GENERAL
 
As Jockey N. Day was absent from today’s meeting due to flight disruptions replacements were made as per the Stewards summary.
 
Due to current covid restrictions the following overweight allowances were approved –
 
Race 2: JIMBO JONES – Justin Stanley + 0.5kg
Race 4: SCORPIO RISING (NZ) – Carl Spry + 0.5kg
 
As Jockey L Tilley was overweight in Races 5 and 6, he was subsequently replaced as per the Steward’s Summary. Jockey L Tilley was fined $1,000 under AR190(3) for accepting rides when subsequently overweight. When determining an appropriate penalty, Stewards considered that this was Jockey Tilley’s fourteenth offence in the previous 12 months under AR190(3).
 
As Apprentice D McGillivray failed to claim his full allowance in Race 4 he was permitted to take the ride when no other rider was available. He was replaced when unable to claim his full allowance in Races 6 and 8 as per the Steward’s Summary. Apprentice McGillivray was fined $500 under the provisions of AR143(14)(a).
 
As Jockey S Fawke was overweight and replaced in Races 3 and 5. Replacements made as per the Stewards Summary. Mr Fawke was also overweight in Race 8 and due to no other riders being available Stewards permitted him to take his mount. Jockey Fawke was fined $500 under the provisions of AR190(3).
 
 
Race 1: CLUB 150 2022 QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1050 metres Q
 
THINKICANGIDDYUPGO – Began awkwardly.
 
BONAUGURA – Began awkwardly bumping BETTER RAIN. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
BETTER RAIN – Bumped on jumping. Steadied when awkwardly placed at heels near the 800m.
 
BRIGHT AND READY – Began awkwardly. Held up from the 650m until the early part of the home straight.
 
VALTINO – Over raced and got onto heels passing the 700m. Shifted in abruptly over the concluding stages.
 
MY DAD’S BETTER – Fractious in barrier, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Made the bend awkwardly. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer P. Fleming was advised a warning would be placed on the filly for its barrier manners.
 
 
Race 2: BECOME A MEMBER IN 2022 QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
AS GOOD AS READY – Began awkwardly and made contact with JIMBO JONES. Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
JIMBO JONES – Began awkwardly bumping AS GOOD AS READY. Upon returning to scale Jockey J. Stanley advised that his mount was inclined to hand in from the 600m and as a result proved difficult to ride out.
 
BAY’S SPIRIT – Shifted out to avoid heels near the 800m.
 
CODY ALTEM – Awkward in its action in the early stages. Tailed off from the 600m taking no further competitive part in the event. Upon returning to scale Jockey A. Sewell advised that shortly after jumping his saddle slipped and as a result he was unable to fully test his mount throughout the event.
 
 
Race 3: GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1600 metres
 
CUBIX – Inclined to lay in throughout.
 
TONTEIN – Raced keen in the early and middle stages. When questioned regarding the improved performance trainer L Petersen advised that TONTEIN races well at Rockhampton recently and had appreciated the extra distance of todays race.
 
AERIAL COMBAT – Upon returning to scale jockey S. Stanley advised that his mount was inclined to hang out from the 700m and as a result proved difficult to ride out. He further advised it did flatten out in the home straight running on in a satisfactory manner .
 
SIZZLEPEL – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from one nostril. Trainer P Fleming was advised that under the provisions of AR79(8) SIZZLEPEL must gallop over 1,000m to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.   
 
 
Race 4: 2022 CAPRICORNIA YEARLING SALE Maiden Plate 1300 metres
 
IL CALZINO – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 300m. Rider R Higgins was reminded of his obligations to ensure he rides his mounts out fully to the line.
 
REFUTATION – Began awkwardly making contact with MY MATE VINNY.
 
MY MATE VINNY – Bumped on jumping. Shifted out at the 300m placing IL CALZINO in restricted room for a short distance.
 
MANDOLIN WIND – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
REGAL FIELD – Slow to begin. Upon returning to scale Rider A. Patis advised the mare felt awkward in its action throughout and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
FACTOR THAT IN – Raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained in the early stages. Steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of MANDOLIN WIND, which shifted out despite the efforts of its rider near the 1200 metres. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer S Rundle advised Stewards that after returning from its most recent spell the gelding has improved in its work and as such he expected a forward showing performance today.
 
WHOOPIE WOOP TRAIN – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
PEERLESS CRUISE – Began awkwardly.
 
SURMISE – Jockey C Whiteley was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 prior to the 100m.
 
 
Race 5: FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK OPEN Handicap 1300 metres
 
BOGEY MAN – Began awkwardly.
 
CAVALERO – Began awkwardly. Race wide without cover for the majority. 
 
VELARO – Began awkwardly and lost ground and as a result settled further back than anticipated.
 
 
Race 6: TAB BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1200 metres
 
BUSTER MOON – Over raced near the 800m placing the rider in difficulty. Shifted out abruptly near the 750m. Apprentice T Townsend was fined $400 for using her whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100m 3 more than permitted. Stewards took into account that this was Apprentice Townsend’s fourth offence under AR132(7)(a)(ii).
 
DR NEIGH – Commenced to buck shortly after the start, shifted outwards and lost ground. Trainer T. Cook was advised the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
ORNATE – Had to take evasive action shortly after the start when DR NEIGH commenced to buck. Jockey S Fawke was fined $300 for using his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii).
 
ROC DE KHAPER (NZ) – Bumped with BUSTER MOON near the 800m and was forced wider on the track.
 
NEW YORK WORLD – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
 
Race 7: BROOKVALE UNION GINGER BEER Class 3 Plate 1050 metres
 
CAPTAIN FOX - Over raced in the middle stages.
 
DAUNTING PRINCESS – Made contact with the inside running rail near the 50m with rider A Sewell having to correct his mount.
 
PRINCE OF VENICE – Slow to begin.
 
HAVASHOUT – Disappointed for a run near the 200m.
 
BRIGALOW BOY – Shifted out to obtain clear running near the 900m when KASHKAR was forced to restrain. Raced wide for the majority. Improved onto heels and was forced to shift out near the 700m. When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey J Stanley stated that the gelding had trialled once prior to its start today after a lengthy spell. He further stated that the gelding travelled well throughout however failed to finish the event strongly and that the gelding would draw benefit from today’s run.
 
KASHKAR – Steadied to avoid heels near the 900m when SHEMADEMEDOIT shifted in. Apprentice T. Townsend was advised to exercise more care.
 
 
Race 8: HAPPY NEW YEAR Class 1 Handicap 1400 metres
 
BOLD PEDRO – Near the 1100m improved onto the heels of DAWNSTAR and had to be steadied.
 
FLEETINGLY – Stood flat footed and lost ground at the start.
 
LEGAL CHANCE – Shifted out abruptly near the 1100m. Jockey J Stanley advised that the gelding over raced for the majority of the race and failed to let down over the final stages.
 
MOTHERLODE - Began awkwardly.
 
LUCKY ENUFF – Began awkwardly. Steady from heels near the 1100m. Over raced for a short distance near the 1000m.
 
I AM CLEVER – Held up for a short distance near the 300m.
 
SILVER LUCY – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
SECLUSION – Near 1100m had to steady when awkwardly placed at the heels of LEGAL CHANCE which was racing ungenerously.
 
COUNTYA FALLS (NZ) – Slow to begin.
