After viewing the available patrol footage, Jockey A. Butler the rider of MOCIAL CHIEF, placed fourth by the judge, lodged an objection against BOMBASAY being placed third, alleging interference at the 900m and the 400m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the available patrol footage, Stewards found that although MOCIAL CHIEF received interference at both the 900m and 400m, the degree of interference suffered did not warranted a reversal of the placings, particularly giving consideration to the official margin of three quarters of a length. Stewards therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the judges placings.

MOCIAL CHIEF – At a point near the 900m, clipped heels and blundered when BOMBASAY hung in despite the best efforts of it’s rider. Near the 400m was tightened for room, checked and forced to shift outwards when BOMBASAY, shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey P. Hamblin, the rider of BOMBASAY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that at a point near the 400m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MOCIAL CHIEF resulting in that runner being tightened for room, checked and lost ground. As a result, Jockey P. Hamblin’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven days to commence midnight 14/1/2023 and to conclude midnight 21/1/2023.

BOMBASAY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Hung in from the 900m-500m. Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey P. Hamblin was issued a reprimand under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for his use of the whip 6 times prior to the 100m.
