Stewards permitted overweights as per the race day summary
Following a further inspection the track was downgraded to a Heavy 9 at 9:38am.
Stewards questioned trainer G Richardson in relation to the reasons behind TAYLOR’S RAGE being accepted and subsequently scratched out of race 1. Mr Richardson explained that he had every intention to start the horse however was unable to load it on the float to travel up to Rockhampton the day prior to the race meeting. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 1: TAB QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1050M
Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey J Stanley, rider of second placed CUDDLES FOR KIMMY, to view the photo finish. After jockey Stanley and stewards were satisfied with the judges numbers, correct weight was declared.
SARAQAEL – Raced keenly in the early stages. Inclined to lay out on occasions in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance Jockey W Satherley stated that it was the geldings first run after a short freshen up and would derive benefit from today’s run. He further added that the weight impost and wet track conditions may have proved detrimental in SARAQAEL’s finishing chances.
CUDDLES FOR KIMMY – Laid out when under pressure over the concluding stages.
EMERALD JOY – Held up for clear racing room until a point near the 300m.
Race 2: GREAT NORTHERN QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200M
The start was delayed significantly when GIAPPONESE proved very difficult to load. Trainer’s representative J Lee was advised that the colt would be stood down pending a satisfactory trial prior to racing again.
PROFITS PRAYER – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide in the early stages till a point approaching the 900m, when obtaining a position outside the leader. Raced greenly in the home straight.
GIAPPONESE – Slow into stride. Raced wide throughout.
GRUMPYWANTSATISSUE – Began awkwardly.
HEROIC TALENT – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
BUNGARRIBEE RAIN – Slow into stride. Inclined to lay out when under pressure in the home straight.
GRUMPYOLDCOL – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced greenly near the 700m contacting the running rail and blundered as a result, losing ground.
NEXT LEGACY – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced greenly in the home straight.
ELODIE'S RAINBOW – Bounded on jumping. Laid in when under pressure in the home straight.
Race 3: HAPPY BIRTHDAY CALLAGHAN PARK MAIDEN HANDICAP 1600M
BOOM CRUSHER – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout. Inclined to lay in when under pressure in the home straight.
HE'S POPLAR – Briefly raced in restricted room near the 1300m whilst racing keenly. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
CHECK ONE TWO – When questioned in the relation to seemingly poor performance Jockey S Cormack stated that his mount had failed to handle the heavy ground and after beginning only fairly, he elected to take a sit, and his mount failed to run on in the home straight.
FINE AND RARE – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
SHALANE – Began awkwardly.
HADMYTIME – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted in particular racing forward today, jockey R S Olivera explained that he was instructed to obtain a position closer to the lead which is consistent with its recent starts over similar distances. Stewards reviewed the geldings previous starts over a similar distance and were able to confirm the statements made by jockey Olivera.
MISHANI AMORE – Shifted in shortly after the start and was corrected by its rider. When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted, in particular, racing forward today jockey C Mclver stated that it was his intention to be positive however when there was a lack of pace to his inside, he elected to allow his mount to travel where comfortable and obtained a position in the lead during the early stages.
Race 4: PATRON DR. WILLIAM CALLAGHAN CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1050M
DEVIL DEVIL – Began awkwardly and slow into stride as a result.
LAST DITCH EFFORT – Shifted outwards on jumping. When questioned in relation to the performance jockey R Wiggins stated that his mount had travelled well throughout the early and middle stages and had responded to his urges in the early part of the home straight however had compounded over the final 200m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
CUMIN SPINNER – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
Race 5: CHAIRMAN ROBERT C. BOLAND OPEN HANDICAP 1050M
DOUBTING EYE – Raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned in relation to the performance jockey W Satherley stated that the gelding raced flat today and may be due for a spell.
FROSTY BEAR – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after making contact with the gate exiting the mounting yard and was cleared to start. Raced keenly in early stages.
Race 6: SECRETARY ROBERT R. DAWBARN BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200M
The start was delayed when LATIN LOVE proved difficult to load. Trainer R Stenhouse was advised that the mare would be stood down pending a satisfactory trial prior to racing again.
THE BRILL BUILDING – When questioned in relation to the performance jockey R Wiggins stated that it was his mounts first start on a heavy track and had travelled well in the early stages however failed to quicken in the home straight. Trainer R Vale could offer no explanation in relation to the performance. He further added that he would look to conduct blood tests in the coming days and report back to stewards any findings. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
IMMORTALITY – Raced wide throughout. Near the 900m was carried inwards by NORTHUMBIA and raced in restricted room for a number of strides. Inclined to hang inwards in the home straight until a point near the 400m and then commenced to lay out over the concluding stages.
NORTHUMBRIA – Raced wide in the early stages. Shifted inwards near the 900m carrying IMMORTALITY inwards placing NEPTUNE LEGEND in restricted room.
SANTORINI SUMMER – Inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight.
NICCONORI – Laid in under pressure and had to be corrected on occasion by its rider.
GRAECI – Began very awkwardly and as a result slow into stride. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
NEPTUNE LEGEND – Raced in restricted room near the 900m when IMMORTALITY was carried inwards by NORTHUMBRIA. Jockey W Satherley (NORTHUMBRIA) was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding for shifting ground when insufficiently clear of other runners.
LATIN LOVE – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Held up for clear racing room until a point near the 400m. Near the 200m switched outwards across the heels of IMMORTALITY to maintain clear racing room.
Race 7: CALLAGHAN PARK 126 YEARS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1200M
OBLIGATED – Inclined to lay outwards when under pressure in the home straight. When questioned in relation to the poor performance jockey A Butler stated that the heavy weight impost in combination with the heavy track conditions it proved detrimental to the gelding’s finishing chances. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
SCRUB CHAIN – Began awkwardly, marginally impeding KAI MONDO. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
KAI MONDO – Marginally impeded at the start by SCRUB CHAIN. Over raced in the early stages.
ELECTRIC BRAE – Began awkwardly. Put in an awkward stride near the 600m. inclined to lay outwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.
CARACRISTI – Over raced in the early stages. Laid inwards when under pressure in the home straight.
Race 8: CENTRAL QLD'S OLDEST SPORTING CLUB CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1400M
SHABOOH SHALAA – Bumped at the start by BOOM BOOM BELLA.
DETERMINATION – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Trainer R Vale was fined $100.00 under the provisions of AR106(1) for presenting the gelding without the declared winkers.
BIG SHOOTER – Raced wide throughout. Inclined to lay inwards rounding the home turn.
MOISSANITE – When questioned in relation to his vigour over the concluding stages jockey A Sewell stated that his mount failed to handle the heavy going and had started to compound over the concluding stages. Whist jockey Sewell’s actions had no bearing on any prizemoney, stewards reminded him of his obligations to ensure he rides his mount out to endeavour to finish in the best possible finishing position.
SMOKIN' DE QUO – Laid outwards when under pressure over the concluding stages.
BOOM BOOM BELLA – Began awkwardly bumping SHABOOH SHALAA. Inclined to lay out over the concluding stages. When question in relation to the seemingly improved performance trainer L Peterson stated that the mare had been working well in the lead up to today’s event and were inspecting an improvement however was pleasantly surprised with such an improvement.
