GENERAL
As Jockey L Tilley was unable to make the weight on Better Than Groovy in Race 6 due to covid restrictions, Stewards permitted the late change as per the stewards race day summary.
 
Race 1: AB Maiden Handicap 1300 metres
 
MAGNATE – Slow to begin.
 
MOONSHINER – Jumped away awkwardly. Approaching the 1100m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of SCANDINA which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey N. Callow, rider of SCANDIANA, was reminded of his obligation to be clear when shifting ground in future. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and had to shift out to improve. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
GOLDEN OUTBACK – Rider R. Wiggins was fined $200 under the provisions of AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the finish.
 
WAY BACK WHEN – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
 
SCANDINA – Rider reported that his whip became entangled in his face mask on jumping placing him at a disadvantage in the early stages of the event.
 
SETHLANS – top of straight
 
ZIMBOOMBAH – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
MAX'N'MAT – Raced in restricted room passing the 1100m making contacting with the running rail.
 
FLECKERL – Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 1100m
 
SPRING AFFAIR – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
Race 2: ACE WEDDING & PARTY HIRE QTIS Two-Years-Old and Three-Years-Old Maiden 1200 metres
 
TABMAN – Raced fiercely throughout. Approaching the 1000m shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. Passing the 700m shifted out abruptly and continued to hang out for the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
IRRUPT – Momentarily inconvenienced shortly after jumping away.
 
HAMLET VON SNITZEL – Rider R Maloney was fined $200 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. When determining penalty stewards took into account this was Jockey Maloney’s tenth breach of this rule since August 2020.
 
FAIRYBOWER FLYER – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Raced wide throughout the event. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
BEL'S DESIRE – Passing the 800m was hampered by TABMAN which laid out. Laid out when placed under pressure in the straight.
 
DAUNTING PRINCESS – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
FINAL CRIME – A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
 
Race 3: #ExploreRockhampton BM65 Handicap 1050 metres
 
PERFECT KNOWLEDGE – Slow to begin. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
BELZU – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
NO REFUND – Jumped away awkwardly. Held up for clear running
 
GRANDIOSO – Slow to begin. Held up passing the 400m and had to shift out to improve into clear running.
 
Race 4: THE ROCKS 0 - 55 Handicap 1600 metres
 
PROVOCATIVE MAN – Raced wide throughout the event. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Rider J Baker was suspended under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on ten occasions prior to the 100m, five more than permitted. Jockey Bakers licence to ride in race was suspended for a period of eleven days to commence midnight 9 July 2021 and to conclude midnight 20 July 2021. In determining penalty stewards took into account this was Jockey Bakers third offence since 8 August 2020.
 
TAVI MCBRIDE – Slow to begin.
 
FLEETINGLY – Passing the 300m had to take hold when disappointed for a run.
 
SHE'S IMPERIAL – When questioned in relation to the performance of SHE’S IMPERIAL, jockey R Wiggins stated that his mount was under pressure entering the home straight and failed to respond to his riding. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
TACTICAL MANUEVER – Stewards permitted the mare to wear blinkers as it was ascertained that TACTICAL MANUEVER had worn them blinkers throughout this preparation.
 
BOOM RAIDER – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin. Laid out when placed under pressure in the straight.
 
Race 5: DRACARYS BELLE OF CAPRICORNIA Fillies and Mares BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1400 metres
 
BOLD EOS – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin.
 
BUCKLE UP BABY – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 6: GREAT NORTHERN Class 6 Handicap 1200 metres
 
GYPSY BIKER – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
REVENIRE – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
HI HARRY – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Approaching the 200m blundered and almost dislodged its rider after clipping the heels of ZATORIO who was carried out by VELERO who was also carried out by EMMA’S JET who was carried out by USURP which shifted out when insufficiently clear to do so. Jockey M. McGillivray, rider of USURP, was charged under the provisions of AR131(a) and pleaded not guilty. Following a request from Jockey McGillivray to ask further questions of Jockeys who had left the course, stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed.
 
USURP – Held up for clear running approaching the 200m and had to shift out to improve into clear running.
 
EMMA'S JET – severely hampered passing the 200m after having to be restrained to avoid the heels of USURP which shifted out when insufficiently clear.
 
BETTER THAN GROOVY – Stewards permitted the late rider change of Jockey B. Thompson.
 
COACH – Jumped away awkwardly contacting the outside barrier partition.
 
ZATORIO – Jumped away awkwardly. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 200m after having its hindquarters contacted.  
 
Race 7: THE REAL GROUP NEWMARKET Handicap 1300 metres
 
 
LAST CHANCE – Held up for clear running passing the 300m and had to shift out to improve into clear running. Jockey A Butler was fined $300 under the provisions of AR131(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the finish.
 
MASTER JAMIE – Hampered on jumping away.
 
LANGHRO – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin.
 
DOCTOR ZOUS – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of thumps.
 
PRIORITISE – Slow to begin.
 
VALARIO – Trainer N McCall was fined $100 under the provisions of AR206(3) for presenting VALARIO in the incorrect gear.
 
Race 8: RTON MINI LOADS KEN RUSSELL MEMORIAL Class 2 Handicap 1300 metres
 
SISTA ELENORE – Difficult to load, trainer Mr D Hanson was advised that SISTA ELENORE would be required to gain a further barrier certificate prior to accepting for a future race.
 
SMARTCELLI – Slow to begin.
 
DACXI KABOOM – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event.
 
CASSAVANCE – Raced wide throughout the event. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 400m.
