SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Thangool 14/9/24 – Race 2: GORDON KRAFFT MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 800m

Stewards have concluded an inquiry, after considering all evidence it was established that EXTREMAARTY (apprentice J Devine) had commenced to raced keenly near the 300m and improved into restricted room to the inside of BETTER RUSH (Jockey H Richardson) and had to be restrained and shit outwards across the heels of that runner and lost ground as a result. As the incident could not be attributed to any runner other than the mannerisms of EXTREEMARTY stewards took no further action and reported the incident.

Stewards approved overweights as per the race day summary.

GENERAL

As jockey J Stanley was not riding at today’s meeting due to injury at the Ipswich race meeting on the 17th of July, rider replacements were approved as per the race day summary.

Trainer T Chambers was reprimanded under LR36(6)(a) for failing to scratch the dual accepted REDNA out of one of the races by the prescribed time. Stewards were mindful that this is Ms Chambers’ first breach under this rule.

As jockey R Silvera Olivera (illness) was indisposed after being examined by the on-course QAS officers, rider replacements were made as per the steward’s race day summary. Jockey Silvera Olivera was advised that he would require a medical clearance prior to resuming race riding.

RACE 1: TAB CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1600M

ULTIMATE OUTCOME – Began awkwardly making contact with the inside barrier partition and as a result was slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages. Apprentice C Collis pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 9 times prior to the 100m, 14 times in total. Apprentice Collis’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days with the suspension to commence midnight 26th July 2025 and to conclude midnight 2nd August 2025. In determining penalty, stewards took into account the QRIC whip penalty guidelines. Apprentice Collis was advised of his rights to appeal.

STREET GLORY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

MARAVILLAS – Bounded on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages.

MAGIC GAME – Stood flat footed as the start was effected and as a result was slow to begin. Commenced to over race in the early and middle stages and was restrained by its rider on a number of occasions. Shifted wider near the 800m to improve. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted during the middle stages, in particular electing to restrain his mount further in the rear of the field, apprentice B Wheeler stated that his instructions were to improve wider during the middle stages to obtain a position closer to speed, consistent with its previous starts. Apprentice Wheeler added that when attempting to make his move, his mount commenced to race keenly proving difficult to ease in order to angle into a run to his outside. Apprentice Wheeler further added that after restraining he then realized that the tempo of the race was quicker than anticipated, therefore he allowed his mount to travel where comfortable and was ultimately able to shift wider near the 800m in an attempt to improve. Apprentice Wheeler further stated that despite having clear ground from the 800m, due to the one-paced nature of MAGIC GAME the mare took some time to gain momentum and finished the race off relatively well over the final 600m. When considering the explanation provided by apprentice Wheeler, the circumstances of the race and the tempo throughout, stewards could not be satisfied that the decisions made were totally unreasonable in the circumstance, however, intend to examine all betting relative to the race.

BO BO BEWARE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

BOOM BOOM BELLA – Raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned in relation to the seemingly improved performance, trainer L Petersen stated that in her opinion the addition of blinkers proved beneficial as BOOM BOOM BELLA was able to settle in a comfortable position due to the fast tempo set in today’s event. Trainer Petersen added that BOOM BOOM BELLA had been working well in the lead up to today’s event and the stable was expecting the seemingly forward showing in comparison to the mare’s recent starts

Jockey Cormack further stated that considering the step up in distance and younger, less experienced runners, he allowed his mount to roll forward to avoid any possible trouble and travel were comfortable. Stewards noted the comments. Trainer J McConachy advised stewards that it would be the intention of the stable for EL FORTRESS to be sent for a spell.

JICULSAR SIZZLE – Shifted outwards on jumping, bumping SECRET BOOM shortly after the start. At inquiry, apprentice Willis stated that she had borrowed another rider’s saddle for this race and was unaware that the saddle did not have any irons attached. Apprentice Willis further stated that as soon as she was aware of the mistake, she had notified the clerk of the scales, and the saddle was ordered to be brought back to weighing out area where apprentice Willis re-weighed with all correct gear. After taking into consideration all evidence and similar precedents, stewards reprimanded apprentice Willis under the provisions of AR184(b)(iii) for failing to include irons to her saddle when weighing out.

DIAMOND MONEY – Jockey A Sewell was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip on consecutive strides.

SNAZZY SNITZEL – Was declared a late scratching at 2:05pm due to no suitable available rider. Circumstances surrounding the riding engagements for SNAZZY SNITZEL are as follows. Originally declared rider J Stanley was injured and replaced by jockey S Cormack, jockey Cormack then identified that he would have difficulty making his return flight to Brisbane and therefore he was then replaced by apprentice B Wheeler. When accepting the ride apprentice Wheeler was at the airport about to board his flight and upon arrival on course and having the opportunity to research, assess the form and view replays of SNAZZY SNITZEL, made the application to stewards to withdraw his services. Stewards acceded to this request on the basis that a suitable replacement rider could be obtained and as a result, jockey R Silvera Olivera was engaged.
