the filly will now be sent for a spell. Nevertheless, having regard to its most recent performances stewards ordered that the filly must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again.
THE GIRLS IN PARIS - Near the 900 metres over-raced on the heels of another runner, was shifted out and raced wide for the remainder of the event.
CRAIGLEA ZIP - Rider reported that his saddle slipped forward shortly after the start. He said that he had been instructed to take up a position with cover, but was unable to do so.
STIRLING GIRL - Was fractious in the placegetters stall and sustained a laceration to the near hind that will require treatment. Stewards will follow up with the Trainer in the coming days.
Race 4: Dooley and Bryant QTIS 2YO Colts and Geldings Handicap - 1100 metres
1st THE LAD'S MY DAD 2nd PEGUNNY KID 3rd DUKE OF EIGHT 4th - PRINCE RAHEEB
DUKE OF EIGHT - Jumped inwards at the start, taking THE LAD'S MY DAD in onto another runner. When questioned regarding the performance, the rider stated that he had raced well throughout the event, however was under pressure leaving the 500 metres. He added that, taking into account the three weeks break between runs and the step up in distance for its next start, he was not completely disappointed with the performance. Jockey B. Stewart was reminded of his obligation regarding the use of the whip in consecutive strides.
CRAIGLEA BLITZ - Bumped at the start. Near the 600 metres shifted out and bumped another runner. In the early stages laid in and brushed the running rail on occasion, then was inclined to over-race in the middle stages and near the 700 metres when racing to the inside of DUKE OF EIGHT, was restrained and again made contact with the running rail. Jockey Coome further stated that he was instructed to obtain cover, however he was of the opinion that the gelding would be better suited if ridden closer to the lead. He added that the horse's racing manners were detrimental to its performance.
PEGUNNY KID - Was slow to begin and was then hampered when taken in onto another runner.
MCCAPHE – Slow to begin, bumped by another runner at the start.
THE LAD'S MY DAD - At the start taken in onto another runner. Near the 300 metres shifted out and bumped another runner.
COUNTER MEAL - Bumped near the 300 metres.
Race 5: Regional Insurance Brokers (CQ) Pty Ltd QTIS 3YO Handicap - 1300 metres
1st EXECUTED 2nd MISCHIEVOUS DEVIL 3rd ONEMORENOBLEDANCER 4th - RICH REWARD
STARLET GIRL - Slow to begin.
ONEMORENOBLEDANCER - Shifted in at the start and bumped QUICK ASSAULT.
RICH REWARD - At the start began awkwardly, shifted outwards and lost ground.
STYLISH LUCK - Over-raced near the 900 metres.
QUICK ASSAULT - Bumped at the start. Near the 900 metres had to be steadied from heels and shifted out.
Race 6: SMW Group Open Handicap - 1300 metres
1st - EL SUPREMO 2nd - MCCONACHY 3rd - IMBOSTERIA 4th - MOTORISED
LEO'S SPIRIT - Slow to begin.
EL SUPREMO - Slow to begin. Stewards questioned Trainer D Gardiner regarding the apparent improved performance of the gelding. He stated that at its most recent start the gelding raced too far back in the field and today benefited from his claim. The explanation was noted.
MAGIC WALTZ - Slow to begin.
AQUATORIAL - Was slow to begin, jumped awkwardly, and then raced wide throughout. Apprentice Q. Krogh was reprimanded under A.R. 142 for failing to weigh in for 5th.
IMBOSTERIA - Rider questioned as to why he led, contrary to the horse's usual racing pattern. Jockey Hellyer said that his instructions were to take up a forward position however he had not intended to lead. However, due to the lack of early pace his mount commenced to over-race and he allowed it to assume the lead.
MINTARO - When asked to explain the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding, Jockey Stewart stated that connections were not completely confident going into the race as it had failed to race well first-up in the past and given the distance of today’s event. He said that he placed his mount under pressure and from the 400 metres it had failed to respond. Jockey Stewart was of the opinion that the horse would take benefit from the run. Post-race veterinary inspection did not reveal any abnormalities.
Race 7: Larsen’s Air Conditioning Hire Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st - MANDALONG CATATAC 2nd - BAY RUST 3rd - VIRTUITY 4th - SHE’S GOT BEAUTY
AUTOVON - Was slow to begin.
VIRTUITY - Near the 900 metres attempted to obtain a position to the inside of another runner, shifted in, clipped heels and blundered. Near the 200 metres shifted out and bumped MARBLE MAID on two occasions resulting in that filly being taken out onto AUTOVON.
