Race 1: The Capricornian Maiden H’cap – 1050m

BEYONCNEIGH – Stewards acceded to a request for the late removal of the tongue-tie from the mares gear after trainer T Cook advised he was unable to apply the gear during the saddling process.  Jumped away awkwardly. In the vicinity of the 900m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of GREAT LOOKER, which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.  Laid in under pressure in the straight.

DUBAI ME A SAGA – Slow to begin and failed to muster early gate speed. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

GREAT LOOKER – Laid in in the early stages. Raced green under pressure over the concluding stages.

BOLD THALIA – In the vicinity of the 900m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of LOVE’S BEST HOPE, which shifted in when insufficiently clear.  Jockey S. Wiseman, rider of LOVE’S BEST HOPE, was reminded of her obligations to stop riding and straighten her mounts when they shift ground in future.

LOVE’S BEST HOPE – Rider reported her mount hung out throughout the event.

Race 2: XXXX Gold QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap -  1400m

NOT LIABLE –  As jockey R. Oakford was to be overweight,  jockey P. Romeo was substituted as the rider of the horse. Jockey Oakford was reprimanded.

ATTARD – After arriving at the barriers it was noticed that the bandages that were part of the geldings gear had slipped down and could not be reapplied. As such stewards permitted the bandages to be removed.  In the vicinity of the 1100m had to be steadied after improving onto heels.

ESPEREUS – Slow to begin. In the vicinity of the 1000m had to be steadied to avoid heels after the pace of the race slackened.

DREAM LAD – In the vicinity of the 1000m had to be steadied to avoid heels after the pace of the race slackened. Overraced in the early and middle stages. When questioned regarding the performance of DREAM LAD jockey C. Jokic stated that after beginning awkwardly and overracing in the early and middle stages her mount failed to settle into stride and was disappointing in its finishing effort.  A post race veterinary examination  revealed a slight nasal discharge.

LLANO – In the vicinity of the 1000m had to be steadied to avoid heels after the pace of the race slackened. In the vicinity of the 300m was obliged to alter course and shift in to avoid the heels of the weakening SIR SKYWALKER.  When questioned regarding the performance of LLANO, jockey C. Whiteley stated that his mount was disadvantaged by the slow tempo of the race.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

GOLDEN TREASURE – In the vicinity of the 1000m had to be steadied to avoid heels after the pace of the race slackened.

SIR SKYWALKER – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

Race 3: Club 150 2020 Benchmark 60 H’cap – 1050m

MARCHING ORDERS – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the home straight, jockey S. Wiseman stated her mount was reluctant to improve into a run to the inside of CSARDAS in the early stages, and as such elected to shift out approaching the 400m to obtain clear running. She added that she was mindful that her mount had a short sprint, so elected to not place her mount under full pressure until the 150m and in her opinion ran to the line only fairly. Stewards advised Jockey Wiseman that in their opinion once she had elected to shift out from the vicinity of the 400m, she should have shown greater vigour in an attempt to improve onto the back of the eventual winner ALL PICKLED and had erred in judgement waiting to the 150m to place her mount under full pressure. Stewards added that even though in their opinion her lack of vigour did not cost MARCHING ORDERS from obtaining a better position in the field, advised Jockey Wiseman in future to ride her mounts in a manner that does not invite question. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

DOUBLE EM – Hampered on jumping away.

FLEWSHOT – Jumped away awkwardly. Shifted out abruptly, contacting DOUBLE EM.

FAVOUR OF GOD – Slow to begin.

Race 4: Iron Jack Open H’cap – 1200m

ALERT BY SEA – Slow into stride.

Loakes advised that the horse would now be retired.  Stewards advised Mr Loakes that nevertheless BIANCHI BRAVO would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards if the gelding is to return to racing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 6: Happy New Year Everyone From The RJC Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1600m

KIA ORA CHOICE – Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 5.02 pm after being found to be lame in the near hindleg.  Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable.

1 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets for the place
1 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets
1 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets

Trainer Mr K. Miller was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to a future race start.

Correct weight was delayed to allow the  connections of CRAIGLEA CETINA  to view the official patrol films in relation to the mare being declared a non-runner due to being held in the barrier stalls.  After hearing submissions from jockey C. Jokic, stewards were of the opinion that as the start was effected CRAIGLEA CETINA dropped its head of its own accord and was not held by the barrier attendent and as such was declared a runner.

Correct weight was also delayed to allow connections of MEATBALL to view the official patrol films in relation to lodging a protest. After viewing the films connections declined to lodge an objection.

HOWICK – Stood flatfooted as the start was effected and as a result was slow into stride.  Trainer A. Coome was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of the mare.
